here is a simple idea.....

Since most of the new mechs are already kinda present IN game... in parts

Why dont the devs... make the TEST DRIVE mechs, the new mechs...

this would allow players to test them, and give feedback, the devs could then adjust test drive internals etc etc...

i think since early 2017 is gone....

maybe this would allow the players on PC to test the new mechs and make INFORMED decisions and feedbacks on the balancing of these new monstrosities for the PC playerbase

of cause these test drives would NOT be for sale as the standard ones are...

but having the 5 mechs on test drive for a few weeks (or however long it actually is) could provide some good data for devs as well as give players a reason to play

The changes are not present or hooked up in the live PC game, and in many cases the mechs contain new mechanics that we cannot change on the server.

 I see,

i mean i do understand that, i was merely referring to the physical 3d models....

I don't like this.

not surprised.....

How would allowing access to simply the 3D models benefit game mechanic balance and feedback? I'm a little confused.

I'm going to reword that a bit to see if it makes any sense, or is any more plausible.

Not beta test, but balance test.
Assuming that RLD is set on releasing a new mech, its mechanics can be patched into the game and then the mech set as test drive only? This assumes that if the parts and mechanics are in the game, RLD can hotfix or liveupdate the database for the mech without a further big patch.

...either exclude it from the store or make the prices all 99,999,999,999HC or something (I doubt anyone has 99 billion HC). Then before anyone can purchase it, everyone gets to figure out if it is viable, and RLD can tweak the stats based on player feedback. Once people are happy with the balance then the price gets set to 9000, etc

As an extension, perhaps any mech that is due to undergo a major overhaul/rebalance gets put in testdrive while it happens? (like as a trial only non-buyable renamed version). Then you could try out eg: a traditional Rocketeer, then try it again as a proposed rebalanced version, back to back. Maybe they could limit it to bots-TDM-only for a week, then increase it to also human TDM after a round of weapon/ability stats changes, etc.

I might be underestimating the complexity of implementing, but would the system solve any perceived community issues around new/changed mechs if it was to be implemented? Secondly, is it a problem that really needs to be solved other than serving out some fresh HTFU?

Cheers,

i was saying the 3d models are already in game...

the abilities however are not,

what i was implying is to let players test drive the new mechs and give feedback on balancing them

the models might be but the weapon combinations aren't. Plus there are straight up new weapons on console that aren't in PC. It would require a patch afaik.

You underestimate this community.

Then it would be a patch, not beta testing. Any testing of the content to be released should be done prior to any patch because the patch should coincide with the relaunch.  If the relaunch were just merely a "hey guys come play this broken version of hawken help us pls" it wouldn't do much for player retention. The player number increases that usually come with game patches would not help in this case.

That's why i called mine a balance test, and mentioned that the patch would have to put mechanics in place for it.

There are always people who complain when mechs get released or changed that the community should have been consulted more. I'm not sure it would prevent that, despite the development effort.
