i also play Linux/OSS games, that don't run on proprietary M$ software.
it's fun.

recalling ut4 hype and toxxik hype just around here in community hawken forums
you need overwatch style aim assist, matchmaking that keeps you playing with other bads, and special ability buttons that ace enemy teams to keep the kids today engaged

I'd point out that non-casual shooters can certainly do well if supported by the right infrastructure, even if they have pretty much the same maps, weapons, and mechanics for 20 years. I would bet a pretty sizable percentage of the 600k people playing CSGO right now weren't even alive when de_dust was first drawn up.
If you need to point a finger at why Quake and UT clones and sequels do poorly while stuff like CoD, Overwatch, or CS do well, you need only look at the size of their budgets.

It's Elitist to say this but the reason is skill and effort needed to improove not the budget... Maybe this new quake will do better. Cs is aim shoot type of game as i understand it also CAMP CAMP CAMP.
