I don't know, I don't see the hellfire as an reliable secondary, but I don't hate it.

I'm surprised this thread is still going.

The problem with the Hellfire is that it doesn't gain anything from the sacrifices it made. Every other secondary has some sort of specialty that gives you a reason to use it instead of the TOW.
  • The TOW is the catch-all; highest burst (minus Power Shot Sabot), good at all ranges, and it has splash.
  • The GL has a bit less range, but you can bounce it off of walls and it has a higher DPS/refire rate.
  • The Sabot has no splash option, but it's hit-scan (read: longest range secondary) and comes with a scope.
  • The K.E. is a mid-range equivalent to the grandfather Sabot with lower damage, but higher refire rate and better unscoped accuracy to compensate.

Meanwhile, the Hellfire has:
  • no splash or detonation option
  • the worst accuracy out of all secondary weapons
  • must lock-on for consistency outside of point-blank range
  • the lock-on function wastes time and is telegraphed on a mechanical (HUD) level
...for a little more damage than a TOW.


WHAT A DEAL!

Im quite a fan of the hellfire, i do wish the lock on time was shorter though.

Something definitely changed with the patch in regard to the locking mechanism.  I wonder if it could be due to me switching to the experimental reticle.

Totally agree, I also have the experimental reticle on, not sure if it is the issue but it was way harder to grab a lock on any target.
It need more test because I also had a very bad ping (settings reset, didn't check I was on a US server).

I was thinking the same, today I was gonna try turning it off but hadn't the chance to loing due to server issues.

The Hellfires should be FIXED before any changes are done to them. As of right now, 3/4 shots will not have the second volley lock. A new cool bug that I've encountered is one where the missiles will launch, scatter, and then just explode immediately. Bleh.


I think it is 1000's of money. IT IS 1000,s OF MONEY!!!.

A Developer just posted on a thread in general that there was a back end bug introduced in the reaper patch that caused locking problems and that they are currently fixing it.  Should be back to pee patch status tonight.

Which btw could still use some love.

I play a rocketeer and I think Hellfires are the coolest secondary in the game. I have had more fun with hellfires than any weapon in the game bar the godly HEAT canon.

It seems like a patience weapon to me. In CQC you have to wait till your opponent makes a mistake aka jumps/fail dogde, you also have to lead your shots (the opposite of mid to long range, where you bend it around corners). If you're in a bruiser, you have a vulcan enough said. Only downside of a bruiser is that it is really hard to keep on the offensive. But when it comes to suppression and CQC you're badass.

In Mid Range combat Helfire is dominant. With bending around corners, you can also use it like a TOW and predict when people come out of cover. I find it is quite accurate for that. You would be supprised at the number of players that come out of cover as soon as thier dodge comes of CD. Also no one expects Hellfires to be used like a TOW. And people don't rate Brusiers or Rocketeers, nor should they. It does however lead them to be over zealous and easy kills just come to you, no need to chase.

In long range its the same rules. You just have to make a judgement call. This weapon has so much versatility and the amount of fun to be had with it compensates for the flaws that numerous people have already outlined.

I am no pro at this game but I find I am a favourite in a 1v1 as my rocketeer in most situations. Against the best 3-4 players on our servers I would give my self a 30% chance to win a 1v1. I guess thats a way to measure the effectiveness of helfires, though most of my success come from the HEAT canon and drawing out the engagement.

I won't complain about a buff though =P.

If the spread wasn't so bad at point blank, I could live with the Hellfires, but right now, it just gets me angry when I fire point blank and 0 missiles hit.

FIX THE GOD DANG HELLFIRES. THEY LITERALLY DO 113 DAMAGE NINE TIMES OUT OF TEN.

If you fire on a target too close to you, all missiles lose lock and detonate mid air. I actually don't understand why this hasn't been fixed, it has been getting worse and worse, and I'm not talking about the lock on bug! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH I'm so frustrated! The second volley almost never locks!
