Can't wait! I wonder if you have to unlock it by encounter, or if the devs plan to randomize what wave he appears on in that new multiplayer practice mode! So excite my abs are twitching!

As awesome as this looks, I'm still trying to figure out how much use thermal vision has in this game...

-Seeing through holograms
-Seeing other cloaked mechs (only 2 variants)
-Spotting mechs from a distance

Other than in these situations, I've never found it particularly hard to spot mechs... Wicked design though.

It was stated they're fixing the radar "god mode" for tuned mechs in this patch - I'd imagine thermal vision would really help seeing mechs at a distance.  It's not too hard (for me, at least) when sniping to pick things up by eye, but this would make it a lot easier to spot.

Man, yeah, I'm hoping the Beyblade item is a chaff grenade.  That would be awesome.

The mech's ability seems to grant the user invisibility, as well as Infrared Vision.  The ability seems toggleable (no cooldown, game files also indicate that the ability has a longer duration than its cooldown, so it's probably been modified from this design). We can probably assume that it's the first non-turret mode mech capable of toggling a special ability, except it will be more useful by actually having an ability with a functional purpose.

Most of the clips were of the mech standing still.  Given that it would be incredibly overpowered if it was granted permanent invisibility, the design is probably going to be balanced by hampering the mech's combat abilities while the ability is active, or removing the cloak as soon as the player starts moving or takes damage, with the latter of the two being the most plausible implementation.

It also could be cooldown based. Activate -> get stealth until movement / take dmg -> cooldown trigger. Looks like he can definately attack while stealthed. No dot on the map in the video as the attack begins.

The red globs on the rock near the end of the video indicate a mine-laying mechanism similar to the EOC.

Guess so too. Maybe you can also detonate your mines manually with this weapon. And the mines seem to be bigger as EOC ones with a bigger AoE radius. Maybe you can shoot a small minefield instead of single (triple) mines (eoc).

death of rick = ok fred, i cheat.
an Assassin Mech! I love it
invisible, radar-stealthed, no weapon-use exposure, nonlinear ballistics on the weapon, etc etc. so what's the Special Ability here_ 1500 hp impenetrable armor_
and what's the "counter mech" going to be, or the counter measure that renders this guy vulnerable to detection and attack, a-la SS's god-level weapons, and pitiful self defense_
Will this be the B-class or Fatty for the final bracket under the Reaper_

They might just changed the icon of some old item.

If the ability is Infrared thermography why are the mechs always hot_
It would be cooler (see what I did here) and more immersive if only boosting, shooting or overheated mechs would register as heat signatures. And if the parts of the maps would also emit heat, like steam vents or the sand at Bazaar.

Because of the engine that keeps mech functional, i think.

Oh, let's not make an artificial obstacles for this ability.

Machines put out heat while they are active, even when sitting idle. But since our mechs are running around, boosting, and shooting, it makes sense that they would be quite warm.

Plus, the temperature range on the thermal vision could be set fairly low, so warm objects appear brighter.

Why not_ Nothing is perfect. It would be funny to have false positives you need to memorise or use as a cover (like steam vents appearing as the Hidden, or bright red colored objects similar to the player skin in Urban Terror). Just an idea, not "forcing" it.

Certain objects on the map would be also register this way.

Hi guys!

Let me sum up my own observations real quick here:
Patrick Chassis
Cloak ability
Infravision (maybe merged with the cloak)
The explosive that looked like a frisbee-shaped drone to me. (frisbee would clarify the movement-pattern of the  "Beyblade" when it hits the ground and starts tumbling^^); icon for it in slot No.:1
another unknown item in slot 2

Most definitely the Patrick, as it was a:) mentioned to come out in the next update close to the end of October
and b:) all other mechs got wingmounts instead of arms at the present interation of Hawken.

best regards from the land of scientific research...

Ysen

I would bet that a mech stomping around in a forest at dusk would still be warmer than the environment. I was mostly thinking that this is why the mechs appear so bright. Even though they are only warm, the thermal view shows them as at the top of the temperature range.
