Would releasing the VI cosmetics be immoral from the developers' standpoint?

 

Nope. For starters, it wasn't even their promise to begin with. If I promise you that TJ is gonna go jump off a cliff, I highly doubt you would find it immoral for TJ to not do so. That example alone doesn't prove you can always break someone else's promise, but the promise-part isn't the point of concern.

 

Secondly, even if it were their own promise, they're helping people.

 

Were it not for the fact that I have to wear other people's vocabulary to talk with them, I would just point out that moral good/bad is as much a phantom concept as the prior things I've mentioned, and therefore it really just can't be moral or immoral, but in the "colloquial" sense, noone could call it immoral without crossing over their own feet so to speak.

 

-and to add to this, I don't get what you mean by "from the developer's standpoint". Isn't something just moral or just immoral, ass opposed to "moral from this view" but not another? Or are we not using an objective moral system anyway? Legitimately asking.

Good and bad don't exist. Okay. I don't want to get into the relativism philosophical controversies so I'm going to leave it alone for now because that's another can of worms that could go on for another 5 forum pages and beyond.  

 

Also, weak analogy.  "If acguy promised to jump off a cliff" is more relevant to the discussion because in the analogy, you would be RLD and "jumping off a cliff" would be releasing the VI cosmetics.  Promising that someone else would jump off a cliff is introducing a 3rd entity to the situation when there are only two here in this analogy - RLD and the community.  I count 2 entities.  Math. You should be good at it considering your expertise in pre-math.

So it is not immoral because it's not their promise? Would it not be moral to honor ADH's previous agreement with the community regarding VI cosmetics considering it's still the same game, Hawken? VI purchasers names are enshrined in the credits of the game after all.

The [bracketed claims] weren't things I intended to convey, I was referring to ADH and the players they'd be distributing the VI to.

It isn't an analogy, it's an example of a promise being broken by someone who did not make the promise. Is it not an example of that?

 

I would say "it is not immoral because it's not their promise" on the condition that you don't take the word "because" to imply that the given reason is the lone reason for why it's not immoral.

I directly asked the community "hey, where's the meta at anyways? Is it more mech related or more items/internals related?" a long while ago, and was told at the time that it totally didn't matter and that the game was totally balanced. Not really to blame there. Haven't used sharpie in some time.

Well, insult is the tool of the loser in an argument.

 

If something is promised, then it is not necessarily good to keep. Evidence: I can promise something bad. Thus, the fact that something is promised does not prove that the promise itself is good to keep.

And that's fine. I honestly can't stand the way curriculum is structured even in actual debate classes; students are shown fallacies and simply told "just don't do those things" as opposed to actually learning how to do things right. It's like learning math by being told how to not do it, it's weird. There is a difference between knowing how to banter and knowing how to be correct. If you're ever given the option between a debate class or a formal logic course, choose the latter. You'll like it more and it'll serve you more good.

Not everyone likes to read.

People should at least like to read science books and articles. Knowledge and trying to understand the world around you is very important.

 

As for the limited cosmetics, i'd prefer having all cosmetics available for purchase at all times, but it's not a big deal to me, since it's just cosmetics.

Having a limited exclusive mech or any other gameplay element would big deal to me, but the only instance of it (the vanguard) was solved a long time ago.

 

Also, when's the next dev update (not just matchmaker updates, though those are nice, too)?
