Well, in general, my Induction rifle works at a simple principle. He has his own supply of metal objects for shooting (in a large cylindrical tank, located below). Perhaps you little misunderstood me.
A main feature - heating own ammunition (metallic trash), passing through the barrel.
Magnetic power only used to shoot, not to a collect enemy ammo =D

You're right i guess i did misunderstand. I thought the metallic trash was collected from (theoretically) throughout the environment-- damaged and destroyed mechs/buildings, shell casings etc, along with it's own supply. And yeah District 9 is one of my all-time favorite scifi movies
