^I definitely agree with you on all points. And I am incorrect about the ability to customize weapons which is extremely disappointing. The mech I saw is a early release mech for buying the founders bundle. I am still hopeful and not 100% unhappy with the build because I like the way the mech progression works and enjoy the grind.
I should have used the "pay to not grind" term because it is most certainly not the typical "pay to win" scenario as seen in the Old Republic and other MMO games. I will agree that some mechs feel somewhat unbalanced in comparison to others; For example the aforementioned early release mech with twin seekers creates a huge teetering effect on which ever team its on. That to me is not ok because it makes the game much less enjoyable; even if I were to use it there would be a lack enjoyment simply because I enjoy a challenge and plowing through enemies that can barely fight back isn't a fun way to play a tactical shooter.
Despite the lack of customization I can understand why it is so limited at this point. For a lot of reasons it has to be at the beginning simply because a port can introduce a great deal of new bugs that never existed in the pc version along with the pre-existing bugs there; and limiting whats present to pure basics can ensure that the main features of the game are working correctly. If not the code isn't as cluttered as it would be in a full featured release meaning they will be able to effectively add all previous features in stable amounts and get them all working properly in tandem. I don't know if this is the goal, but I will presume it plays a part in the decisions made.
The upgrades also are only for the internals and simply make the shield, repair drops, etc. do more then the level one counter parts. While that's not necessarily a great deal better, and not a way to replace customization options; it is a decent way to give whats there some minor character progression.
All in all I still stand by what I said before and feel that in future updates we are likely to see customization options on later builds and a Hawken that more closely resembles the late pc version in most respects.
