SS atm is all about standing still as far as possible and mashing both mouse buttons. You really don't need anything else to succeed.

Way to play hawken in the most boring and unsatisfying way possible.

Because it was created before that subforum existed.

Reaper was mentioned before. Due to the recent armor nerf I think Reaper became very viable alternative to SS. Slug Reaper. Essentially it is a faster, more agile, slightly less armored SS with identical base damage and rate of fire (if we're talking Slug) and weaker but faster firing Secondary. KE-Sabot is ready on every 2nd Slug shot vs Sabot on every 3rd (that is if you are synchronizing them). Due to it's agility Reaper has better chances against A-calss, natural nemesis of SS. It's also much better suited for fast flanking which I find the most fun.

That said, Reaper is outclassed vs good Berserker or Infiltrator in the open, while being the most efficient peekaboo fighter.

Conclusion: I find slug reaper is more versatile and fun then slug ss, while using identical tactics.

I'm absolutely loving both mechs and I play them very similar. My SS has no ability to use which makes me sad but that slug sabot combo hitting a scout is fun to watch(I believe the gif of the cat falling in the tub sums it up) and the reaper ability is useless on a slug variant. The reaper is just the most annoying pain in the ass mech to use against the other team.

I think I've had entire teams come charging straight for me to kill my reaper off. This usually results in my team ambushing and slaughtering them. It just so rewarding playing the Reaper as a harasser mech slug/baby sabot volleys make me happy.

Yeah, the abilities on SS and Reaper are bleak comparing to other mechs. Power Shot on SS lasts long enough for only one shot and damage gain is insignificant. Almost no point in using it. Precision Overdrive on Reaper is useful for very long range scoping (which sucks otherwise), which I personally never do, it's boring. And mid-range unscoped fight. The last one can be quite handy but still this ability is very weak comparing to others.

In mid range I still scope, the only person I've had any trouble hitting in close range is some guy named Condom, even though I get hit markers scoped it does no damage(probably a latency thing) but unscoped I hit just fine. I find just a half second zoom out gives me the info I need on what my target is doing to be able to scope in and blast away.

Just as a side note, I can't seem to figure out wreckage at all. I am beyond awful at that map.

Agreed. Wreckage puts snipers in disadvantage. Line of sight is constantly broken by crooked narrow corridors at weird angles, there are almost no long range vantage points.
I usually play MA, staying on the outer edge, guarding S1 or S3, avoiding S2. Only going to S2 when team is there. But in DM and TDM it is CQC mayhem.

CQC SS:

My SS setup is
All movement upgrades
Slug
MG turret
Hologram (makes for epic lol's watching people spray away at your hologram while you pick them off.  Also, I like to look at my awesome skin)

Quickly dodge around corners and take the shots as you can.  You'll basically need to hit 100% of your shots to win, but, nobody said SS was easy.  You'll get used to it.

Why should you learn to CQC SS_  Because 90% of the game is CQC, and even if you're at some "pro sniper spot yo", it doesn't take any more than a mediocre player to get up to you and take you out.  You will be CQC eventually.  This is especially true in Siege mode.  Every player not on the point is essentially worthless to the team.

Obviously in TDM you can set up somewhere to snipe, just know you'll need to CQC someone eventually once they find you, which won't take long.

Missile:  While you don't necessarily need your entire team on point, you're still not very beneficial to your team if you aren't able to CQC and help out when needed.

TBH, snipers that sit in the back and just snipe are the last thing I worry about while playing.

EDIT:  You'll need to quick scope to CQC.  You can try w/o, but like I said before, you need to hit 100% to be successful.  If you're not scoped, your sabot isn't going to hit 100%.

EDIT 2:  CQC SS is what I do 99% of the time.

EDIT 3:  You need to put yourself into fuzzy bunny situations or you'll never get better.  I'll frequently take on 3v1 just for practice.  It will increase your situational awareness and reaction time if you practice that.  Makes a 1v1 a cakewalk.

Any idea what the "movement upgrades" he's referring to are_

Legend has it that there used to be a mech tuning system. A stat tree of sorts. It is no more.

It still exists, but in the background. The devs set the tuning options for each mech which makes the game much easier to balance.

To be honest you aren't missing out on much since each mech had a "best" easy to tune it so everyone used the same tuning options anyways.

So really nothing has changed.

I also play on "PoundSignYoloSwag" (Assault/G2 Assault) and "FriendshipIsMagic" (Rocketeer) But haven't been able to add them to my Sig yet due to computer problems.
