So I know boosting, flying, weapons fire, being in line of sight (and not invisible), and being in range of a scanner (regardless of visibility) all cause you to show up on radar. Does dodging make you show up_ What about repairing yourself, repairing others (for engineer), or turret mode_ I haven't noticed yet if these affect it. Is there anything else I'm missing_

Dodging will make you show up, repairing will not, just being in turret mode will not.

Boosting, Hovering, Shooting, Dodging, Being on the enemy's FOV (All the previous ones are limited to your radar's range), Being in the enemy's radar scanner covered area, being on the enemy's teammate's radar for one of the already listed reasons.

I was writing my toughs but with the replies I would like to ask a similar question:

Sometimes I see a red bar to indicate the enemy off radar. When does this happen_ Shooting, boosting, dodging,..._

Spoiler

Explain, I didn't get it. You mean when the enemy is outside of your radar range (the mini map)_ like when you see him as a bad and not a dot_

If that's the question then I suppose it's for the same other reasons and MOSTLY the radar scanner and the teammates' radars.

Last i checked all this video is accurate.

So basically everything you do will generate a radar signature. However that signature has different size on what exactly you are doing. Shooting will generate the most and repairing is a close second to last after walking.

Click me! I dare you.

Shooting, boosting, dodging or hovering will light you up on radar no matter what, radars have an immediate scan range and then a long-range scan indicated by the little white or red lines that circle around the outside of the radar.

Repairing does not cause you to appear on radar whatsoever, walking is only visible on radar when a target is within LOS.

I believe this is only true if the technician is actively healing damage, though.  Otherwise, no radar, just a really loud sound.

Ah so it's not just LoS but being in the highlighted FoV that makes you visible on radar, and even then you have to at least be moving. Very very useful answers all around. Lots of useful stuff to chew on. Thanks guys! :)

I'm glad someone made this thread, because I always wondered if charging a weapon like the EOC or revving the vulcan triggers a radar signature. Anyone know_

I may have brain damage, but at least I don't have brain damage

Charging the EOC definitely does not.  Not sure about Vulcan. So far as I know, you only show up on radar if you're generating heat, at least when it comes to weapon fire (huge exception for the Incin, which can create a signature while losing heat thanks to the SAARE). Does revving the Vulcan generate heat_

I do not believe revving does. Pretty sure you only show up once you fire.

To simplify, you generally only show up on radar under four circumstances:

1) If you are generating heat.
2) If you are spending fuel.
3) If you are within an enemy's cone of vision (regardless of being cloaked or not, in the case of Infiltrator and Predator).
4) If you are within the radius of an enemy Portable Scanner.

Yeah I figured on those generalities, but then dodging fits under none of them which made it odd. It would be really nice if the tutorials once things are no longer "beta" would give a solid description of this stuff. I was boosting around everywhere all the time until I happened on a thread here talking about boosting giving away your position. I didn't even know you could hide it without stealth up to that point. Now I'm constantly looking for new ways to hide or draw attention to me.

I like the strategy of it, new players just need to be made aware of it and need a resource that gives them the full rundown of abilities to manipulate it one way or the other.

The worst thing that shows up on radar is the G2Raider ability.  It really should have been fixed after its release.  If that could be fixed it would have a role as a good flanking mech.  Without the ability you can't move anywhere fast enough to be effective without being noticed and swarmed by yourself.

Yes generally I agree. G2Raider showing up on radar even though it technically is not boosting but only walking is bad.

You will also show up on the radar of the entire enemy team if one of them highlights you (the "Enemy Spotted" thing).

It sounded like the OP may still be a little confused about regular walking within the minimap/radar of enemies.  You will only show up when walking if you step directly into their line of sight (where your mech can be seen on their monitor).

And thanks to PoopSlinger for the heads up about the G2 Raider bug.  I did not know that and it explains a lot.
