Poll: Keeping Mechs, Upgrades & Experience as Benefit to Hawken (142 member(s) have cast votes)

Should Alpha and Closed Beta testers be able to keep their Mechs, Upgrades & Experience going into 12/12/12_

  1. Yes, Alpha / Closed Beta should keep their accounts as is going in to the open beta (23 votes [16.31%])

    Percentage of vote: 16.31%

  2. No, Complete account reset is necessary (118 votes [83.69%])

    Percentage of vote: 83.69%

If Alpha / Closed Beta players kept their accounts with all accrued Mechs, Upgrades and Experience going into the 12/12/12 opening the following concessions should be made:_

  1. "DEV" kills would provide a single daily bonus boost {if you kill one} (19 votes [11.24%])

    Percentage of vote: 11.24%

  2. "ALPHA" kills would provide a lesser single daily bouns boost (16 votes [9.47%])

    Percentage of vote: 9.47%

  3. "BETA" kills would the least bonus for a single daily kill (19 votes [11.24%])

    Percentage of vote: 11.24%

  4. No Bonuses. Hard Reset of all accounts to date. (115 votes [68.05%])

    Percentage of vote: 68.05%

Should Alpha, Beta & Dev's get a special in game tag to make the above proposals a focus for new players_

  1. Yes, it's a great idea! (52 votes [36.88%])

    Percentage of vote: 36.88%

You should be able to keep your Mechs, Upgrades and Experience From Alpha/Beta tests. This would be an apropriate thank you for all the hours put in by participating players for helping develop this great product.

Besides, as an Alpha or Closed Beta "advance gamer" we could provide the game with a legendary twist.
An award or reward if you will.

Kill us and get bonus experience. This would be a daily bonus per player per mech.
As Dev's play they would provide the "ultimate bonus" in the same manner to player below them. A Once Daily Boost per player per mech would be provided.

No "daily" experience would be provided a superior or equal {ie:Dev/Alpha/Beta} player. Only to lesser players that make a kill shot to a superior player to themselves {ie:Dev/Alpha/Beta}.
Dev/Alpha/Beta players would be considered "Levels" for the purpose of this booster experience.

There could even be a "contest" to see how many Dev/Alpha/Beta's you could kill in 24 hrs.

This would provide a challenge to both old and newplayers alike.

The above concepts would be exclusive to Hawken. A first for FPS period. I'm sure this could get Hawken a Gamers Choice award next year!

With that I put this compendium of thoughts out for all players and Dev's to review.
What do you guys think_

While I would love it if I could keep everything I earned in the betas, I don't think this would be fair for any players, alpha, beta, or otherwise.

For starters, the devs granted us with a lot of free Meteor Credits to spend on our mechs. That alone helped me to boost my mech's power by quite a lot for free.

Additionally, balancing is still a very likely thing happening on the development side. If a player got kills using a weapon that wasn't balanced the same way as the released game, it would mean they got a lot of kills that they may not have earned otherwise. Same with armor or items. While this might be nice for our stats, I wouldn't feel like I earned it properly. New players may feel the same way.

And with some of the new players in the beta complaining about how some of us seemed to be "cheating" (but in reality weren't... just upgraded weapons, mechs, and learned tactics) and saying that the game was really unbalanced, I would imagine there would be even more of that if beta testers were allowed to keep the mechs we've built.

Last thing, I think the idea of bonuses for killing alpha/beta/dev players is kinda cool, but something like this would be better aimed at anyone with high XP and a high level mech. I don't think it's terribly difficult to down a high level player, especially if you get lucky by taking one out after they've been in a skirmish. Also, would a lesser-skill Alpha player grant a bigger bonus than a high-skill Beta player_ Having a mechanic like this could also potentially take away from them being able to make money on the game's paid aspects.

Nice ideas, but ultimately I think it wouldn't bring much benefit to the game. :)

Response to: Proposing no Hard Reset

Being able to participate and experiencing HAWKEN before Open Beta through Closed Alpha and Beta Testing should be a "your welcome" from Adhesive Games to us.

A "thank you" from Adhesive Games should simply be the changes, fixes, and suggestions that prove to help refine HAWKEN even more and a single line in the credits that simply acknowledges the community for play testing Hawken in the Closed-Phase.

