Dallas Server Comparisons - Feedback Needed

Today has been problematic on ALL servers regardless of region; Account syncing and Stat syncing is taking 30 seconds ( each ) or longer between every match, or upon leaving a match.

 

That's besides the generally slower pings, hit detection being worse than ever, players teleporting and random lag spikes, and the weapons randomly stopping from firing fro no reason. 

 

Please hurry up with the programmer hiring, this game has so many long standing bugs that environmental health are starting to sniff around...

Hi there,

 

Things were running great for me for quite a while before this network upgrade. Now, there is a constant problem with lag stutters despite a very low ping. Hope we're able to get things resolved, because it's borderline unplayable now.

Everybody seems to have different experiences with different servers. Are these issues somehow caused by distance? The server that gives me the best performance is Oregon, which is considerably closer to my geographical location than Dallas and Ashburn (I'm in western Canada). Ashburn gives me the worst performance by far, and it is physically the furthest from me.

 

I think Nightfirebolt has a good point here. One can't expect that their experience during a match on a given server is always solely because of the client and server interaction; don't get me wrong, most of it is, but if you ignore the other relevant context, then you don't have the whole picture. Just like Nightfirebolt suggested, geographic location does make a difference. Another factor is time of day in your given region. For me, there is an obvious perceivable difference between when I play during the day (roughly anywhere from 8am-3pm) and when I play during the evening (~5pm - 11pm). I attribute this to people near me coming home in the evenings and getting on the internet to stream their shows etc. This effects me because, as we know, the internet is a shared medium and the "pipes" in any given region's "last mile" are only so big and often reach capacity during evening times. When this happens, network performance is usually affected all around, it's just only noticeable with real-time applications like VoIP phones, or in this case, games.

 

With that said, I think it could only help and add-to the push for a solution if we were to also notate our general location and time of play. Not a demand of course, just an observation.

teleporting, no-hit dead center shots, freezing. DM 5815. what ever you are doing please stop. this is so fuktup. i'm only 2 hours drive from the ashburn servers, 20 ping, and getting horrible play. wtf.

EU servers have never been as bad as they have been today for me, tried both the 66t and 30t servers and it was to the point that it finally became unplayable. As per usual, a check of load an temps on my PC and testing my connection showed the problem was not coming from me, I tried 2 other multiplayer games to see if they had the same behavior, and they did not.

Why not giving us tools (or pocedures) to provide you appropriate feedback if you need some data for your charts and stats.

Dallas1 is so much better for west coast people. Their ping is much lower, still not what I'd like to see, hit reg is much better. We still get rubberbanding and questionable hit reg but overall a much better quality.

I'd like to believe the Dallas1 servers are improved, but...

 

This isn't empirical, but I live in Louisiana, and even though I have a 30-40 ping on Dallas1, the hit registration felt pretty bad tonight.  I mean staring at the crosshair while it was over an enemy mech, firing, all the while wondering wtf because 2/3rds of the shots just never seemed to register.  Movement was still fluid, TOWs still worked properly, didn't seem like packetloss.

 

Dodging up close to a wall will still rubberband, but not nearly as bad as west coast.  For what it's worth.

I'm in Dallas, Texas, and I was in the same match as Epsilon_Knight.  For 3/4 of the MA match, neither he nor I could hit an enemy with primary shots. 

 

For the last 1.5-2 min, all our shots landed, and it was funny to listen to our target afterwards on TS.

 

The variableness of the hitregistration is really awful to try to deal with - and it means whatever tests Josh and team run have to last 30 min (our MA match was probably about 8-9 min).

I had a great couple of matches on this server.  I live in Nebraska and my ping was 44 and I experienced minimal lag and no misesd hit markers or anything of the sort.  Matches were between 0500-0600 Central time.

Whichever dallas version is used for The Green Room, it was atrocious ~9pm EST last night.  Dropped shots all around and tows detonating on impact with my mech and other peoples' but doing no damage.  Easily the worst I've seen it.

 

Reloaded, please spring for some real servers that are at least on par with ADH's previous, comparatively less trash-like garbage.

 

I felt like a crazy person complaining about dropped shots then, but now I'm just part of the crowd.

 

I have been playing for two years and aside from the game collapsing into obsolescence, this is the only thing that will get me to stop playing.  I don't start the game up to relax even a quarter as much anymore, and it is not due to waning infatuation with the concept of the game's revival; it is because I am tired of my shots not existing or my dodges being mush.  I can't possibly convince anyone I know to play this when our skill essentially doesn't matter at any random time.  These problems also exist on USE, but in addition, for no discernible reason, I usually get 60 ping there now too, even though I had been getting between 8 and 40 from 2013 to before the buyout; the latency I expect, aka ~30, sometimes is attainable, but never for a full match.  I live in southeastern Pennsylvania.  This is inexcusable.

