Does this mean servers/ping is going to be better_

Clans themselves shouldn't be affected - Steam doesn't have a clan functionality at the moment. Clan system is apparently going to be through the website here, unless plans have changed. I do hope that Hawken begins to use Steam servers, they're pretty nice, and if the functionality is properly implemented with steam works, it possibly could open the door for private/rented servers, maybe_ I wouldn't hold my breath on that front too much, though.

I posted this on Twitter earlier but I'll elaborate here as well. Think of Steam right now as a replacement for our Launcher. We won't be maintaining the Launcher nor bringing it back up (farewell old friend...). Steam becomes primarily a method of distribution for us. The only other thing changing right now that is client specific is the ability to use your Steam Wallet for MC purchases (once sales of MC resume).

This is great!  I just hope they don't rush this, because if they do, negative affects can alter the opinions of the current steam peeps.  Anyway.....  It stinks there's a 24 hour delay.... I won't be able to shoot a mech for 24 hours!  :P

So, is it a good idea to just uninstall the launcher and installer now_

Yes. It will not be used anymore.

I swear, as with the Hawken alpha invite, the Tribes Ascend Beta invite, and the MechWarrior Online beta invite, this email is going to appear in my inbox during the middle of my work day and it will be the only thing on my mind for the rest of that day... frack me and my hour and a half commute.

WOOOOOT   can't wait for the new influx of players!!! Hopefully this will breathe new life into the game, as I felt it was becoming stagnant. I can see some of our stubborn player base leaving because of Steam being a new requirement, unfortunately for them I feel that Steam -IS- PC gaming, and that it's pretty much a requirement if you plan on taking PC gaming seriously. I already integrated Steam with the Hawken client and it works marvelously, so I have to say this was sort of expected. Love [HWK], and can't wait to play with the new balancing! Keep up the good work!!!

Will Steam also feature Hawken Stat's on the user's page. Achievements were kind of an after-thought and not the real reason for playing the game. But the stats of K/D ratios and things like that on the Steam page would be nice.

Steam is an invasive program in the operating system causing a noticeable performance impact to increase security, and in some cases cause severe problems, I guess it's a desperate sacrifice to get players hawken has not fared well lately .. ....

Hawken on Steam is an Arrival.
No stink of desperation about it.

This announcement is the fuzzy bunny bomb

Bit like today finding out about Hawken transitioning to Steam. What actually happened____ Last sign before the cats onslaught  is slight movement of his tail (not good) then "Whammo" All over. I love the look on the little guys face after the "Cat Attack". he was thinking. What the hell  just happened_____

for those with steam issues,

a SSD usually clears up the issue.

Oh yeah, let me just pony up $100+ out of thin air to replace my internal HDD with a much smaller capacity SSD just to play one game because of Steam. Thanks Steam!

(not that this is a problem I'm currently faced with, but you should get that SSDs aren't like over-the-counter medicine everyone can buy...)
Well worth the upgrade. It will make Hawken run a lot smoother too. A whole lot less stuttering. You could get a brand new 120GB SATA III for about $70-80.

Not everyone can just drop money on an SSD immediately, nor will they want to just for 1 single game. SSDs also have marginal performance effects besides shortened boot-up times and file accessing/moving. They're great for starting things up fast, but it's going to do very little for something that performance relies mainly on GPU and CPU processing power.

That is what I thought too. Trust me if you have an older system the SSD is going to be worth ever penny. There is no point in getting the newest and best CPU and GPU if you are going to be bottleneck by HDD. My cousin's computer of a few years now notice worthy improvement to his computing and gaming experience with and SSD upgrade. His setup was an AMD Phenom ii x4 955 black edition, 4GB RAM, AMD HD 5850 1GB, and a 1TB HDD. His Hawken experience when upgraded to the SSD went from stuttering and borderline unplayable to being playable at medium settings averaging about 60fps with some minor graphic tweaks. The overall experience is smooth. With the HDD even if his computers gets decent fps there would be some kind of stutter going on that is comparable to playing at really low fps. This video basically shows what I'm talking about.

Steam SUCKS. This is a horrible mistake. You worthless paid shills need to stick up your azz.

If you have a machine that is capable of playing Hawken, and you don't use Steam, then...  why not_ Steam certainly does not suck. /r/pcmasterrace reporting in...

I have to worry about running out of RAM, as I'm still on WinXP 32 bit and can only utilize 2 gigs of RAM. I hope it'll be possible to run Hawken without running Steam, assuming my client is up to the latest patch. That's what I do with quite a few "Steam" games.

Otherwise I think a move to Steam distribution is a great idea. You guys should to make as big an impact as possible though, because you only get to be on the front-page once.

XP can handle a max of 3.5GB of 4GB in a system due to 32bit memory addresses. Install more ram and you will be fine.

I can't believe this. Can't stand Steam! Huge downloads at slow pace, bloats and takes up bandwidth, monitors you like a government... and the cry goes on.. wa wa waaa :(

It makes sense that this came as a complete surprise to us all and was not previously made public (or if I was I did not see it).

What's done is done supose!

Bad move HAWKEN, but then again I get the impression you're done with the game and have handed it over to a caretaker in order to move on.
