Looking at the main promo poster I would think that we could already!
But if we did have the ability to do so, I would say we have the option to customize him too. Make a little mini me! :)

I think it might be a cool idea for missions, but the ability to leave your mech after it has been destroyed in multiplayer seems like it could get really annoying.

Sounds like front mission mechanic to me. It would be a nice addition, though i see it changing the pace of competitive play in a bad way.

Use robots that look human(but are not) to stop rated going up

Hawken has it's own flavor.
It shouldn't amalgamate every other FPS out there.
It would become homogenized and weak.

I would not mind having a "human" pilot and being able to slightly customize him or her, but I would not recommend attempting to integrate a "puny 1hp defenseless human mode" change to the game. Maybe when you are in your garage or when the carrousel comes up you could see your little dude or dudette and make him /dance, but to integrate a "human mode" while in game_ No, please.

two thing would happen if there were playable pilots

1- pilots would be really weak and useless so no one would bother ejecting but rather opt to respawn

2- pilots would be very strong and people would stop using mechs.

I'm not sure if this topic is still on the table, considering the date and all, but in case it still is:

The idea is neat, but I'm not sure about the ways it could be implemented - this is not Titanfall, after all.

Maybe it could be possible to include something on the strictly cosmetical side of things without affecting the gameplay_ Like having some actual limbs in your cockpit simulating human presence inside. Or perhaps use the brief period of time before the match starts to show how your pilot climbs inside the mech and seals the hatch while some techs around the starter pen rapidly pack their equipment and evacuate themselves_ A bunch of friendly infantry - the recon team of your faction - jogging by or riding on APCs towards the closest map exit_ Civilians frantically running for shelters_ Local fauna in case the map is set in a wilderness area_ Repair animation including your pilot applying 'percussive maintenance' via a sledgehammer to the ammo feed on the autocannon_ Mech death animation showing the machine crumpling and the pilot unhurriedly climbing out and surveying the damage_

Basically, things that wouldn't affect gameplay in any way at all, immersion visuals only.

Inclusion of things like artillery strikes and aircraft strafing runs that players are capable of calling down on their enemies' heads after certain conditions are met could be cool; and so are friendly NPC units in the form of choppers and some cobbled together all-terrain wheeled vehicles... but things like that look really far off currently.
