There are only about 250 players, which makes playing any mode other than Team Deathmatch nearly impossible, not to mention there are a lot of hackers.

The game is also free to play, that means the developers make a living out of how many people buy Meteor Credits and DLC, but with a community so small it makes me wonder; how long will the game resist?

Exteel got deleted and that game had a lot of players, whereas this one doesn't.

The idea of the game being deleted makes me sad, since it's hard to find a good online mech/robo game.

What do you think? Does this make any sense?

I think it is. Life support is a better term for it. Reloaded - the company that is presently working on the game - is apparently continuing development. From a business standpoint, keeping the playerbase low right now is for the best if there's any intention of moving the game forward. As it stands, Hawken has very poor player retention. That's not a thing any of us like, but it's a problem that needs to be solved before anyone starts asking for more players - else those new players will just be people who tried the game at some point, not likely to be customers in any sense.

Is it dead? Most players in any sense of "the know" would say no, though most of us have the sense to keep our expectations low. We just appreciate the game for what it is, and are happy we can continue to play it.

PS - you may find it more conducive to your experience to abandon the idea of Hawken being a "mech game". That is admittedly, perhaps one of its greatest problems. Many people arrive expecting a World of Tanks/MechWarrior Online experience, but that is a far, far cry from what this game is. It's best described as a class based arena shooter (with a turn cap) with a mech skin and lore.

I really think someone in Reloaded should take the time to redo all the animations in the game, making Hawken just that much closer to a re-animated corpse.

I certainly don't hope Hawken will die any time soon.

 

I'm a fairly new Hawken player and I've become close to addicted to playing Hawken, there is so much to learn, its player movement is unique and hard to master compared to most FPS games out there, the maps are varied, beautiful and very well made, I really feel I am in some huge Mechanical fighting robot and that is  amazing. All I wish for is more players would try this or come back and play it again. Hopefully it will pick up again after Reloaded releases the big update they are currently working on.

Careful what you wish for, more players have already tried Hawken and bailed after roughly 30 days or so back when ADH lifted the initial steam pay-gate on Hawken.  Say what you will about how good this game is, but, what we have now was a massive flop then and likely would be a massive flop all over again until Reloaded can tweak the fail out of Hawken. 

 

Don't get me wrong here, Hawken can be a lot of fun when everything comes together just right..  but you can't ignore how many people have voted with their time and spent said time playing other games.  Semi-dead, life support, coma, limbo, whatever anyone wants to call it, this transition state that Hawken is in, until Reloaded gets game development in full gear, this is probably the state that Hawken should be in.  I'd rather they not burn through first impressions all over again like ADH/meteor did and risk Hawken truly dying.

I don't think we can truly call it "dead" until you can't log in and find games.

 

The better question might be how long it will stay alive. Some day it may be shut down or reach the population of strike vector or toxikk, but when it does it will be even deader than those games are now because Hawken lacks the three magic words that can make a game live on in the hearts of diehards and lan parties:

 

"Player hosted dedis".
