^I definitely agree with you on all points. And I am incorrect about the ability to customize weapons which is extremely disappointing. The mech I saw is a early release mech for buying the founders bundle. I am still hopeful and not 100% unhappy with the build because I like the way the mech progression works and enjoy the grind.

I should have used the "pay to not grind" term because it is most certainly not the typical "pay to win" scenario as seen in the Old Republic and other MMO games. I will agree that some mechs feel somewhat unbalanced in comparison to others; For example the aforementioned early release mech with twin seekers creates a huge teetering effect on which ever team its on. That to me is not ok because it makes the game much less enjoyable; even if I were to use it there would be a lack enjoyment simply because I enjoy a challenge and plowing through enemies that can barely fight back isn't a fun way to play a tactical shooter.

Despite the lack of customization I can understand why it is so limited at this point. For a lot of reasons it has to be at the beginning simply because a port can introduce a great deal of new bugs that never existed in the pc version along with the pre-existing bugs there; and limiting whats present to pure basics can ensure that the main features of the game are working correctly. If not the code isn't as cluttered as it would be in a full featured release meaning they will be able to effectively add all previous features in stable amounts and get them all working properly in tandem. I don't know if this is the goal, but I will presume it plays a part in the decisions made.

The upgrades also are only for the internals and simply make the shield, repair drops, etc. do more then the level one counter parts. While that's not necessarily a great deal better, and not a way to replace customization options; it is a decent way to give whats there some minor character progression.

All in all I still stand by what I said before and feel that in future updates we are likely to see customization options on later builds and a Hawken that more closely resembles the late pc version in most respects.

I have been playing on the Xbox for a couple days and I don't understand this gripe fest. I am grade five on the recruit mech and it unlocks a basic customization for the mech body. It unlocks the weapons seen in the pc build. I have already seen the pay to win players in late mechs with rank five twin seekers on a light mech so I can clarify there is a small amount of customization options in the current build.

You're stating that youve reached rank 5 with Recruit and unlocked weapons seen in PC build, then in your later post (^) - "Im incorrect about customization".

So what are you really saying? You just said that, that you reached rank 5 recruit and unlocked the primary alternative weapon choice because you have done that on PC and thought it would be the same on XB1, or you really DID unlock this option on the console?

If so...Im going to put this game off for a while. Playing it without reward systems, customization options for the most important thing (armament) in game and the matchmaking. And the devs could at least tell us what theyre planning (when is the overhaul or update gonna be?) because waiting for something to be dissappointed over when it releases is just a shot in the knee.

Reloaded gave us bullets and said "here, throw it at them". Im not expecting a MechWarrior level game but this is just pooping in your own nest.

AC Customisation is MASSIVELY more intricate than Hawken's has ever been.

I'll just use the example you picked up, from the 5th-gen games (ACV and Verdict Day), which are comparatively simplistic as the series goes.

Hawken: Every machine has precisely 1 primary weapon, no more, no less, and precisely 1 secondary weapon, no more, no less. Mechs can also equip a limited number of equipment items which can act as support for weapons (but rarely as weapons in their own right). Weapons available are limited by the chassis selected, with "legacy" Mechs having up to 3 primary weapons available and rarely (if ever) get to change their secondary.

Armored Core: Most machines have the ability to equip 1 weapon in each hand, and 1 backup weapon for each in that arm's "bay" slot. Ultimate Weapons mount on the machine's back and lock both bay slots, while weapon arms have a built-in heavy weapon in place of their bay slots. Heavy weapons can't be swapped out (except when fitted on weapon arms) and have to be discarded before the bay weapon can be used. Also, other than tanks, ACs need to lock themselves into place in "ready position" when firing heavy weapons. Shoulder units can provide support systems and assistance weapons like Hawken's equipment, but some shoulder units are capable weapons in their own right.

Hawken: Every mech has fixed health value, fixed movement speed, fixed fuel capacity, and the ability to equip internals which can adjust some of these stats.

