People that compared Hawken to CoD and
said things like "this is just CoD in a mech jacket" are going to say that even more now.  And basicaly
you guys don't know how to create a original "mech" game wich i as many people thought you guys were doing,
Instead, all you did was create another CoD in a mech jacket.
People who make this comparison are negativity-bandwagoners in my opinion.  The experience in Call of Duty doesn't even come close to that in Hawken.  The movement system is different, the engagement time is different, you can't one shot people... I just watch as when anyone in any game is unhappy with it they automatically call it out as a CoD clone.  Gawd, even Tribes Ascend couldn't escape this...

WOOOOOT   can't wait for the new influx of players!!! Hopefully this will breathe new life into the game, as I felt it was becoming stagnant. I can see some of our stubborn player base leaving because of Steam being a new requirement, unfortunately for them I feel that Steam -IS- PC gaming, and that it's pretty much a requirement if you plan on taking PC gaming seriously. I already integrated Steam with the Hawken client and it works marvelously, so I have to say this was sort of expected. Love [HWK], and can't wait to play with the new balancing! Keep up the good work!!!

I already launch the game through steam so i welcome hawken in to my game library, just waiting for my key to arrive and then all will be well :)

I wonder if new steam users will stare in awe at the alpha skin >.<

Wow, what a joke! Not enough confidense in your game and promotional skils, so you sell-out to Steam :D
+ the latest changes in TTK just showes that you guys (Adhesive) don't and didn't know
what you wanted to do with the game, what a shame.

These posts are just from accounts that have been made purely to encourage negativity in the forum. This guy only created his account today and has only made these two posts. If indeed it is/was his favorite game then he should have the balls to stand up and be counted rather than hiding behind secondary accounts. I suspect however, that he is has no other interest in the game other than seeing it fail. The earlier posts from H12kjfkjdfgO6 or whatever his name is are exactly the same.

They carry neither weight nor interest.

yes these are my first messages on the forum, i'm not interest in writing with people i've never seen. I just want to play with the old version 'cause this new ver. in my opinion is bad one.
maybe some site manager , reading this (and others) negative review will decide to come back to the old version.
until now, I played hawken everyday (level 23 old ver). I'm grate to the creators of hawken, which gave us a free amazing game, however i ihink that this version does not exalt their good intentions and disappoint many players.
[apologize for mistakes, i'm not english]

I precise i'm not against the "steam platform" or whatever it is, I'm against the changes to the mechs and the abolition of customization points

When you say 'old version,' do you mean pre Ascension, or post Ascension_ Because from what I have gathered, this is just like how the game was before the Ascension patch. So what 'old version,' of the game are you talking about, because most players didn't like the game after Ascension.

Gamer child prodigies like yourself... blah blah blah

Who the fuzzy bunny do you think you are calling a child_

I'm a well-traveled gentleman with cars, kids, and mortgages; who pays taxes, votes, carries a gun, and has lived enough years to have taught children to read and drive.
I'm no child to the likes of you.
I've played the ever loving truth out of online shooters for decades.
You might want to save your condescendence for someone who regards you as somebody. That isn't me.

What makes you think anybody cares what you have to say about your concerns with Steam, after addressing perfect strangers like you are the lone adult in the discussion, and calling me (your senior in any way that is measurable) a child_

With all due respect; you've lost the plot.
Your intellectual limitations have become manifest to your intended audience.

Furthermore, I'm going to do you the favor of telling you that you are wasting your time trying to convince anybody
that of all the software on the internet, Steam for crying out loud (!), poses any  threat to your pc's security and operation.

It is the most proven, established,  game launching and video game market client in the history of the world.

My advice to you is to get a grip on reality and perhaps, if you are at all capable, learn some respect.
Or men such as myself will have to teach you.

this is gonna be great :)

I hope they at least reimburse the HC we spent on Unlocking the actual levels and/or weapons(unless weapons keep their costs),
but not the MC spent on extra exp transferred.

can't wait to see how its all structured to get a better understanding

I have been playing Hawken since November 2012. And for the most part, I have been supportive of the game's direction since I believe that the devs only want to see it succeed. So while I have no objection to Hawken moving to Steam to garner a larger fanbase (and possibly more revenue to support the game's development), I am disappointed that the game will only be accessible through Steam from now on instead of giving players the option of choosing between the Steam option and a standalone option. I have read all of the anti-Steam posts in this thread so far, and while some may be trolling, others may be legitimate complaints.

I have used Steam since September 2008 when I purchased Audiosurf after seeing it featured in a column in PC Gamer. And the only concerns I had with the service had to do with the Steam client itself. As far as I know, the client needs to run before accessing any of your Steam-acquired games (I have my copy of Steam disabled from starting with Windows and if I launch one of my games, I have to sign in to Steam first). That itself wouldn't be an issue but if the Steam service becomes unavailable either due to maintenance or some other issue, you are barred from accessing your games until the service is restored. This is even for single player games acquired through Steam.

Now I read a few years ago that Valve designed Steam in a way that would allow games to run independently from Steam in the event that Valve ever discontinued Steam services, but I have no way of knowing if that was simply false reassurance or something they actually have in place. It certainly seems unfeasible now that Steam has amassed such a vast library of games, and so the question then becomes one concerning the full accessibility of those games. This is not an issue with standalone games before everything started moving to the cloud (yes, I'm one of the seemingly dwindling number of people who prefer physical mediums (books, movies, games, etc.) to everything only available in the cloud (where intellectual property rights are still somewhat muddled). Games that were designed for older OSes can be played either in the actual hardware/software environment they were meant to be played on, or through virtual machine or emulation software.

TLDR:
So my concerns are about principle than anything tangible. I have always disliked being required to go through an intermediary or third-party in order to play a game for the simple fact that if something fails on the third-party's side, the actual people responsible for the game have no way to remedy it themselves. Steam may very well be a top-tier distribution platform; the number of Steam users seems to back that up. But unforeseen problems can and do occur which is why I am reluctant to trust Steam with yet another game title I enjoy.

I'm in the same boat, with a twist: I don't use Steam. At all.
I don't want to, and I certainly don't like when companies/developers/whatnot try to force me to.

Just like Kordosa, I don't care if people want to use Steam.
What I care about is not having a choice.
There might be zillions of happy Steam users over the world, but that doesn't mean it *should* be the be all and end all of software distribution (this is of course also valid for other distribution frameworks, obviously to a lesser degree).

So no, I'm not happy about that change, nor its trend.

This is a great move for not only Hawken, but for gamers in general. With the new Steam machines rolling out soon Hawken will be accessible from your desktop PC to you TV and couch along with thousands of games already available on Steam.

Can't wait to get my key, figures right after i upgrade my vid card i'd have to wait patiently to play hawken!!  I also recall hearing all this anti-steam sentiment, but it was back in like 2004.  It's  a smart choice by the developer to move to steam as it gives incredible visibility as well as a very tried and tested distribution system.  Not to mention all the community features, people can take and share screenshots see when others are playing, potentially join on friends.  I'm pumped!
