Personally, I have come to love the current Heads-Up Display in Hawken. It seems a lot more interesting and realistic than the newer one that's going to be out with the Ascension update. I liked having my health displayed on a screen inside my mech cockpit, not just somehow floating in the air in front of me. Same goes for the fuel gauge as well. Also, the reticule in the middle of the screen was better than the newer one, too, in my opinion. For instance, I think that the gun heat indicator was much cooler (no pun intended) than the one in the Ascension video. It's little stuff like this that really gives Hawken its unique feel.

I guess I'm not asking to totally scrap the new HUD in favor of the old one, since lots of the newer people like it, but maybe Hawken should have an option to keep the old one for the sake of pleasing their veteran pilots. That's my opinion on the matter, anyways. I honestly don't like the idea of having to get used to the new HUD.

I agree partially. I like the new hud, but I'm not too keen with the health and fuel bars ...

Being as it's an actual physical change (with the little item indicators and all), I imagine it won't be an option any time soon, if at all. I'm looking forward to playing around with the new one, though I do understand how you feel. But, look at Tony Stark. He's got all his indicators floating around in front of him. =p It's not terribly unrealistic, in that sense.

I'm kinda hoping it can be customized a bit myself, like how you could choose the color on the old ones. That'd be pretty neat.

Yeah, it would. I can see where a couple of problems may arise from that, though. Make it TOO customizeable, and it's not really original anymore.

New HUD seems a little "in your face", but the old one is just too "out of the way".
Health bar was the main issue for me and then there is the mini map, they put that in a better place for sure, would be better if we could customize it to our preferences.

Not unrealistic_
NOT UNREALISTIC_!

Tony Stark is a super-genius who is years, nay, decades ahead of his time.
Tony Stark was literally programmed by a ridiculously advanced alien robot to be able to be smarter and more clever than any other human could possibly be so he could advance the entire human race before they ever would have reached that point normally.

All Starktech is unrealistic because isn't even supposed to be humanly possible to make tech like that. Starktech and the concepts of what it can do are the result of a Mary Sue genius character.

I like the old HUD. I like the unique way in Hawken, how they show the health bar fuel etc. Unlike other games, it is "in the cockpit" wich means it is not directly shown in your face like you wear a healmet.

But now they are going back to ancient computer games ages and remove it from the cockpit and just show it directly into your face. It feels like a big fat tape on your eye. It won't move, if you mech moves/dodges. It stays there like a stone. Also the Bars are ugly. Fuel shall be (like in cars) shown by a "circle" not a straight bar. Just like the Health bar. Before it was a wonderful screen moving in your cockpit. Now it's an ugly bar taped in your face. (I also enjoyed little lines instead of a full bar where every hitpoint removes one pixel of the bar. While the lines in the old HUD show around 20 HP depending on wich mech you play.)

For the abillity. Now we have a boring cooldown timer with numbers. I prefare this cool circle moving around my abillity sign wich shows how many % it is reloaded. Numbers are boring!

Also this hitmarker is annoying. Again, I like the yellow circle instead of another boring cross like battlefield, CoD, Combat arms and every other shooter in the world.

With this patch, hawken removes something unique it had before: This awesome HUD.

This, but honestly we will get used to it. And not having to cycle to check item CDs is an improvement.

NO, NO, NO ... new HUD is great but ... whats up with the freakin healt and fuel bars _! ... I imagine a Marketing guy and specialist in super casual gaming has demanded that the health bar must be the freakin main element of the game that sticks in your head beforeeverything else ... and of course they had to add a super vintage Symbol of a gas.station.pump to make it undoubtfully clear ..

I am waitung sooo long for this patch and it will be great, but did your designers just had a blackout when it came to the bars_

its obstracting the view ... wich cant be goal of an interface design

keep it up ^^

I absolutely love the health bar and fuel bar changes. Admittedly I feel they break the immersion but I'm not here for a mech sim, i'm here for a FPS and I like to know when I'm taking damage, this new health bar makes that far easier.

It's more about using Tony Stark, a fictional character who was born to be smarter than everyone else, as an example of what's realistic, when there so many better examples.

At this point I really don't need the health bar or fuel bar.  I kind of know from the sound of the hits how much damage I've taken.  Same w/ fuel.  It's only for weird stuff like falls or when a turret catches me unawares that I check.  Plus there's an alarm that runs off when  you're below 30% or something.  Likewise w/ the fuel I have an idea of how long I've been boosting and how far so don't need to look at it.

I'd be in favor of removing the health bar altogether as an option.

I know we have to keep it though otherwise there'd be people complaining about being "one shotted" or cheaters.

I am not a fan of the new hud in the least bit. One of the things I like most was how it felt like you were actually in a mech. The placement of all the hud icons on different parts of the mech, and how if you had camera shake on it would move with the mech. This was a really cool  and original concept because it felt like the hud was a part of the mech not just some icons thrown on a screen. Now it just kinda looks bleh. As for people not knowing how much hp was left or w/e, I don't see whats hard to figure out about "current hp/ total hp" not there is awkward bar thrown into the mix. Really hope there is a option to revert to the old one ( though it probably wont happen XD)

I hope we get to keep the colour customizing option with the new HUD. Helps with some immersion when you have your rig/desk/peripherals in the same colour. :P

Im not sure if I am wrong but it would seem the new hud is optimized for the oculus rift. I have a suspicion that what we consider to be the static garish bars in our faces probably move with peoples views in the OR. If thats the case I wish they optimized the hud for the 90% of the player base that just use a regular screen and kept oculus rift stuff as a seperate module only activated when in use. Thats all speculation though.
