So I'm in a match and kicked butt, coming in first.  I guess the opposing team didn't know what they were doing.  After the match, this noob told me my Assault Mech is "over powered". How's that_  Every internal, mod, and weapon I used I had unlocked thru game progression and he/she could easily get the same stuff.  Also, I get my butt kicked a lot so I don't see what this noob was talking about.

More like, half the mech I see are assaults.

Is there like a sticky thread in the Steam forum that tells everyone to go Assault_

Sigh, just because THEY can unlock the same thing YOU already did, doesn't mean that its not overpowered (do you guys even know what over powered means_). If this was the definition than there would never EVER be an overpowered gun in gaming history. Overpowered means that it is significantly better than its counter parts...which the assault mechs are. The problem right now (at least to me) is that there are not much difference between mech classes in speed. Granted a class A mech does move faster than a class B mech, and a class B moves faster than a class C, the speed difference is not enough to really matter in combat. As an assault, you get the speed adavntage over C class, plus fire power and armor or A class mechs. The fact that the A class mechs can move faster doesn't matter because by the time they get a chance to do so...they are dead.

When someone complains your mech is overpowered its really a compliment to how you played.

No mech is actually overpowered in this game, the nearest thing is air compressor on A class mechs, but even then not really.
Assault is just a really well balanced mech that is easier to play than most other mechs.

Try to get the ultimate compliment of someone accusing you of using an "aimbot"

Having 3 assaults in my team and 6 assaults in enemy team is not so fun. It's not even exactly overpowered, it's just G2 assault is a mech for people with no brain.

Yeah,  G2's suck.  Look cool, play terrible.

Normal Assaults are well balanced and effective, and I play mine often.  

They are still easily countered in many situations, like all mechs are.

If I saw 6 assaults in enemy team (no balance), I would go Infiltrator and start drooling in anticipation of the mech feast awaiting me

The G2 has no ranged attack.  I can sit back and pick people off at distance with the Prestige Assault Rifle.  Good stuff.

The battlefield is overunned with Assaults these days, while I am still one of those hipsters using a Bruiser.

Tried the Assault back when it was opened for test drive. Couldn't get used to it so I gave up and hence I couldn't really see how it is an OP mech. I killed quite a couple of them with my Bruiser though. The player you played against was probably charging straight you.
