Learn about the decision to make HAWKEN free-to-play in EDGE Magazine's interview with Creative Director Khang Le.

EDGE Magazine said:

Aside from expedition of a time-reliant process, or perhaps extra lives in whatever form they might take, one of the primary drivers for microtransaction spends among players is the desire to express themselves and stand out in a crowd that usually numbers in the millions. The mech game lends itself perfectly to this desire to tinker and customise. FarmVille players can take pride in a rare crop-giving plant, but Hawken players can ensure that their most recent victim knows exactly who bested them. Much more than that, it allows for players to tailor the game, through mech performance and ordnance load-out, around their own unique playstyle, embedding the process deeply within gameplay itself.

yeah I'm just glad the microtransactions are more cosmetic changes to stand out rather then overpowered weapons where people won't stand a chance unless they pay.

Agreed. Can not wait to have the most fabulously adorned mech in the land.
