Huh huh huh huh. He said, anal.

Hah, you think your bio is boring, wait till they get to a senior programmer, that ones gunna be boring.  :P

10 write code
20 fix bug
30 goto 20

One thing, I don't know if you saw my post, but could you take the extra time to fix the backwards text and decals you get when you mirror the texture/part to the opposite side of the mech and floors in the base.  That drives me nutz, and yes someone noticed.

That kind of thing bothers me as well. "Fixing" the text would actually defeat the purpose of mirroring it though. :) Mirroring gives us twice the texture resolution over doing the entire thing unique. It saves us time as well obviously. Having said that, I try my best to not use numbers/letters on symmetrical pieces. We also have a made up language/font we can use that has characters you wouldn't know if they were mirrored or not. However, sometimes it's just a necessary evil. :D

Thanks for more insight, never thought about the loss of texture resolution.

Ohhh, so theres a secret alien language in Hawken.  Hrmm, going to have to take some time to look around for that.

Reminds me of Futurama.

Very cool and interesting ! And you sure did an awesome work, thanks for the hard work !
Edit :

Oh and your "mech creation process", wich part take more time_
Did you worked on the upcoming mech_ any difficulties / inside story on it (or about other mech)_ can't wait to see it in-game!

The high poly model takes the most time. Usually about 2 weeks.

The upcoming mech was actually a collaborative effort. Jonathan Lee did the high poly, I did the low poly and bakes, Nhat Nguyen did the texture. It's one of my favorites!

Cameron are you the one i talk to about the textures of the flat panel just under the upper sliding part of the C class arms (wings). That little pannel when viewed from the side of the mech goes see through. Where anywhere else its textured. This is something on every C class mech.

Could you take a screenshot_ I'm not seeing it.

Looking through them again this is just a brawler issue.

Ahh. Someone didn't think it was necessary to add geometry to the bottom of that part...

Thanks for the heads up.

The Geometry is there. Its just that one side that the Texture doesnt appear right so it appears see through. There is a panel just the one side (the outward facing face) is phantom texture. I tried to show that with the second image.

Here is a better image. you can see that on the other side of the mech that the geometry is there its just that the texturing of it is bugged. If you look at the side the ss was taken from you can see the geometry but all the one face that shows as see through.

Good stuff! Cameron your work is really excellent, keep it up!

Cool experience for me with 3D modelling: I learned 3D Studio Max when I was in highschool and learned to basic texture as well and make custom items for games, and some animation. I never took off with it, but it was what started me into my career path of today: I wanted to design paintball guns in 3DSmax, then discovered Autodesk Inventor, then became a journeyman machinist, CNC programmer and mechanical engineer with my own side business building guns! Been practicing Autodesk for 10+ years now and use it professionally on a regular basis, but it was really 3D Studio Max that first inspired me to learn 3D design... cool coincidence that it's owned by Autodesk now as well :D

PS, stoked to see the new mech!!!

It looks like the normals are reversed on that Brawler piece, so it's actually inside out.  I guess you could say that they are anything BUT normal.

Nope, just missing geo. Usually you can't see the bottom of that part so I guess they thought it wouldn't be seen.

We're fixing it now. Should be in next, next patch. ;)

Wow so I was incorrect about the normals... I guess you could say that I've lost face.
