I don't want to argue the merits of lan gaming with you guys, but I just wanna say that this is a pipe dream that aint never gonna happen.  It's a free to play game that depends on people playing it online and to be connected to their store/servers. It would be impossible to accommodate offline lan play wile supporting the game, it would undermine everything that the game depends on to evolve and survive.

Every LAN I've been to in recent memory has been connected to the interwebs....   I dunno what everyone is talking about.

The point of a LAN is to get together with your friends, meet other gamers, talk some smack if you're so inclined, and play on a level field where latency has nothing to do with the result.

LoL is a F2P game that is fantastically popular at LAN events.  TF2 is F2P, and sees some attention.  There are more...  Dota_

Since the devs are interested in organised competitive play then LAN support is a given.  Hopefully server settings will allow unlocking of all items if due to some ridiculous logistical failure a net connection isn't available at a PC gaming event.

LAN and local servers is Australia would be very handy!
I'd love to try the beta on a local server cuz the lag on most servers is a ripe pain atm.

Hey, hey guys.

The Hawken devs have already said that community-run servers are already on the roadmap for Hawken. If you get the server software, you can now run your own servers. If you want those servers to be locked down to you and your buddies on a LAN, you will likely be able to do that (I would hope; maybe not day 1 of the server software being available, but when it's matured and debugged).

Agree about LAN.

Also, for examples of LAN games: all Source games, Diablo II, Torchlight 2, Dungeon Siege series, Minecraft...

Newer Source games like Portal 2 and L4D will probably take some fussing with as well as Killing Floor. I know Portal 2 does.

LAN is dead, everything needs a continuous internet connection these days.

*edit*
obligatory sadface :'(

Seems there is no longer any regard for LAN support now that consoles are so mainstream.

how to kill hawken in a few easy steps

1. implement lan

2. someone haxx0rz the game and releases a ''lan only option'' that has everything unlocked. every gun/skin/upgrade/what have you unlocked

3. someone makes the lan only hawken work with a program that basically makes it search online for people but tricks it in to thinking its lan (like xboxconnect)

4. Dead hawken

unfortunately as much as i love and miss lan games, i say NO LAN for hawken

Pretty much this.

F2P and an offline client are not compatible when the game depends on micro-transactions. When the Server client becomes available that's as close as you're going to get to traditional LAN. Just make sure you've got a reasonable Internet connection when you set up your LAN parties.

Having an option just to find games on a LAN would be good.  Kind of like how at QuakeCon Valve had a Steam server colocated there so everyone could use steam without fuzzy bunny the bandwith.

I support LAN also but i think it could be done like this: The LAN servers should be unranked servers where the XP, kills and all will not count so there would be no possibility of cheating this way clans would have the ability to create own controlled battles that would make a internal tournament possible and at the end the ability to run mods and change perks and so one would be a bless also ... now i'm almost thinking about a dedicated SDK package _ :D unless we can just use unreal own system anybody know _

I live on off-campus residence and sometimes the internet is super slow.
Count me in for LAN support too!
If this wasn't a free to play game, I'd still buy it.
