The problem with the poll is that it should have an option for only certain items to be deployed by the drone. Then my vote would instantly change.

I just noticed it does now :) vote changed.

Ah ok, to me it just seemed to give the impression of future items that havn't yet been implemented (so turret/hologram not included).

i cant believe i just stumbled into a dev war this thread is hilarious. being able to place turrets high and out of the way without having to actually fly there would be amazing provided you can get creative with the and place them off the ground on walls and things the way you can now with some creative flying. a turret is best when no one can see where its shooting from.

...provided of course that you can't place turrets anywhere that you couldn't already jump/fly to. Otherwise there could be problems....

of course it would just make it harder for me to get spotted and attacked trying to fly up to those places (i like flying up to dark corners and placing turrets in them to surprise the people that come after me while sniping. a drone draws a lot less attention. its also much more realistic to have your drone deploy things rather than them just magically dropping off your mech.

Can't I just send the drone under the AA during heavy fire to act as a distraction to the enemy team XD

sure why not but it would be a waste of equipment. which brings up another topic. if the drones are deployable are they destoyable
and what are the consequences of losing your drone_ you cant repair_

well, just for clarification, what I meant was, it would be unfair to be able to place a turret in a part of the map you couldn't get to yourself. I.E. waaaay high up on a building or on a ceiling somewhere. I think if my idea is implemented, it should remain areas that you can jump/walk to that you can place items.

it could work like this:

[a little bit like the Guide Bot from Descent 3]: Drones are indestructible [items already aren't] but perhaps shooting the drone could prevent it from dropping the item, in which case, after taking enough damage, it returns to its owner.

I was joking about sending it out to distact the enemy, although I find that mildly entertaining.

First off having a little 'bot' zoom off and drop your items is a great idea, I think that implementation may cause more problems than its worth.

The main problem I see with drone-item-deployment is where in relation to the mech the item gets deployed.

Personally I like how you can 'launch' the scrambler/radar onto terrain objects using your cross-hair but if you need to stop, wait for drone to deploy, then drop the item and return to your mech I can see that that will cause item use to be much slower, eg you couldn't really drop a scrambler while quickly retreating.

A. select the MG turret
B. press and hold the "use item" key, in which case, your mech stops moving and your mouse becomes a NAV indicator that moves along the ground.
C. You select a spot in the intersection, then watch your drone launch, fly over to the spot, and drop a turret.
This Idea is almost perfect actually, except for the whole need-to-wait-while-item-deployed scenario. Plus the need to implement an easy way to command direction of turret placement with the above idea.

I really hope that with this discussion the devs and community managed to figure out a way that we can add this feature without detracting from the game's fast paced action.

good point again. However, I rather liked the fact you would be immobile while choosing a location, since that would force players who favor items such as the turret to use them more strategically/when they really need them, rather than just spamming items in a quick pinch like many players currently did during CB2.

NOTE: You should only be immobile while selecting a point to place your item. Once you select the location [with the NAV indicator I proposed], the drone should go to work automatically, minimizing the time you're actually immobile.

OR...

Idea 2: if immobility really does present an issue, perhaps you could choose the location simply by facing the direction you want to place the item, in which case you would:

A. Aim your crosshair in the direction you want to place your item.
B. Press the "use item" button
C. Watch your drone launch and place the item on the ground/wall in the place you were pointed.

in this case, there would never be a point of immobility during play.

i think it would be better implemented if you could still move around while you drone was out building the turret

aiming could be immobile though it would add some strategy to when you placed your turrets

Deuy just doesn't feel like working on all the animations that go along with this, so he's using logic and reasoning and science to make it sound like a bad idea.
