Hi, and happy labour day :),
here's (again) some suggestions and mock-up for the garage.
  • Mech Presets : slots counts limited to 4 per mech, Presets can be accessed during in-game garage, but can be edited only off-game. slots cost MC or HC.

    Each preset can store any customization of a specific mech, from cammo, optimizations, weapons, items, body-parts, etc..

    If available to a mech, presets menu selection can be displayed thru a new numbered button displayed in the lower left corner of the mech thumbnail.
  • Avanced mech stats display option : for numbers freaks, and live display internals effects
  • Compare button : compare effects of the current selected item (ie internal) with another one of the same list.
  • Test Mech button : Drop you in a a training ground area with random spawning mechs and drones.For testing new weapons and mech set-up efficiency in a controlled environement.
  • Sort list : Choose between One, two or three column display, or list view. available for mech
  • New low-cost and consuming over-time internals : for quick testing at low price various internals combinaison, Used internals can be repaired, sold or traded. worn-out internals make the mech emit smoke and fire in the garage (like if it was damaged) - but not on the field.
  • Full controller support : because this game is very cool to play with a controller
Pics (I would have prefered the overall style and look to match : like stuffs posted there, but 'was lazy making it looks better/gritty )  for now i focus on features and ease of use.

New customisations (pick the one you like/don't)  :
  • Mech parts customisable with decals
  • Audible mech taunt : Battleship honk
  • Garage pose: Spice up the top-players end match screen
  • HUD : Head-up display style and color
  • Kill-cam FX : Custom audio track and pilot stats display during the kill-cam of your victim

I really like the stat information but the weapons/items/etc. seem a bit cluttered to me.

Pretty cluttered looking UI, but I support the idea of more info.

Looks a little scary for a new player. Old mech games that had all these menus with numbers often scared away potential players.

Perhaps keep a similar UI to what is in the game now, but an extra tab with a basic graph showing core stats then an advanced button underneath the graph that shows the detailed layout of the stats. Its a pain to get to when changing numbers, but its hidden enough not to be scary. Its certainly better then testing the numbers yourself like now. lol

A suggestion: Make the more detailed specs a collapsable/optional menu, that way the new and casual players wouldn't get everything dropped on them at once, but it'd be there if they went looking for it. And that way the UI looks generally less cluttered and only gets cluttered when you want to access the information.

I love the amount of information you got to fit on one page, but it is too much information.  A new player would look at this and just be confused.  I think a dashboard interface for the basic information and loadout stuff would be sufficient, but once you select what you are modifying you could get more information on that equipment slot.  A tab for specifications would work too.  New players need a simple interface with which to get familiar, but the pros want to min/max and see all the information.  By the time they become pro, they would be committed enough to the game to click a couple more time to find the information they want, a new player will judge the game hard based on their initial use of the interface.

Aesthetically, I like the top bar and it's flatness, but I'm not sure it fits hawken so well.  It's just a mock-up, I know, but thought I'd mention it.

It doesn't feel totally immersive, the holographic UI you posted on my topic about garage UIs looked a lot more immersive than this, but this is a lot more readable in my opinion.

Also, for the items, I think you could order them like this to avoid line breaks and keeping each category in it's own box:

Love love love the amount off information and the layout... Except it's kind of like a information slap in the face if your new (like me) and have no idea where you ever got the info from.... I think I need to take a closer look at the current garage. And I really like the idea of comparing..

I do have one question though, would the stats on the side (walk speed, dogde delay, ect.) show the effects of your optimization tree of just the "purchase values" for lack of a better descriptive term.

Can you actually get a part time job at meteor or adhesive for UI art_ They do want more people to work and with you they could make some really cool stuff.

well I sure did send an e-mail about this dream job oportunity, but things are a bit complex since i'm in france, have a job, sucks in engrish etc..
But I would really really love being more seriously part of this uber-awesome-adventure and team :P
