I would guess that Josh still has some involvement with RLD beyond just Hawken, and APB did just get a PS4 port.

 

With that said I think HWK would probably port well to PS4. Better than pretty much any FPS game really. 

 

(That is, of course, assuming this pic isn't secretly from a previous GDC event to cover the fact that josh is ded)

signs of a rumor of mobile game hawken- wouldnt that be a good thing with the current slant towards the mobile gaming niche? i mean this dev team is obviously not kitted out to develop that but it was always an interesting concept considering what ive seen of certain mobile game shooters (lets just call it shooters, not arena, not first person, not third person, we dont know which way such a game would lean ANYWAY)

 

somebody, please, hurry up and yank the player base out of some other game on the net so we can get on with some in-depth large scale hawken already

I'm not a game developer so I don't really have a reason to attend GDC. I met up with Josh because GDC was being held ~3 blocks from my company's office. Also, I'm glad I didn't go, cause I would have probably had to leave to deal with the recent problems.

Unreal Engine makes it a bit easier to port to other platforms iirc, so this game ending up on a console platform wouldn't surprise me.

 

I'm probably overestimating how talented Reloaded's Unreal Engine programmer(s) is/are (I do hope I'm wrong), and I'm also pointing this out in a best case scenario: perhaps the UE engine programmer has already addressed some of the long-standing issues through a full 64-bit, ready-to-deploy, client patch. If so, then the whole dev team might be looking at a port that could coincide with a major overhaul in the form of a content/balance patch. Assuming this is also the case, then this means Reloaded is confident in bringing in more players. Alternatively, Reloaded could be focusing on the PC platform only for now, until momentum�achieved through updates�gives them an opportunity for said console port.

 

However, even if this best case scenario happens, what has to follow is developer consistency and transparency (i.e. communication) in order to erect a sense of active development, and in general, to stabilize the population. Eventually, a new map and a new mech will no longer satisfy those with even the strongest of appetite for Hawken�if they remain silent until another update goes live. On the other hand though, it's been quite some time since new content has been released, so there is really no telling what's going to happen after such a content patch gets pushed to the live branch. The game's stagnation in updates could have deepened the already bleeding wound; it may take aggressive promotion to encourage previous pilots to try the game again.

 

In the beginning of Reloaded's acquisition of the Hawken IP (early 2015), when the developer team consisted only 3-4 people, capnjosh had launched numerous data gathering projects to grasp and understand this game through sheer statistics, analysis and community vote. After a while, he stopped, and the developer team grew by quite a bit (our community manager specifies 15 individuals as of recent). I'd guess half of those are technical artists. Take that information any way you want, but what that tells me is with that developer team of 15�and most of the prerequisites already completed for correctly launching the game into stable from beta, we will probably see one hell of a patch soon_^�.

 

I could be wrong on some of these points though, such as UE portability and the estimation of how much of an impact a new update brings to our player base.
