If you're like me and the whole permanent bloom/fog thing in modern games is burning your eyes and giving you a headache, then do this to remove these terrible features :

1) Go to C:Program Files (x86)MeteorEntertainmentHawkenInstalledHawkenFilesHawkenGameConfig (or wherever you installed the game)
2) Copy DefaultSystemSettings.ini and paste it somewhere safe :)
3) Open DefaultSystemSettings.ini with Notepad
4) Search for your graphical settings in this file. Either search for "LOW", "MEDIUM", or "HIGH". You're find the default settings for each graphics quality.

For example, for HIGH :

Quote

; HIGH
[SystemSettingsBucket3]
BasedOn=SystemSettings
StaticDecals=True
DynamicDecals=True
UnbatchedDecals=True
DecalCullDistanceScale=0.6
DynamicShadows=True
LightEnvironmentShadows=True
Motionblur=True
DepthOfField=True
AmbientOcclusion=True
Bloom=True
bAllowLightShafts=True
Distortion=True
DropParticleDistortion=False
LensFlares=True
AllowRadialBlur=True
bAllowSeparateTranslucency=False
bAllowPostprocessMLAA=True
bAllowHighQualityMaterials=True
SkeletalMeshLODBias=0
DetailMode=2
MaxDrawDistanceScale=1.0
MaxAnisotropy=4
MaxShadowResolution=1024
MaxWholeSceneDominantShadowResolution=1280
ScreenPercentage=100.000000
ShadowTexelsPerPixel=1.3
bAllowWholeSceneDominantShadows=True
bUseConservativeShadowBounds=False
bAllowFracturedDamage=True
FractureCullDistanceScale=1.0
; buckets used in gfx options (1-3) must NOT have this set
;TextureDetailLevel=2 ; 0-low,1-mid,2-high,3-ultra
bAllowImageGrain=True
ParticleLODBias=0

Now, you can set all these options to False :

Quote

Motionblur= False
DepthOfField=False
Bloom=False
bAllowImageGrain=False
Motionblur is the... blur when you move the camera.
DepthOfField is the fact that things far away are very blurry, like this : http://www.istockpho...iew.php_ID=7271
Bloom is intense light like this : http://gangles.ca/im...bloom-halo3.jpg
Image Grain is like seeing the game though a sandstorm.

Thank to the devs for allowing us to disable all these options!

You should actually be changing this file instead: (My) DocumentsMy GamesHawkenHawkenGameConfigHawkenSystemSettings.ini

If you change the default INI and mess up, you will either need to figure out how to fix it, get a clean copy of the INI file from someone else (or make a backup copy before you start modifying it), or uninstall and reinstall Hawken completely. Changing the INI file inside My Games does not have this same problem.

Keep in mind that tweaking your INI files is not supported by the devs. You're on your own if something messes up. Fortunately, the fix is easy: delete HawkenSystemSettings.ini and relaunch Hawken to get a default version of the file back.

So does editing your .ini file in the mygames folder have any difference from modifying the .ini file in the actual installation directory_ It seems kind of redundant that there are 2 of the same one...

Edit: Ah, I see, the .ini file in the system directory is the .ini that the game will default back to. whereas the one in mygames are the files that are modified by you when you change options in settings. Am I correct_

The default INI files are the template the game uses to create your user-specific files. Editing the default INI means it'll forever use that (until you uninstall/reinstall Hawken or an update rewrites the defaults). Editing the one in My Games is just your user preferences and can be replaced by defaults by just deleting the file and relaunching Hawken (where it will pull from the defaults).

It's much safer to leave the default INI files alone and edit the one that actually matters for your game preferences.

Bloom is useful for learning to judge how far your TOW has traveled.

I can confirm this doesnt work anymore.

Dont ask me why but everytime u change this file, the game sets everything back to default.
I have tryed with both files.

also bloom effects are turned off is u set settings to low
But i assume u want to use high settings without bloom_

You could set the file to read-only and prevent Hawken from messing with it. However, if that breaks Hawken, you'll want to set it back.

Note that patches will sometimes wipe out the INI files and replace them with defaults. That's normal, if inconvenient.

Yea i think the patch might also mess it up, i was trying to turn this off to get some FPS gain on my laptop.
But now im more like, fuzzy bunny it this aint worth changing settings like every time a patch comes out.

Nah i dont want to fiddle with stuff that breaks the game.
Thanks for the tips !

Normaly i use this for other games and it works fine, but sinds this is a online game im not sure......  I do hope they gonna give us more in-game settings in the future!

Most of the settings described in these guides and posts were present previously under the advanced settings in the game, but (and this is speculation) with the UI changes made for open beta, they didn't make it back in.  The devs have said they are going to be back in an Imminent patch. :)

(I don't mean to necro threads, I'm just almost always running behind.  My apologies)

There is a high pitch whine that isn't very loud, but if you have headphones on and the ears to hear it it gets quite annoying.  I tried tweaking some settings but with no success, does anyone know how to turn it off aswell_

Edit for clarity: the noise often goes away after you die when you are on the mech selection screen, but comes back once you load back into your mech.  It is some mech style noise to set the ambience.

There's currently no way to mute teammates while you're losing, no.

While I'm sure your response is just trying to be whitty, to make sure no misinformation is spread.  It is actually possible to mute people

Just by lowering the volume. I hear no one now. Pure bliss. Would be funny if they can hear me though.
Hoping for true Nvidia Surround support at release. Infractions and warnings are for children, therefore I'm not afraid.

I found a different way to remove bloom effects :)

Just use the graphic option, set it low
I have the rest on high

Result:  High ress sharp looking textures.  And low graphics.   ITS great!   also improves FPS ;)

have to admit that after playing PS2 with my HD radeon 4850 1 gb i dint had high hopes to get good fps here, man was a wrong this game is as smooth as butter on my almost 5 year old vid card running text on high graphic on low and never drop below 40 fps, mostly running 70 fps.

Game has solid dev's behind the scene that knows fps needs to run smooth to play good :)

I've tried OP's method, unfortunately, tinkering with ini file caused Hawken to crash right after loading main menu. :(

Too bad, I hate motion blur and grain effects.  :(
