Game mechanic for grenades that absolutely NEEDS to be fixed for next client-side update.

So, after double-checking, I can say that grenades are the ONLY secondary weapon that disappear instantly after death. By this, I mean that if you shoot a grenade and you die, it disappears instantly and is not able to cause damage afterwards.

All other weapons (including the TOW, KLA, non-locked-on Hellfires, EOC, and Sabot) continue to exist and are able to cause damage after or upon death. The only exception to this is if a grenade touches a static object (bounces off a wall or floor), then it will continue to bounce, after you die, until a timer causes it to detonate. This is hardly fair, and only happens mostly by sheer fluke.

I strongly suggest that the next client update/patch needs to include this change by making the grenade continue to exist after death until the timer causes it to detonate, non-withstanding whether it touches a static object or not.

Interesting that it doesn't disappear upon death if it has bounced off something but disappears otherwise. Agree this should be fixed.

This actually happens? Damn, that would explain a lot when I fire a grenade and think I'll do damage or get a kill from the delayed detonation but nothing happens.

So, if I shoot a grenade at you and you shoot a TOW at me and I die first, but you're saved simply by a illogical game mechanic, the best solution is for the me "Git Gud"? Damn, that's a high-level thought process right there.

AFAIK and IIRC, it happens with everything (weapons and items), the child object gets destroyed* in the very moment your mech* dies*.

 

Although... with an exception, IIRC.. The EMP item.

 

Edit: Or was that due to lag? - Check it yourself, if you wish.. ;) - Nevertheless I can understand how the OP feels on this. Man or woman may feel somehow a little bit fustrated because of this during a match. Ergo an open and more than valid discussion, IMO.

No it doesn't. coldform and I did a test to confirm that grenades are the only secondary that disappear.

No, no. coldform and I did a test to confirm this. There were witnesses. I can do another test and record it if so required.

There's ALOT that needs to be fixed for the next client side update, but a disappearing grenade that would have killed my opponent as well in case it was launched prior to my mechs demise, would score a direct hit and my opponents health would be low enough, is in my oppinion not really a MUST and should not even be high on any to do list.

Might be different for league play but as a casual gamer I'd go with: "Hawken got 99 problems, but a grenade disappearing after death is not one of them."

No, youre absolutely correct. There are much more pressing, universal fixes, i.e. sticky walls, sticky floors, menu UI, the P4P4, the large SAARE, orbs, ISMs, and WORST SHOTGUN to name a few. As irritating as the dropped nades are, they only negatively affect about 30% of the mechs in game and I say this as someone who mains them.

Am I in 4chan?, are you some kind of $hit poster? or maybe the new armored (a$$)clown...

 

Now back to the matter at hand. I didn't know that the grenades disappear after you died. I have killed a lot of people after death with my grenades, guess they bounced so the game didn't despawn them. This should be fixed asap (along with tons of glitches and balanced issues), nothing like killing after death for sweet revenge.

Might be slightly off-topic but another problem with the secondaries is the predator mines, sometimes they are impossible to destroy even though it appears they detonate off when someone shoots at them, this makes a big balance issue when people walk over them assuming they aren't there anymore, very easy to score cheap kills this way especially in maps like uptown.

THIS explains, why I respawned and immediately got a kill out of nothing a couple of times.

I thought this bug (which is what I think it is) had been documented and established a long time ago.  It is super frustrating and I think should be high on a list of fixes.  I feel like I remember there being other weapons that immediately disappear upon death as well, but I cannot be sure what those are.

I'm not sure if it was upon death, but I do remember the plain old disappearing tow bug where it would vanish into plain air..... :wacko:

We just tested it with Kopra, and no, your nades do not disappear after you die, bounce or not. And they do deal damage perfectly fine.

 

So the OP is a big fat phony. Y'all have been fooled.

Sorry Max, nope.

 

From experience I can say that a lot of my last nades fired before dying - which would get me a revenge kill - disappear. So I agree with the OP. Also when the nade bounces it won't. Reminds me of that issues one had with the cloak of the inf which disengaged after getting hits. For some it might work for some not. (?)

Reminds me of that issues one had with the cloak of the inf which disengaged after getting hits. For some it might work for some not. (?)

We just tested it. They don't disappear.

Nothing weird is going on. It's just some people don't understand how the client-server thingy works, that is all. If you shoot your nade and die before [your ping milliseconds] pass, your shot won't register.

^In which case it can most certainly be different from one player's experience to the next.

 

It is my most certain experience that I can push the button, watch my grenade come out of its launcher and head on its merry way, directly towards my target... then, 2-3 seconds (not milliseconds) later, watch it disappear from existence at the exact moment my client registers the loss of my last point of health.

 

It happens - and I know it happens to not only me, but others.  As with all online games, your individual experience may vary.

Locked-on hellfires drop out of the sky and disappear. Non-locked-on ones don't disappear.

There may very well be many other primary weapons that disappear, but I was only focusing on secondary weapons. I also didn't include the Helix Repair Torch in my test because that's pretty self-explanatory.

dermax is right. I thought that my nades were doing this but ended up just being packet loss and a very high ping causing me to have a delayed death.
