Didn't we do this to death before_ It was pretty clear then what the beta-base wanted, but let the devs make some money first before they begin giving Steam a cut. :P
Reason as my minor ego, and opposite my desire to be a murderer.
A coagulated, gloomy thinking in the intelligence, as my major ego.
An antinomian theorem of behaviorism, in all of my thinkings.
It's what we call "The Inversion Impulse."

This is just a continuation of the former allowing new choices and a larger player database.
The poll is just an information tool. The more opinions collected the more valuable the data.
The dev's can take this poll as a standalone or add it to previous values.

I haven't seen much in the way of votes for a Machinima launch so far...
Makes me think that it isn't he way to go for a 12/12/12 launch... At least not exclusively.

  • No (6 votes [31.58%])

My only concern is that if this game is added to Steam, a distribution system that I love dearly, the community will fall flat on its face and start foaming at the mouth.

Perhaps I should be more direct, when Team Fortress 2 went down the F2P path its community began to degrade over time, which is understandable. When a highly popular title begins to advertise a no-payment-required approach, a large number of inexperienced people will flock to it, which provides opportunities for Valve to make money, the community to flourish and for new players to learn about the game.

Then Tribes Ascend was added to the Steam legion and extremely quickly, those that had joined Steam for the sake of TF2 stampeded over to that game because it was also Free to Play. That game then began the process of decay. Those that had joined for Team Fortress 2 expected Tribes to be just like it, and I know that I'm profiling here, but it's a correlation that I've seen come up a lot.

I'd really like to see Hawken adopt a stand-alone stance on this matter, even if it is just to test my hypothosis and it's past trends. It'd be a real shame seeing this fantastic game get "dumbed down" by a mass of overly-demanding people that refuse to incorporate Hawken's dynamic gamestyle into their personal experience.

I'm not saying that joining Steam would be a poor decision on the Developers' part, but it would be nice to see this game stand on it's own two mechanical legs, so to speak.
Do I look like a reasonable man, or a peppermint nightmare_

World of Tanks is standalone (at least I have not seen it offered on a platform) and I never have too wait for a battle and have had good games 99.99% of time. Only once or twice having too remove trouble makers which can be done with a single shot from the right tank or position :)

I will play Hawken whether standalone platform or Steam.

I prefer standalone, cause steams business model can become very heavy to small studio like adhesive games. Giving something like 30% is a quite lot of money.

I never understood the purpose of steam, or other services like it, other than making the game dependent on it for little to no benefit. what does it add that in-game tools can't_

The main thing I get is having 250 of the people I've met over the last 7 years gaming on steam, and RL friends all on one list.  It's easy to stay in touch, join games they are in, and not have to add them to other friend services.  The overlay is convenient, the updates are easy on the client end, and I can see what games everyone is playing.  The friends that have Hawken installed are sorted into their own little group so I can easily harass people for company or shoot the buzzy funny about things I've noticed.  At the very least, a working overlay would be nice.

It essentially adds nothing that in game tools can't, but the 150 games I have on Steam means 149 fewer in game tools to worry about.  The good sale prices keep me from pirating lots of stuff, and I end up supporting the game industry to a greater extent than I otherwise would.

That said, I haven't touched origin yet and don't intend to.

God I hate Steam.. It's like a black hole for spam when I just want to play a game.

"Play this game with me."
"Play on this server with me."
"i r teh 1337 i pwn u any game."
"Bill, is that you_"
"Join my clan for this game."
"Join my clan for that game."
"Are you the same guy from this game_"
"Now you can get this game you've never heard of before for 20% off! BUY IT!"

#$&% off! I just want to play leave me alone!  .... Yeah, I would avoid this game on steam. -.-

Personally I think Steam is an excellent route to go.

Seriously look at the poll results.

The players want Steam. Can you blame them_ Steam is probably the best known globally.

Why not Steam_ if nothing else is is the most recognizable.