With the skills we all have developed from testing, it should be no problem to excel and earn plenty of Hawken Credits.

Response to: Experience Bounties (is what i am calling them)

Interesting concept, but i would prefer they decide not to.

If anything, implementing this would inflate the game with more coding; more area for the game to glitch and break.

Simply put, we already had a hard reset from Alpha to Beta. (Which is good, considering there are things we saw in Alpha we still can't talk about that are awesome - trust me!) However, allowing those of us who were in Beta to keep stuff would put a very bad disadvantage on all the players that will come in on Open Beta - the poor guys who are coming in to CBE3 are already going to have it bad enough against us vets, and the fact that vets of the Alphas/Betas already have dozens of hours of experience up on new players is dangerous enough.

Alpha players who played in its last 12 hours will have some camo/item that will allow them to be recognized (as will the dev killers from an event during it), though, as will anyone who buys higher levels of Vanguard Initiative (though I'm pretty sure it's not the same reward, as even we Alpha players don't know what it is, just that it'll be cosmetic only). While it's nice to have that kind of recognition in terms of having helped test and make the game grow, getting a bonus for killing them is too much, not to mention it basically long-term harms people who were testers since eventually the number of non-tester players will far outweigh the testers, but I'll fundamentally get less out of killing them than they will out of me, for example.

Therefore, the fairest option is a full-on hard reset come open beta.

In my opinion, being in alpha/beta of as awesome game as hawken is really enough reward for helping in development, so i don't see why we would need those mechs and hp's. We already have our experience, and ones who was lucky enough to get in alphas (#2 in my case) , i think it was reward enough to get drive some of those things which (sadly) did not make it to beta.

They may be in Beta 3, for all we know. :P

Who wants to start an Open Beta with an even more skewed playing field haha.. experience of the game is enough reward for us. I think there are some changes on the way for the leveling and upgrade system anyway. Experience and knowledge are more valuable than any upgrades and such. Just channel it in to one focus when you start in Open Beta and enjoy (:

Personally I enjoy leveling up again and deciding what to upgrade or improve. Trying out different items is fun.

It must be wiped! I have 3 level 20 mechs, DO NOT MAKE THIS UNFAIR. I play beta to test, to try things out, and to really fuzzy bunny around to see just how the game handles things people do not normally do. Alpha was just to test if the game worked, these first two closed betas were to stress test the servers and to try some of the new programs, maps, and game modes. This third Beta will be testing some new implementations alongside more stress testing.

We will keep our stuff after Open Beta, be thankful for that because some games even reset Open for final release. Any game in closed beta that allows you to keep you stuff, really isn't in closed beta IMO. They're invite only games at that point. We're testers, and as testers we should get little to no privileges afterwards. We get to play the game early and make it better. That is what we must be thankful for.

Stats_ Reset.
Mech_ Reset.
Garage_ Reset.
HP/MP_ Reset.

I like the idea of having an identifier for Alpha/CBE players, but have a different idea for implementation; In profile and public statistics, show the date at which the player initially started playing. Forum tags are a different question though, for which I am all for.

Here's why Closed Beta progress will be wiped: You were given free Hawken/Meteor Points with which to buy and outfit those mechs. Why_ To speed up the process of acquiring them so you could test more than the newbie grind of having a starter mech and nothing else.

Even if we assume that people "should" be allowed to keep their Closed Beta progress, it's starting from an unfair position, because I guarantee that you won't be starting with 4800 Meteor Points for free on any brand new account in Open Beta. Right off the bat, letting anyone from CB keep their mechs is unfair. You don't "deserve" anything, you were invited to test the game. You were not given a golden ticket to get early access to the game a couple months in advance of the unlucky public.

so much sas

also, expecting incentives because you were literally lucky enough to get a key is stupid and elitist. there are plenty of people who would have helped shape the game given the chance but didnt recieve a key. this is the first game i got into alpha for and ive been pc gaming since 2005. i dont expect to be rewarded for my luck.

I absolutely agree that wipe is needed.
All who have played at this stage of the project should understand that the game isn't ready yet.
Accordingly all who peaked during the test get a distinct advantage over those who will play after the official opening.
And I think wipe the easiest way.
