ILLAL

-One of six planets that orbits Kepler-11

-About 2,000 light years from Earth

-Habitable surface area is 39062 square kilometers or 24271.85 square miles

-Indigenous atmosphere poisonous to humans, unconscious in 10 minutes and death within an hour

-Year 2296 Illal terraformed for human colonization

-150,000 colonists from Illal Development Initiative

-Home to over 25 colonies and 9 MPCs

-Crion Incident occurs May 3rd, 2361

-1/3rd of Illal covered in Giga-Structure (Illal Flora)

-5 years after incident Giga-Structure initially covers 16.48% of Illal’s habitable surface area at 6437.4 square kilometers or 4000 square miles

-Hawken Virus / Nano-necrosis leads to hand amputation in 2 weeks, arm amputation in 6 weeks

GIGA-STRUCTURE

The scientific name given to the vast inorganic shell left in the wake of the Hawken Nanovirus.

HAWKEN VIRUS

The virus is named after Dr. James Hawken primarily because it was his nanotech research project, codenamed OHMU, that was in development at Crion’s Typhus facility when the incident occurred, destroying Praxis Valley and releasing the nanovirus. The mechanics and machinations of the cataclysmic virus are a mystery to almost everyone.

ILLAL DEVELOPMENT INTITIATIVE

The UTA passed the controversial and historic IDI Act in 2296, allowing a conglomerate of MPC’s to sponsor the terraforming and colonization of Illal in exchange for special business-related privileges and exemptions.

MULTI-PLANETARY CORPORATIONS

CRION SOLUTIONS

Part of the MPC conglomerate that sponsored the terraforming of Illal, Crion Solutions is a technology-oriented MPC that focuses on scientific research and development over manufacturing.

NAUTILUS CORP

Update in progress.

OVEK

Update in progress.

PARAGON

Update in progress.

PROSK

This MPC is the largest blue-collar employer on Illal. Prosk is a mass-market manufacturer known for its large workforce producing vast quantities of low-cost/low-quality product.

RYGEL

Update in progress.

SENTIUM

A benchmark, luxury-goods MPC. A brand known throughout the galaxy for exemplary quality and exorbitant costs. Their strict and efficient Illal factories use a largely automated workforce, managed by personnel of the highest qualifications.

ORGANIZATIONS

TERRAN HYPER-REPUBLIC

The collective term given to the extended human civilization now spread out across a vast range of star systems, colonizing a countless variety of planets and moons.

UNITED TERRAN AUTHORITY (UTA)

The pan-galactic government of the Terran Hyper-Republic. The UTA stations embassies, officials, and significant peacekeeping forces on all their colonies to enforce consistent intergalactic law (including taxation). However, as a result of the IDI Act, their presence on Illal is nominal (and later non-existent following the orbital quarantine enacted in response to the unstoppable spread of the Giga-Structure).

NOTABLE PERSONS

HAWKEN, JAMES

A brilliant inventor responsible for both numerous scientific advances as well as the Hawken Virus that plagues Illal. Hawken’s capacity for three-dimensional logic, reasoning, and deduction far surpassed that of his peers along with his ability to positively influence any project’s direction and design.

HAWKEN, JAYD

Update in progress.

HAWKEN, OLIPHIA

A pioneer in a wide range of technological research fields. Working as a research assistant for Prosk since 2332, she has contributed to numerous industry-changing scientific breakthroughs including the creation of Nano-Cavorite along with other radical advances in nanogenetics, cryogenics, and artificial intelligence.

LAZLO, RION

Update in progress.

LOCATIONS

ANDROMEDA

The largest (and most densely populated) megacity on Illal. Home to Prosk’s corporate HQ, Andromeda is a bustling and colorful metropolis, with high poverty and unemployment rates.

ASHIHAN FORESTS

Update in progress.

BANKSON HALL

Update in progress.

KOBALT

The smallest of the three megacities on Illal. Scarcely populated and more industrial. Home to Crion Solutions HQ.

PRAXIS VALLEY

Similar to 21st-century’s San Jose-based Silicon Valley. Praxis Valley is home to Crion’s most advanced research facility, Typhus. Two-thirds of the valley was obliterated in the initial blast that released the Hawken Virus.

TITAN

The second biggest megacity on Illal. Home to social elite, and the best architecture, arts, and culture Illal has to offer. Sentium’s HQ, including the two intertwining towers of the iconic Bankson Hall, is located here.

