Clans themselves shouldn't be affected - Steam doesn't have a clan functionality at the moment. Clan system is apparently going to be through the website here, unless plans have changed. I do hope that Hawken begins to use Steam servers, they're pretty nice, and if the functionality is properly implemented with steam works, it possibly could open the door for private/rented servers, maybe_ I wouldn't hold my breath on that front too much, though.

Will Steam also feature Hawken Stat's on the user's page. Achievements were kind of an after-thought and not the real reason for playing the game. But the stats of K/D ratios and things like that on the Steam page would be nice.

Hawken on Steam is an Arrival.
No stink of desperation about it.
This announcement is the fuzzy bunny bomb

Bit like today finding out about Hawken transitioning to Steam. What actually happened____ Last sign before the cats onslaught is slight movement of his tail (not good) then "Whammo" All over. I love the look on the little guys face after the "Cat Attack". he was thinking. What the hell just happened_____

a SSD usually clears up the issue.
Oh yeah, let me just pony up $100+ out of thin air to replace my internal HDD with a much smaller capacity SSD just to play one game because of Steam. Thanks Steam!
(not that this is a problem I'm currently faced with, but you should get that SSDs aren't like over-the-counter medicine everyone can buy...)
Not everyone can just drop money on an SSD immediately, nor will they want to just for 1 single game. SSDs also have marginal performance effects besides shortened boot-up times and file accessing/moving. They're great for starting things up fast, but it's going to do very little for something that performance relies mainly on GPU and CPU processing power.
That is what I thought too. Trust me if you have an older system the SSD is going to be worth ever penny. There is no point in getting the newest and best CPU and GPU if you are going to be bottleneck by HDD. My cousin's computer of a few years now notice worthy improvement to his computing and gaming experience with and SSD upgrade. His setup was an AMD Phenom ii x4 955 black edition, 4GB RAM, AMD HD 5850 1GB, and a 1TB HDD. His Hawken experience when upgraded to the SSD went from stuttering and borderline unplayable to being playable at medium settings averaging about 60fps with some minor graphic tweaks. The overall experience is smooth. With the HDD even if his computers gets decent fps there would be some kind of stutter going on that is comparable to playing at really low fps. This video basically shows what I'm talking about.

Otherwise I think a move to Steam distribution is a great idea. You guys should to make as big an impact as possible though, because you only get to be on the front-page once.

XP can handle a max of 3.5GB of 4GB in a system due to 32bit memory addresses. Install more ram and you will be fine.

It makes sense that this came as a complete surprise to us all and was not previously made public (or if I was I did not see it).
What's done is done supose!
Bad move HAWKEN, but then again I get the impression you're done with the game and have handed it over to a caretaker in order to move on.
