Why in the world would anyone want to talk about a divisive topic such as politics (the recent election to boot) on a gaming forum?  It's not like we haven't already found Hawken-related topics that are divisive... now we have to drag politics into it?

How is this THAT much more different than when Bush won?  Clinton?  The other Bush?  Obama?!  Maybe I'm just desensitized to the whole ordeal.  I saw the news, I neither cried like a special snowflake or ran out in the streets screaming and rejoicing like an idiot.. I was surprised for all of a few minutes when I woke up to the news, and proceeded to get ready for and went to work... same thing I've done every election cycle; I get on with my life without freaking out.

Besides, if you live in the US, and you think your representatives need to reign Trump (or whomever the current president is) in, write or call them, same process no matter who's elected... sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.. *cough* approaching 20 trillion mark *cough*

Why are you foreigners even concerned about the US and our market? The markets just skyrocketed thanks to this outcome.  http://money.cnn.com...-wins-election/  (and that's from CNN, who loves Hillary) Look at the states who voted and how we voted by region, we wanted Trump clearly. http://www.nytimes.c...pan-abc-region

Worry about your own shitty countries and stay out of the US's business. We don't need nor want overreacting snowflakes running this country. If we did, Hillary would have won. Deal with it, because guess what, this just another day in the US and tomorrow isn't going to be any different for the everyday American. If people want to leave the US, lols good luck, leave already. I'm sure other countries will gladly accept Political Refugees (HA). Have fun paying those extra taxes for leaving and getting payed less at your new job there while still having to pay to become a citizen there. Give the grievers a month and they will fall in line like they always do every election.

WHY!?

Because you fuzzy bunny all over the place and suddenly don't wanna hear about it lol. Because you make deals and fuzzy bunny people over the next day. Because your shitty tentacles are all over our shitty countries. Because the rest of the world DEPENDS on your crumbling magic mountain.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY BECAUSE WE WORRY ABOUT OUR SHITTY COUNTRIES.

We all are my friend, most of us try to hide it but some of us don't mind showing it. This community is way to easy to mess with, you're trying to talk politics on a video game forum, you should always expect outlandish statements to arise, you're setting yourselves up. If you want to talk serious on this topic, well this is fact. Regardless of who gets elected in the US, your country will always get fked over. You know why? Because your leaders and our leaders are working together, in there own little circle. Both our politicians don't care about what our opinions are nor concerns are, they do what they want. If any of you really want real change or have us stay out of your business, well your going to have to do it yourselves. Become a politician or revolutionary and start some real change, instead of simply blaming us or others out there for your problems. Instead of looking outward, maybe you should look in-ward at solving your own problems at home.

i read bbc, reuters, haaretz, and for laffs, pravda and our local news.  i noted with raised eyebrow that the 6th largest economy in the world has it's heavy-movers contemplating seceding and naming themselves New California.

uh, right.

they're building campfires, building ice-fishing shacks and putting on their overcoats in hell, too.

The interview on 60 minutes awhile ago was good. I think it answers many of the scaremongering crap running around on the net. The LGBT do not have anything to fear. He is not coming for you. The Mexicans and Muslims have nothing to fear unless they are criminals or drug dealers and who wants them here anyhow. Watch it. Maybe it will explain things to you.

Oh and the world is not coming to a end. We are not going to war. The nukes are not flying. The stock market closed higher than it has in over 5 years. And health insurance is going to be cheaper for real this time with less worries. And since his election he has spoken calm and rational. Not been racist. Not threatening the LGBT community.  He said they can stay married. That has already been decided by the supreme court. He is not coming for you. Watch tv, eat food. go to work, make love, and have a great weekend. I'm going to go play a game now.

The problem is not what he's saying now, the problem is the people who elected him despite what he said before. Trump is a symptom, not the root of this.

Not from trump directly of course, but if he gets a chance to fill the Supreme Court with the type of people that the Republican held house and senate will approve of there is the potential for some pretty regressive rulings. This is a very non-specific and non-inevitable possibility, but it is very real non the less.

The stock market closed higher than it has in over 5 years.

"The stock market" trends upwards and has since its inception. Nasdaq has been closing higher than it has in years on an almost weekly basis for the last 5 years, as has the S&P500. Relating a recent up tick in the market specifically to the election is ignoring very basic concepts of how the market and math works.

Am I just supposed to ignore stuff like this?

OK lets go bottom line. After Hillary told Trump to accept the election and move on. Her people did not. After saying his people were going to use violence if he wasn't elected. Who is burning flags, smashing cars, destroying busnesses, beating people with ballbats including a pregnant woman, attacking police, blocking city streets, blocking highways, blocking city sidewalks, making remarks on twitter to try to get people to make assassination attempts on President elect Trump? Hmm that would be her people, not Trump. When you do these things on the scale they are doing it, it is NOT a protest. That is a RIOT. That is illegal. They do not have the right to do that. So the one to fear is her people.

Quote "Donald Trump made a rare overture to the LGBTQ community Thursday night during his speech at the Republican National Convention. As president, I will do everything in my power to protect LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology, Trump said to applause." unquote.

Quote "

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks at a press event at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on March 5, 2016.Reuters

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump once showed his support to the LGBT community when he celebrated the same-sex marriage of singer Elton John to David Furnish back in 2005.

"There's a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Elton John married his long-time partner David Furnish on December 21," Trump wrote on his blog back on Dec. 22, 2005. "That's the first day that civil partnerships between gay couples became legal in England under the new Civil Partnership Act," he added.

What Trump liked about the John-Furnish marriage was that both showed determination to make it last. At the same time, their union made them better individuals, he said.

