My friends and I used to play deathmatch on Doom and Halo and it was a blast! We would stay up all night just shooting each other.

 

I don't see that as a current option with Hawken. Am I missing it somewhere?

 

I would like to be able to host/create a local match that my friends (or anyone I allow) to join and play against each other. Nobody else. Nobody else can even see it.

 

If this already exists somewhere, please let me know.

You are not able to create matches on your own since every room is a server itself. You are able to purchase one for a huge amount of money, wouldn't recommend that.
Deathmatch is the "One Man Army" mode. Everyone vs everyone.
True 1v1s aka duels are not officially ingame, atleast not as a mode.

However, there are custom fightclubs and tournaments with 1v1s.
If you tell me where you play (EU, NA) I can tell you who to contact to still your thirst for bloory duels.
