I would imagine that using an item would automatically stop the ability.

Assuming that the infra-red is tied to the ability. Since the footage is unclear as to how the mech operates, there's a possibility that the infra-red is actually a weapon utility like Hellfire Lock-On, or Sabot Zoom-In.

I guess we'll just have to wait until they release details.

Man that teaser video reminded me of the original Metroid Prime for the gamecube/wii for two reasons:

Last Eco being so reminiscent to Tallon Overworld
Skip to 0:43

Spoiler

Predators heat-seeing ability/Samus's Thermal Visor
Skip to 10:30

I immediately thought of the Thermal Visor from Metroid Prime after watching the teaser. I also happened to have started an LP of the Metroid Prime Trilogy not long ago, so it's still pretty fresh in my mind.

Honestly, a lot of Hawken feels very similar to the Metroid Prime games..

Here are a few immediate similarities:

-Side dashing/dodge system
-Unlimited Ammunition (MP2 Excluded)
-Turn rate cap
-Hellfires (MP2's Seeker Missiles)
-Immersive Landscapes
-High-ish TTK
-Boosting (Boost Ball/Gravity Boost)
-Cockpit (Samus' helmet has a physical interior visible at all times)
-Radar
-Infra-Red/Thermal Vision

I'm a pretty hardcore fan of the games. There are very few things I obsess over but Metroid is my absolute biggest obsession.

My top obsessions would be:

-Metroid games
-Alien franchise
-Portal

My apartment is littered with Samus' gunships, Xenomorphs of all kinds, Portal Guns and Weighted Companion Cubes...

What I got from the vid:

B-class: "Predator"
Patrick chassis is back
Stealth ability with infrared
Visually disrupting AOE grenade item
Weapons_ unknown

EOC repeater for sure,
Maybe, no movement while cloaked_
and i think the visually disrupting thing was for drama and not a reveal.

Looking good though!!

Giving the predator the EOC....and the rumor is that its secondary is alter version of the EOC primary.

Anyone want to make a "yo dowg" meme for this_

I do not see the point of thermal vision when the maps are pretty well lit to begin with.  Although it is a cool idea, I still think it is kinda meh.  Still excited to see this mech though.

It could just be for fun, or to fit with the whole Predator theme of this mech. Or possibly it fits into some mysterious future plans that Adhesive has, like dark or foggy maps with low visibility.

The current maps are indeed well lit but this vision makes the mechs stand out from the surroundings.

This is where I wish ADH would let us know where they are going with the game. So instead of guessing.. we could actually know something =

So far my idea from closed beta was WAY off...  a fps moba hybrid =p

oh well heh

I agree with Xacius on a few points of speculation, as well as a few other people's. Looks like the ability may be a toggle, as we can still see the ability icon lit up while it is in ifrared vision mode. I thought it might also be possible that the infrared vision is maybe an alternate function on its secondary, similar to the zoom function on the sabot, but since we still see that ability icon lit up, i think it is safe to assume that it is on a toggle. Also, I can see the infrared vision being very useful if it allows you to see mechs through cover. That could really help you contribute to team fights by being able to better identify and terminate isolated enemied through the confusion and chaos of large battles.

I definitely think the ability's effectiveness may be contingent on movement, as many others have speculated. The loss of armor while moving is an interesting method of balance, if what we observe in the video in indeed indicative of that being a mechanic of the stealth mode. Perhaps you are "more" invisible when stationary, losing a bit of that stealth when moving.

Because this is obviously another kind of ambush vehicle, we can probably assume that its weaponry will be more burst-oriented, with maybe a mixture burst and dps primaries. From the video, looks like the secondary is similar to the eoc, but has a large explosion radius. Not sure if timed, or proximity, but prolly both. Be cool if the regular EOC was one of its primaries 8]

The new item most DEFINITELY looks like something that specifically debilitates the target's vision/HUD, which would makes since given the stealthy nature of the mech.

I'm very excited about this new mech. I've been waiting for a new one for a while, and it looks like this one won't dissapoint. I'm primarily a blue user in MTG, so im looking forward to pulling off some cool HUD interference grenade + EMP combos :]