AC: Health or "AP" needs to be balanced against 3 types of defense providing damage resistance against different weapon types, and every frame part provides different amounts of AP and each defense type. The legs provide the largest amount of protection in every regard, but defenses are always heavily biased toward one type, necessitating the core, arms and legs to help cover the other defenses. The core provides a fairly significant boost to both AP and defense values, with arms providing much less, and the head typically only allows for minor tweaks to the final values. The closest equivalent to fuel is energy. Generators have different capabilities in terms of weight, energy capacity (max "fuel") and output. Every single part has an energy consumption rating which subtracts from the output to determine the final recharge rate. Boosters have a passive consumption rating, and also drain a certain amount of energy either constantly when using "glide boost" (for constant high-speed movement) or in chunks with "high boosts" (dodging). Unlike Hawken, certain weapons also deplete energy (so it acts as a hybrid fuel/heat gauge for machines using such weapons, while other weapons are limited only by ammo). Movement speed is not affected only by the booster, either. Legs have a significant effect on movement speed as well as each type providing different alterations to how movement works, and the head provides a fairly noticable modifier to movement speed as well. Alongside these, the core applies modifiers to booster energy use and the duration of high boosts. Also, every single part has a "weight" value which is used in speed calculations, making two ACs with identical frames and boosters move at different speeds based on the weight of their weapons and internals.

And if you want to look at something ACTUALLY complex, there's way more to worry about in the 2nd- and 3rd-gen games, which are in many places still more popular than the newest games.

*sigh* oblivion's right. it feels like customisation's been gimped to hell on PS4, and from a cynical viewpoint, it feels like this was intentional to encourage more real-money purchases (i.e weapon and internal loads-outs locked to specific chassis/ having to buy an entirely new mech to get something with both TOW and a Point-D ect..

The reason us console players are the most up set is do to us getting to items and not being able to equip them

I feel like this is 100% correct. Half the mechs have rank 3 or rank 6 weapons equipped already. If they did let us unlock weapons they would have to go back and redo all the weapon selections. Some mechs like Vanguard have new weapons those mechs have never seen before. All form the sake of locking weapon combinations to specific mechs to force you to buy new mechs.

I think once this new system hits PC it will just further kill the game. New players that come after the update will see weapon combinations they will never get and drive them away.

As a long time Hawken player on pc I have some things to add.

4 hours, 27 minutes play time.

I don't mean to pry, or condemn you, or anything, but are you a forum smurf of another player?  We've seen an influx of forum smurfs across all Hawken social platforms in order to propagate an opinion, according to some of the moderators on these forums, so I just want to ask for clarity and curiosity.  But if you are indeed a long time PC player with 4.5 hours of playtime I won't push any further.

I talked a friend of mine into downloading this on his Xbox, he played it for a little over a hour. He was trying to give it a honest effort because I talked up the game so much. By the time it was all said and done, he thought I had No taste when it comes to video games. He thought it was awful and his complaints are as follows.

1. Dated Graphics, his exact words was "Looks like I'm watching "The Transformers" Saturday morning cartoon show"

2. Clunky controls, his exact words was "the game is not very well controlled with a controller like other FPS games on console".

3. Mech customization, this part he was pretty upset about and rightfully should be. I had talked up how cool it is to customize the mechs to your own play style and low and behold I looked like I didn't know what I was talking about.

Later that day I convinced him that the garbage he was playing on Xbox is not Hawken. We went over to my house and I fired up the Dual 4-way crossfire Beasts and within 30 minutes, he was hooked!

He comes over to play all the time now, rather then play it on his own console. That in of itself says a lot.

For the sake of the game, I hope someone High Up in Reloaded realizes they made a mistake and fix it.

This is not what Hawken was suppose to be and the console gamers are uninstalling it as fast as new console users are installing it.

I would love to say I'm surprised by your friends reaction but I'm not. Hawken has always been about movement and well consoles unfortunately automatically limit movement just based on design as opposed to PC. When it comes to design of the Mechs well..that's on the devs, old and new. I've and many others have said along time ago that we wished hawken had alittle more "slicker" or "sharper"  style Mechs than the "blocky" style but that's just what we have to live with I guess. As for mech customization for looks, well until Reloaded makes more designs so you can change the chassis freely without paying anything, well they need money. So basically it's a catch 22 since they need money to design more chassis and make them free but people aren't giving them money to do that..sort off.

Hold on to the things you care about most, even if others see it as insignificant..If you can't be true to yourself, are you really living?
