The word "scr*b" is an integral part of forum culture, and its censoring with the change of administration has resulted in severe frustration among many of the game's most dedicated players. It fulfills the unique niche of being relatively inoffensive yet specific in a way that applies to many situations encountered here and in-game, so being unable to say it makes communication significantly more difficult at times. Its closest relative is likely "noob," but that word doesn't convey the same exact sentiment and sounds awkward as of five years ago.

 

Thank you for your consideration of my idea, and I hope you'll see that only positive changes can come from this suggestion.

I don't get them either. A lot of more offensive and commonly used words get by just fine too, so it's not like they're censoring everything remotely objectionable.

You need to make up your minds, make fuzzy bunny = fuzzy bunny, don't make fuzzy bunny = fuzzy bunny. I've no problem with removing or adding words to the filters, just make up your minds :P

Well, from what I've seen in this community so far "scr*b" is often used in jokes or other nonsense and rarelyto actually hurt others. If someone goes around calling others "scr*bs" I really have a hard time taking that person seriously.

 

Also: Why the hell is "de ad" censored? de_ad => dead

I definitely remember a couple people asking for dead to be censored in the same way as it was prior to Reloaded in the thread Tiggs made about forum censorship. I don't really have a personal opinion on it.

However, I do like calling people like Jeff scr*bs, so I do have an opinion on this particular word. Just a small opinion, but still there every time I have to work around the censor.

I think the ded thing is just sort of a tradition thing, a reminder of the dark times at the end of the old forums. I don't mind it.

Well, I meant more the culture surrounding how often de-ad was used in "this game is dead" threads made people irrationally ask for it's removal.

 

Honestly, I hate that sort of filter. I'd like it if the forum filter didn't make me look like I'm too "brainded" to spell a four letter word that a 4th grader is capable of spelling correctly. And it's not like it's full-on censoring it either. It still transmits the same meaning, context, doesn't hide anything offensive, and really serves no purpose. It just looks dumb.

It doesn't make sense. If people want to use "ded" instead of "de ad" they can just write "ded". Nobody should forced to do it.

 

BTW: that "dark time" was also the time when "update" got censored as "fuzzy bunny" and that wasn't funny at all. I don't mind not getting reminded of that dark time, you know.

I'm still trying to comprehend how the word s c r u b even got on the list in the beginning. Not even joking. Why in hell was it ever there at all? What was the person who "banned" this word reasoning? Just seems totally whacked to me. Yeah please unban this. This is silly.

I think some people in that thread weren't being serious and were suggesting things without actually thinking they'd be blocked by the filter, tbh. It was likely more "wouldn't it be funny if x inoffensive word was censored" in a mostly sarcastic way than "x word needs to be banned because it offends me and/or other people" like some of the slurs people found that made it past the initial list.

This is likely what happened. In retrospect a poll might've been done, but I wouldn't even trust that.

 

Just goes to show the issues of a vocal minority in this forum, especially if they are in jest.