TYPHUS

Cutting edge, 132,000ft2 Crion research facility. When Dr. James Hawken defected from Prosk to Crion he relocated his work here. The facility is infamous for being the epicenter of the “Crion Incident.”

GLOSSARY

CAVORITE

A rare ore that possesses inherent gravity-defying properties. When smelted into other materials the overall weight of the resulting alloy is significantly decreased.

CSD

Acronym for “Corporate Security Division.”  Every MPC has one. Their role is closer to that of an intelligence agency (like the CIA or MI6) than traditional physical and intellectual corporate protection.

MPC

Acronym for Multi-Planetary Corporation. Colossal companies with subsidiaries and business spread across the Hyper-Republic.

MECH-OPS

The term for a team of special force mech pilots. First employed on Illal during the Cavorite Conflict.

OHMU

The working codename for an ambitious nanotech project that Dr. James Hawken was developing prior to the Crion Incident. OHMU’s objective was never disclosed.

PATRON

Citizens (of age) on Illal must legally become patrons. This involves either investing a sizeable amount of money in or being employed by an MPC.

PQR

Acronym for Public Quarterly Reports, where each MPC announces its most recent earnings, market share, and overall fiscal stability. PQRs greatly affect the scrip rate of each MPC and therefore the overall assets of its patrons.

SCRAPLAND

The colloquial term for Praxis Valley and any additional area since consumed entirely by the Giga-Structure.

SCRIP

Illal’s dominant currency, tied to valuation of its associated MPC. Scrip rates fluctuate daily and are greatly influenced by PQRs.

TERRAFORMING

Literally, the “Earth-shaping” of a planet, moon, or other body. The process of deliberately modifying a body’s atmosphere, temperature, surface topography, or ecology to be similar to those of Earth, in order to make it habitable by terrestrial organisms.

VERMIN

Collective term used for the planet’s lower animal forms. Reviled by the population, they ironically prove valuable when they evolve to feed off the Giga-Structure.

TECHNOLOGY

ATMOSPHERIC GENERATORS

Environment processors that create and sustain a human-habitable artificial atmosphere (i.e., a replica of Earth’s ideal Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, and Thermosphere) of variable sizes. Typically one facility is needed per 1000 square miles.

AXE

A colloquial term for a weaponized mech. What the initials are actually an acronym for is debated among pilots.

BATTLESHIPS

Relatively slow-moving, heavily-armored air-to-ground carrier/gunships used by MPC’s to deploy and support mechs in major land-based battles.

HV LOADERS

SKU for Heavy Loaders. These open mechanized exoskeletons mimic the anthropomorphic movements of their operators but greatly amplify their strength. They are generally used for non-military purposes such as construction work or emergency services. They are the flagship product of Prosk’s and Sentium’s manufacturing division.

MECH

A large, typically bipedal, heavily armored, mechanized anthropomorphic tank. Like its precursor, the HV Loader, mechs are designed to imitate the pilot’s human movements on a larger-than-life scale in battle.

MEGA-CARRIERS

The air-bound equivalent of a 21st-century aircraft carrier. Mega-Carriers are essentially floating mini-cities used by MPCs to deploy squadrons of battleships to the ever-changing battlefield.

NANOBOTS

Individual machines created on a sub microscopic scale (dimensions of a few nanometers or less) that can be programmed for a wide variety of uses in medical, technological, and engineering fields.

NANOCAVORITE

A more efficient refinement of Cavorite (created by Dr. James Hawken and patented by Prosk) that boasts a greater weight-to-ore anti-gravity ratio than Sentium’s equivalent alloy.

NANOVIRUS

Nanobots programmed to act collectively as a virus, consuming all matter in its path and reconfiguring its molecular structure to replicate and spread.

SYNTHETIC NANOCAVORITE (SCV)

Created by Dr. James Hawken to offset the diminishing supply of Cavorite, Synthetic Nanocavorite is an artificially replicable alloy that uses nanobots to recreate Cavorite’s remarkable anti-gravity properties.

VITROLIUM

This incredibly potent energy source is refined from the waste matter of the planet’s indigenous vermin populace, whose rapidly evolving digestive systems uniquely enable them to consume the Giga-Structure.