 

Also, etch-a-sketch dodges, everywhere.  You know what I'm talking about.

Tonight on EU even on 60t servers dodging turned Hawken into PowerPoint; the Game. The usual "nope, shooting a Mirv at someone repairing 5 meters in front of you will not do any damage" was also in effect.

 

I'd really like to understand what changed between ADH and Reloaded servers that makes dodges rubberband to hell and back.

i noticed minimal hit registration issues one dallas1 lately, but i also get around 20 fps or so, so im not always sure im hitting anything.

I don't know if the dallas1 and dallas2 servers are the same as dallas and dallas1 servers, but I had an atrocious time tonight on any dallas server I was on.

 

dallas1: ping wasn't terrible (I think it was between 108 and 140, but stayed steady whenever I was on it), but it felt like I was punching a rubber wall. Everything felt weird, but consistently weird. Frustrating to play on.

 

dallas2: ping was between 108 and 192, and fluctuated every 30 seconds or so, staying at one or the other. However, ping felt more like 150-300, with shots coming out way later than they should (108 felt like 150, 192 felt like 300+).

 

Just an overall bad time tonight on any dallas server I was on. Usually I can tolerate some mild server farts, but this time it was so bad I didn't want to play any longer for the night. Really frustrating.

Oddly enough when I was playing on the same server TJ was on this morning EST, I got consistent ok ping and hitreg.

 

I was in some of the same matches with TJ this morning and had ALL of the same issues - with 16 ping.

Yeah, this morning was actually more improved on dallas2 than the night I reported, but still felt a bit like punching a rubber wall compared to other servers. Ping was consistently 108, but it felt worse than that. I can't really rule out the ping fluctuation being caused by my ISP, but when I was on other servers the ping wasn't fluctuating, and I didn't have anything else using bandwidth on my end.

 

Some players with much lower ping were apparently teleporting here and there, and several were also saying their hits weren't registering. One player was wondering why his direct TOW hit on a repairing player didn't do much damage, which was the kind of thing I saw a couple nights ago.

Dallas2 servers are working much better to me. Ping is reaally stable, and between 20-30ms less than the Dallas1 servers. No issues with gameplay but maybe my perception isn't refined enough to provide valuable feedback.

Tried one of the NA servers today, I forget which one- ping was 20-40 higher compared to the other west coast servers ( 200-220 vs 180 ). Also experienced 0% hit detection when trying to kill a tech who was within spitting distance- grenades and heat cannon causing no damage despite landing all around and on him.

it would be nice to separate the usa servers back into east, west and central regions on the server browser menu- I can't tell at a glance where the heck the servers are usually, geography wasn't my favourite subject.

All in all, pings are higher on all servers world wide ( for me ), and lag & hit detection is as bad as it's ever been. Yay.

Im on a dallas1 server. 

 

right now.. 

 

and it locked up. everyone just froze like time stopped and im the only one still moving. Cant shoot guns, cant chat, cant do anything but walk around with heat frozen at 50%..

One thing I noticed about dallas2 (or at least for those who are on its 'good' list) is it doesn't get progressively worse as the server fills up.  Was on the THC server a few days ago and while the matches were tight to start with, it felt all chunky and delayed once there were 6 or more players.

66T servers are absolutely terrible lately. Ping is fine, but people are teleporting, rubber banding, hit detection is about 50% at best ( fired a grenade + heat cannon right through a stationary player, awesome! ) and laggy response to things like turning and dodging is making games on those servers unplayable. 33T servers seem to be fine, though in general all the servers are junk compared to how they were before all the new ones were brought on line, after Reloaded took over.

That single programmer they hired is gonna have his work cut out... :-/

Like I said, ALL the servers are problematic- varies a bit but in general reported performance is just not where it used to be a year or 4 ago. Then again, hit detection has ALWAYS been poor on some servers, even back in the alpha days. Something is borked somewhere and needs to be de-borked...

Just thought I'd report in, Dallas2 servers are still working well for me.

 

Seems I spoke too soon. I played on Dallas2 today and had some of the worst lag/hit reg problems I've experienced thus far. I was literally spamming people at point blank with my miniflak and only 25% of them would connect. Some teleporting and other weird random things were occuring, too.

I have noticed one more thing that has been extra prevalent recently for me and that is that sometimes for whatever reason I get caught on everything. Every teammate, every corner, and every grounded log on last eco has it out for me. I'm not doing anything different it's just things are more sticky than usual.