"Elton credits David with helping him kick drug and alcohol addictions that nearly killed him. The pair has been together for 12 years. I know both of them and they get along wonderfully. It's a marriage that's going to work," Trump said." unquote.

And on the stock market. You really need to go read. Serious. You are completely wrong. ALL the financial sourcers, Republican, Democrat, neutral, whatever are saying it is directely related to Trump. They are directly giving him credit. All of them. Not sure what you read, but the markets are up directly related to confidence in Trump in the office of the President. This is a irrefutable fact. Go read it at hundreds of sources.

So stop the scaremongering crap. Really, stop trying to make problems. How about we do as Hillary said "accept the results and move on".  I am not going to debate this further. I have stated the reported known verified results and no point in doing any more. If you so choose to refuse to accept them, that is your problem. Not mine. Chill out and lets move on. There are always arguments over every election in history. Get over it.

Eh, I don't care one way or another on legalizing Cannabis, just as long as they allow employers to continue to test for and fire for the use of if they choose to do so.  That, and hold individuals personally responsible for the stupid **** that they do while high... pretty much like they treat alcohol (abuse).

People should be held responsible for their actions, whether they are high or drunk or just took too many pain pills.  If you are impaired, you're impaired.  Period.  The substance that impaired you is not that important.

If cannabis was legal, why would you condone the privacy invasion that is known as a drug test?  It's OK to drink all weekend and sober up for Monday, but not OK to smoke a joint on a Friday?

Lets say someone has been doing their job well for 10 years, received praise, promotions, and raises, but they tested positive for cannabis.  You think it is OK to fire them just for testing positive?  But if they happened to just drink every evening instead, that's alright?

What about medicinal users?  Should they be fired too?

I'm more concerned with determining if a person is high or not on the job.  Or in short, addressing the liability of having an impaired individual working for you.  Maybe not a huge issue where motor skills and judgement aren't a factor, but especially for where it is an issue, I'd rather leave the discretion up to an employer (who could end up being responsible for the actions of an impaired employee).  I think there are saliva tests with a ~12hr detection window, for instance.. but how would you allow an employer to determine beyond a shadow of a doubt that someone is high on the job, to the point where they don't risk a lawsuit if they fire that person?

Besides, I don't recall the exact wording for everywhere I have worked, but drug testing as well as generally going to work sober and drug free are already conditions I agree to as terms of employment today.

First off, my last name is Trump, not Drumpf, enough of that crap.  Whether you like it or not, I'm here and president of the country.  So you can either moan and groan about me being elected and how the electoral college is broken and how (insert reason here) or you can accept that it happened and work towards a vision of America that you want to see, which is what I'm doing.  I'm making America great again.

How many times have I defied odds? People said I wouldn't be elected, wouldn't make it past primaries.  The moment where people dismiss me as a joke or whatever is where I shine best. I come through and people will see, hey, he didn't do such a bad job.

I am all for addressing the liability of an impaired individual on the job.  The problem is that it is quite difficult to prove impairment from cannabis.

Are you just as concerned about impairment due to prescription medication or lack of sleep?  ADHD medication, anti-anxiety meds, painkillers... heck even too much caffeine can affect some peoples motor skills and judgement.

Would you prefer to absolve employers for any liability (in this case) for their employees in the event that an employee tests positive for or refuses to be tested for cannabis use while on the job? Holding said employee solely responsible for damages and legal repercussions?

For the second part, again it depends, and likely best left to the discretion of individual employers.

In most jobs if you suspect the person is not up to par for their work you can let them go.  From what I've seen most places seem to have at will employment, meaning firing someone is at the discretion of the employer

After safety incidents you can always hold incident reviews, do root cause analysis and review the specific employees prior work with supervisors to determine whether the person should be let go.

Yes and no.

The problem I see is that there is not a test that can show you are impaired by cannabis at the time of the test.  The saliva test with a 12 hour window is not the same as a giving someone a breathalizer test for alcohol.  It does not show that you are impaired, only that you consumed cannabis within a 12 hour window - meaning you could be sober and not impaired and still test positive.  Not only that, but there is the whole tolerance thing to consider as well.  People who use cannabis medicinally usually have a very high tolerance and may not be impaired at all after using cannabis, but they would fail a drug test.

I understand your point about protecting employers.  But what about protecting individuals who use cannabis responsibly (not at work)?

How about giving some protection to people who choose to use a better alternative for recreation than alcohol?  Or people who choose to use cannabis over a slew of prescription meds (opiates, benzos, adhd, etc..) because it works better with fewer side effects?  Why should someone have to risk being fired for consuming a plant that is safer and healthier than alcohol and prescription meds?

When cannabis is fully legalized, it should not be part of pre-employment drug testing and it should be treated the same as any other recreational intoxicant or prescription medication, whatever the case for that individual may be.

Look, you're obviously pro-cannabis and aren't going to budge on this one.  That's fine.

However, just to make sure you're aware, there are industries out there, where drug testing not only occurs regularly, it's mandatory due to existing federal regulation.  And even if cannabis is legalized, I just don't see that requirement changing in these industries.

Again, I'm for leaving it up to the employer, which, if an employer includes drug testing and being drug free in your employment contract, you take the test and test clean or face disciplinary action and possibly termination of employment.. otherwise you go find an employer who doesn't care / have these requirements.

For prescription drugs, I'm fairly certain that'd be covered under ADA, which, I think employers can already require tests for such substances in a "medical examination" to test for fitness for work.  Lump cannabis in there, I suppose it would be treated the same as prescription drugs already covered under ADA.  Testing for, and actions that can be taken again employees, just with any other drug that employers can already screen for, provided testing is job related and necessary could then apply.