Didn't have to Mags, it's not that big of a deal. XD  I liked all the stuff we put together in the old HUB, I need to rewrite it first with K_O to work out the kinks from the old version of the Vitrolium theory.

I've been following Hawken since it's revival. Just got around to getting onto the new forums. On the old forums I collected all of the data I could find in the Melee comics. I'll repost that information here for those interested.

Hawken, Vol.2: Melee

Issue #1: 20 SECONDS

Pilot: Draden J. Lusk

A G5 Rank-Limited Prosk pilot (callsign “Nardine”) in the “Field Survey/High Incident” department who rose to fame after earning 15 unassisted kills in Operation ABSYNTHIA. Lusk was killed in action during Operation DISGAIA. His mech sustained heavy damage at the beginning of the battle, the shock of which also mortally injured Lusk. He was able to defeat all four of his opponents within twenty seconds due to a rush delivered from an implant that released medicine internally for the pilot's chronic asthma before eventually dying from the injury sustained in the initial attack. He piloted a mech with an unknown weapon configuration and the Res chassis.

Issue #2: FRIENDLY FIRE

Pilot: Lance Armourstrong

A G3-Restricted rank Prosk pilot (callsign “Loverboy”) in the “Field Survey/High Incident” department. Lance is a former rock star, the ex front-man to band “King Lance” before signing on with Prosk Industry combat service. He received the “Georgio Femur Quicksilver Medal for Extraordinary Diligence” for his work in Operation NEUTROLA in which he achieved twelve kills in under three minutes. Lance used performance enhancing drugs while in combat and was noted for reckless behavior and disregard for his teammates. Because of this his fellow squad mates conspire to kill him and make an agreement with Cooperate Prosk so that his death will go unnoticed. Prior to Operation GRAZE SHALE his performance enhancing drugs are secretly swapped out for drugs that disorientate him on the battlefield and a fellow pilot Lexi retires Lance via friendly fire in his state of confusion during the combat. Lance piloted a custom A-class, the Charge chassis, with a snake, flames, and Ying-Yang painted on the body, wielding dual Vulcans.

Pilot: Lexi

A Prosk pilot assigned to the same squad as Lance during Operation GRAZE SHALE. Her rank and callsign are unknown. She is a key member in the plot to kill Lance. Prior to the battle she meets Lance in a club and seduces him using the opportunity to swap his drugs. Lance is unaware that she is even a pilot until she reveals herself before the battle. On the battlefield she delivers the final blow to his mech as revenge for all of the teammates that died due to his arrogance. She pilots an A-class with the Boot chassis and unknown weapon configuration.

Pilot: Curtis K. Tolomoy

A member of Lances team, see Issue #5 for more information.

Issue #3: LAST CALL

Locations: MIDLAND EXCAVATION OUTPOST 14-480, ILLAL.

A dusty canyon like outpost with a sushi bar where locals gather to get the news and grab a drink. This area is contested grounds between Prosk and Sentium.

Lore: Illalian conspiracy theorists believe that the Cavorite Conflicts where just a cover up for an actual war over the much more valuable resource, Vitrolium, since synthetic cavorite is used in mech design there would be little need to battle over natural cavorite. Some even deny that natural cavorite even exists.

Pilot: Jean-Etienne Devauseu

A G5-Privileged Prosk pilot (callsign “HAVOK”) and member of the “Clandestine Insertion” department. He is considered by many to be Prosk's top pilot. He is decorated with numerous combat accolades and has a service career of over 15 years. HAVOK is known to have a mysterious and legendary persona due to his distance from co-workers and preference for solo missions. Even within Prosk he is a shadowy figure and what is fact and what is myth when it comes to this pilot is often hard to tell. His face may be disfigured from a Napalm attack during a battle with Sentium forces but no one has ever lived to see his face. He has 11 awards for selfless sacrifice in battle. He engages top tier Sentium pilot “PROTO GOD” during Operation SINK HOLE, Both pilots, equally matched, fight and defeat one another in a stalemate off radar. Both are considered KIA but neither their bodies nor mechs were ever recovered. He piloted an Infiltrator with a custom Boot chassis painted with the Nemesis skull.

