Played some great games tonight with Surgat, Maxibon and Reznog. I was certainly not playing my A game but I had fun all the same. Servers are looking bare right now but the games are there to be had if you look for them.
Thanks guys!
I still love HAWKEN because of players like you.

Krelius: I don't feel inclined to play either, I spent two hours max in Hawken in last week. I too was feeling like "there has to be an update soon", but then this dev update came out.. anyway, to me it wasn't unexpected. Hawken currently has too many problems in the inside that affect the whole experience. It's exciting (and concrete) enough for me to know that they're fixing the backend, because they're probably fixing alot of stuff that makes me not want to play anymore. If they rolled out a new map instead, I'd be playing the map for a while, but then again I'd get angry at all the stuff that's broken and won't enjoy it. I personally just play TF2 these days, but I too keep my eye on things here. Hawken will always have a place in my heart.
Badb0y: Nice, in a week or two from now is faster than I expected.
Of course, some more problems might (IMO will) show up and delay that, but it seems the devs know what they're doing. Heck, they even admitted they have problems. As much as disappointing it can be to many players, it's also very calming to many other players, including me. It's so much better for me when devs announce that they're gonna take some time just for fixing stuff, rather than just pretend that everything's fine and keep making new content instead.
I work as a freelance web developer and when I feel like I have to rework some stuff, I too often get criticism. Some people are like "you want me to pay you for not adding anything new_" and I'm like "whatever, I wont rewrite anything if you dont want me to, but dont be mad when stuff gets broken beyond the possibility to fix, or when it takes weeks instead of few days to add new stuff, or when you hire a new dev and he tells you that all this stuff needs so much rework that he will rather start from scratch". Dealing with people on this matter is very frustrating, many people feel like that when a dev needs to rewrite something, then he's probably not a good dev. But the opposite is true, because a good dev will recognize repetitive patterns in code, or inconsistency in API, or simply a badly composed code that seemed like a good idea in the past, but is not a sufficient solution for current needs, and fixing that needs time (money). But ignoring the problem will most probably develop even bigger problems in the future and fixing them needs even more time (more money). Further ignoring that will ultimately cost so much time (money), that it would be much easier to just trash all the work and start over (or bankrupt). And we don't want that to happen to Hawken, do we_
Keep it up devs, I know it's not easy, but I also know this decision is a good one.

in an effort to keep the promise of releasing the Development Update this week,
he worked outside office hours and spent countless time trying to figure out the best way to communicate with us.
The final letter is indeed a transparent piece, I really felt the sense of relief when at the end of the letter he finally closed the Hawken chapter and move on to more pleasing matters. In my mind that image of the loved one at the dinner table with soft light and pizza is lovely. Awww

I would not have spent a Saturday, writing a work related letter.
I would have posted Friday, in office hours, writing something like this:

Hello everyone.
We are still working hard on migrating databases.
The task is harder than anticipated since new issues have emerged and have delayed our internal time-line. We are however positive and confident, our goal is giving you a completely smooth and invisible migration and we will take all the time we need to do that, so be patient please.
At this time we can't share details of what is coming, but we hope in a couple of weeks to put the migration behind us and start to talk about what is next for Hawken.
In the meantime we will try our best in being active in the forum and solving all the minor issues (like the recent test drives issue) that we will see on the forum.
Once again thank you for your support, stay positive and be patient.
Time spent on this: 10-15 min.
Promise kept.
Free Saturday.
Enojy.
No thankyou, that makes them sound like machines. I would much rather hear what they said. You not being an artist wouldn't understand. They are people too, with emotions and feelings. Its REALLY hard to do work when EVERYTHING you do seems to be critisized and unliked by everyone. Thats the impression they get when a bunch of unthinking idiots post. Its hard on them and that was a cry from the soul.
