If you want a more accurate count based on how many players are actually in matches and not just idling in the garage, use http://hawken.herokuapp.com/. That keeps track of all the servers currently being used and has a total player count right at the top. Steam counts based on how many people have the game open and running, and not based on whether or not they're in a match. In fact, my Steam hour count is about double my in-match game time, thanks to waiting in the garage or lobbies.

Steam is show only 400 players, is it real?
