Hmm, I don't see any hatred of women going on here. Maybe some objectification, but then what was Brie's intent by posing for Maxim and taking on roles designed to play off of her "hotness"? She defined herself as a sex symbol. If she is fine with that, then why shouldn't people appreciate her efforts?

They regularly acknowledged this on Community, going so far as to sarcastically state in one episode that they (the characters) try not to sexualize Annie because of her age while blatantly using her physical attributes as punchlines in other episides. While this is objectification of women to some degree, that show equally objectified men using Jeff. They were aware of what they were doing and making fun of it at the same time, so meta. It's a slippery slope though I suppose...

I think the main issue is that the scenes in those .gifs aren't contextualized like they are in the show itself--I don't watch Community, but from the time I've spent looking into this, it seems that it parodies Annie's objectification like you said. That's not being communicated though, and to someone with no outside information, the images are basically just some woman's boobs with overlaid TS info referring to them. I really doubt it was your intent, but it's definitely possible to derive something misogynistic from nonsexist content by selectively removing context.

well said, and as a fan of the show (and brie) i love the joke... and of course enjoy the images.  

 

girls are pretty.  some guys are too.  

 

i like pretty things and robots... and pirates with superpowers.

yeah, that's what i was worried about...  i don't want to be chasing people away with a bad impression.  even though i'm just as guilty, i sometimes forget the audience...  we are an adult clan however.  so adult themes can be expected, as can adult sensibilities and damn i'm stoned... it's time to blow up robots...

I mean don't get me wrong, I like attractive people too, but there's a time and a place for it and I don't really think the .gifs are promoting the inclusive atmosphere this clan is going for. Gaming communities tend to be pretty hostile to women (though this one is thankfully a lot better than most) and an image in the main post that could be interpreted in an objectifying way is just more fuzzy bunny to deal with that could discourage them from getting involved. I personally vote for the monkey

I honestly didn't intend for anyone to vote on anything or imply that what is was going on lol.

However, this is all good feedback and Jeff makes some good points (as usual) and he's right about promoting an inclusive atmosphere. So, as far as the thread goes I think we should put the monkey on the first post. That's what was originally on the TS channel and it still serves as an homage to the original joke from the show.
