This may be of some limited help to a subset of people experiencing difficulty connecting to games, or being disconnected during map transitions. The router itself may be the problem.
My problems in this category were fixed by using a Linksys router connected to the Zyxel router (the latter in transparent bridge mode). Simple as that!

Did you try to manually forward the ports that Hawken uses before you replaced your router_

Yes, that did nothing. I also tried DMZ, which did nothing.
I replaced the router because the Zyxel router couldn't handle the number of simultaneous wireless connections it was being subjected to. The fix for Hawken was a happy accident.