Pilot: Name Unknown

A top level Sentium pilot with the callsign “PROTO GOD”. He is known for defeating famed Prosk pilot “LUCIDITY”. He has been in service since the Cavorite Conflicts 40 years ago and is speculated to be quite old. He engages top tier Prosk pilot “HAVOK” during Operation SINK HOLE. Both pilots ,equally matched, fight and defeat one another in a stalemate off radar in an underground cave. Both are considered KIA but neither their bodies nor mechs were ever recovered. He piloted a Rocketeer with a custom Domoff chassis painted with the Shark design.

Pilot: Name Unknown

A Prosk pilot under the callsign “LUCIDITY”. He is famed for having defeated high ranking Sentium pilot “CARPE DIEM”.

Issue #4: LAPSE

Location: Crion Contested Territory, 80KM NE of Praxis Valley.

What used to be terraformed farmlands, now a wasteland covered by the Giga-structure.

Pilot: Helen M. Mitchell

A G2 rank Sentium pilot who uses the callsign “ETHEL”. She is part of the “Tactical Survey/Reconnaissance” department. Helen became a pilot after incident #HECTOR-B41. The encroachment of the Giga-structure caused her to abandon her farm in Crion territory an enter combat duty as a way to support her son and husband who was injured during a Prosk attack on the farm during the incident. Helen was killed by Sentium forces after they suspected that she may have been attempting to return to her family and defect to Prosk. Her mech was a jury-rigged Reaper with Spree chassis salvaged from the Prosk attack on the farm.

Pilot: Name Unknown.

Helen's son, now and adult Prosk pilot with a grudge against Sentium for his mother's death. Rank, callsign, and mech are unknown.

Issue #5: GADGET

Pilot: Curtis K. Tolomoy

A G3 rank Sentium pilot (callsign “HESA”) in the “Insertion/Infantry” department. He quickly rose through the leader-boards, with high success in Operation #CHEMCEL-74-B12. He was celebrated in the media. This fame led to poor conduct and decision making outside of combat causing Sentium to administer frequent drug tests to try and keep him in check. After being kidnapped and rescued by his girlfriend, scientist Randalin Haden, he requested medication from Sentium to control his bad habits. He is currently still in service*. His mech is unknown but he has a unique blue/black tattoo kind of resembling a bird or the Hawken logo on his face and is bald.

*There is some inconsistency about this pilot. He is featured in Hawken Genesis' final chapter, Hawken Melee: Issue #2, and Issue #5. Melee issue #2 depicts him as a Prosk Pilot while his bio in Issue #5 clearly states he is a Sentium recruit.

Scientist: Randalin Mayra Haden

A freelance scientist and girlfriend to famous Sentium pilot “HESA”. She developed a small hand-held gadget that shoots an armor piercing bolt into the chassis of a mech causing the cockpit to explode from a surge of energy redirected from the engines. This would enable foot-soldiers to effectively destroy mechs. When she refuses to hand her technology over to Sentium officials they hold HESA hostage. Randalin outsmarts Sentium forces and defeats a Raider with a power loaded jury rigged for combat, thus rescuing HESA and causing him to re-evaluate his recklessness.

Pilot: Captain Vladnishakova

Leader if the Sentium task force in charge of securing the new gadget from Randalin. He is bald, wearing a futuristic monocle and has a crazy curled mustache. His force consists of two Raiders and numerous foot-soldiers. He is defeated in his Raider by Randalin in her power loader.

Additional Information

Lore: Not much lore other than Pilot bios can be found in the Melee comics since they are mostly about combat however one unique piece of info we can gather is the difference in naming conventions Sentium and Prosk have when referring to operations.

Sentium Operations use the following format: #CHEMCEL-74-B12 or #HECTOR-B41 while Prosk operations use simpler naming such as: Operation ABSYNTHIA or Operation NEUTROLA

In addition we gain some insight into the different departments within both Sentium and Prosk Forces.

Known Prosk Combat Departments:

Field Survey/High Incident

Clandestine Insertion

Known Sentium Combat Departments:

Tactical Survey/Reconnaissance

Insertion/Infantry

Ranking Conventions:

G+Number - Followed by permissions (Restricted, Limited, or Privileged)

Ex: G2-Limited.

Hey guys is all the info in the OP canon? As in is this from a comic/art book/dev interview or dev word-of-god on the old forums? I've read both Hawken melee and genesis and a lot of that stuff is unfamiliar to me.

If it turns out it's canon I'd love to incorporate it into the hawken wiki at one point, add more content to the lore and community sections.
