id play it without a second thought.  simply put, it has the same life/death consequences as life, but more power ups.  i couldnt contain my nerdgasms if, upon graduating high school, i was given a claymore or broadsword and told to go level up...

I kept hearing about it from friends recently, I checked out ep 1 and it was awesome!

I just watched the first episode.  I'm very impressed with it.  Definitely well written, and by people familiar with MMO tropes and concepts.

I do kind of worry that it plays so hard on the fantasy of "the game being real," making everyone seems really upset and worried, when you know that there are probably plenty of people (myself included) who feel that it would actually be much easier to progress in life under the structured, reward-oriented systems of a game.  How that impulse will transform society in the future, I can only imagine.  Is it escapism or transcendence_

Looking forward to watching the rest of it, anyway, to see how/if it handles these ideas...

you can find the series on crunchyroll for free, which is a legal anime streaming service, although it will have a small amount of commercials spread throughout the stream and only play in SD, the 2 week trial can be setup via paypal and you can cancel the automated payment instantly if you don't wish to subscribe, so it can't cheat you, i believe it is 7USD m/o and its funny because a single new release digital rental is that much for 24-48 hours on most other demand services and due to the vast catalog of instant anime on demand its very attractive

anyway it also conveniently displays a countdown timer for the most recent coming soon episode for that anime, since discovering this service recently i have watched a rather disgusting amount of anime this week, new SAO comes out in 3 days, 4 hours and membership allows 1080p streams for certain anime, infact, rather than thinking about glorious anime, i shall go watch some now.

and it was great, only 4 episode left aparently and no information on 3rd season even tho the story features 2 more arc...can only hope....and btw on a older post about VR, with the oculus rift prototype comming soon and full product in 2013, if the hype is big enough it could evolve really fast, one can only hope again.

btw oculust rift works with hawken witch is great, pass the word to everyone!

I watched the first two episodes, and whoever wrote this does not know how to suspend disbelief. The fact that it was written by a 15 year old explains just about everything that's wrong with it.

Firefox/Chrome + Adblock Plus = problem solved. SD ... *cough* 720p torrents out there *cough* eventually BD rips also *cough*. I just use CR though, its convenient XD

Whenever I watch I care more about what's happening in the real world rather than SAO. Two years!_ You think the world is just going to twiddle its thumbs over a hostage situation that's affecting at least tens of thousands for two whole years_ It's not like they're in Africa, they're in our own hospitals, using consumer grade electronics that we have access to.

btw this is a great author, should you read the novels, tho I doubt you will...bah anyway if you hate it why post here O_o_ this should be a place for fans of the series, not haters : /

That explains everything that was wrong about Accel World.

Sword Art Online is awesome.

The second through seventh episodes are actually side stories that don't matter. The animated series literally starts with filler to get people acquainted with the world. I personally would have rathered they stick to the novels and make the side stories OVAs but that's just me.

Honestly the little sister thing creeped me out more than a bit. And no, being cousins doesn't make it okay.

I would have preferred a more Luke/Leah approach. Neither of them know and when they find out it gets awkward. Something along the lines of her getting attracted to Kirito then finding out and being pissed at him for leading her on or some other crazy girl logic.
