I would like to be able to shoot at arms or legs and break them off, allowing you to disable the weapons on mechs, or take out their mobility. It owuld add new depth to the gameplay, and make it more tactical, though it would probably work best as a mode, and not an all around change.

This would bring it more in line with MechWarrior. I can get behind this

This idea has been brought up several times.

This game is not a mech simulator, it is an arena shooter with mechs. You can argue that even UT has headshots, but this would not apply well to HAWKEN. Mobility is a key element of the game, anything that would interfere with it would make it a horrible experience on the receiving end. Like the "stunlock" bug we had that stopped the boosting mech's momentum. It was the most annoying thing in the game before it was fixed. Hitting someone's legs would be a lucky shot most of the time anyway.

Implementing it as a separate mode would be the same futile attempt as the destructable environment idea was.

This has been gone over in the past if I recall correctly.

The game is too arena-y and the body shapes would lead to really bad hitboxes.

This would bring it more in line with MechWarrior. I can get behind this

It doesn't need to be more in line with Mechwarrior. HAWKEN is its own thing.

I have to agree with both of these.

It sounds interesting, but it just wouldn't work well with Hawken. Hawken was designed to be a mix of western style (walking tanks, ala Mechwarrior) and eastern stye (mecha, ala Gundam), faster pace with the feel of being in a big stompy machine.

Adding location shots would just turn things into a 'how fact can you leg your enemy' game, IMO of course.

It wouldn't work, the game would turn into "shoot the legs off" and then you're done. It doesn't give the game depth and it doesn't make the game more tactical, it makes it more shallow because it limits my effective choices.

Meh...doesn't sound interesting for this type of game play.  If somebody wants to shoot legs off, they can play MWO instead; this game is different.
