Hey everyone,

 

I know for a fact that many Hawken vets are sitting on hundreds of thousands of Hawken credits. Some have closer to a million even. I don't think there's any way to help these veteran pilots sink their credits except for introducing a number of incredibly expensive pieces of decoration purchased for HC.

 

Do you think this would be a good idea?

A golden camo would be the best. I would totally save up for a month for that skin. You know it xD. Another good idea is the black market, where you have to do something special to access the page. We could keep it a secret and have a bunch of HC skins on there that cost an ungodly amount.

If they give out this expensive camo then maybe people wont think of buying mc .

Dude, if you can scratch up enough money for a 500K camo and not just buy meteor credits then go ahead. The amount of effort needed to scratch up 500K would cancel any gains, even for a skin. This is just for the veterans or extremely determined. Most people haven't even made that much money overall in all of their playing.

I am roughly 85% positive that most people with the means to purchase that camo have already sunk a hundred or more dollars into this game.

 

However - most of us who have that much available for use, have spent most of our money back when it went to ADH.

It could stray from the grimy theme and appear clean and pristine instead. You could change the actual materials to something more shiny, chrome parts and such.

500k is 350-400 hours or so at current HC gain rates, and that's assuming you don't spend anything you earn on mechs or items and internals. I'm not sure how I feel about the grind there and how it would put the camo out of reach for virtually every new player, especially if they choose to buy everything functional first. I think putting the price at around 150k is more reasonable, since that's about what it'd take to purchase one copy of every mech and is still a good bit over 100 hours of playtime for the average person.

 

FWIW I have 107k HC spare (and 905k total) on this account despite having 700 hours of playtime and only buying a couple duplicates and 50k worth of holos, and I'm 8th by number of kills. Granted, I'm probably getting kills a lot more quickly than most people, but I doubt it's so much faster as to put this within reach of anyone except hestoned, cond0m, and maybe a couple of other people who played a ton before the stat reset. 

 

I definitely agree that we need more credit sinks for people who've played forever though, and something like this would be great if the devs were reasonable about the cost.

CoD blops 2 had an ultra-ridiculous rhinestone (diamond, sure) studded camo for if you unlocked gold on every weapon in a class.  I feel like plain gold would be alright for one paintjob, but we need to go beyond gold in terms of ostentation.  I'm all for the $$$$ paintjob, but that might miff some non-US players.

 

Also, if it does exist, it should cover all the mech including the greebles, like how the cyan paintjob does.  Being a specular monstrosity is always good.

I'm certain someone (devs?) would eventually sharp-pencil this, but using the ISM Items MC/HC purchase equivalents:

$100 = 14,400MC

1MC = ~11.86574HC theoretically

14,400MC = 170,866.7HC (just for calculations)

conversely,

500,000HC = $292.63  Both of these cash amounts which ReLoaded will NOT garner from this transaction if it becomes "grindable".

I can see the skin being a cash purchase, but I'm of the opinion it'll be cold day in hell before it'll be grindable, just for the above reasons.  :P

How much is a camo that only a select few players will be able to afford going to actually affect their overall earnings? Most of the people with 100k-500k HC to spare have already spent a significant amount on the game anyway, so it's not like they'd be electing to get the special grindy camo instead of buying MC for normal cosmetics.

The whole point of cosmetics is that they don't affect the gameplay.

 

If you want to change your look, you should pay MC.

 

Game developers don't have a great deal of ways to monetize the game... At least leave cosmetics as pay-only.

How does this affect gameplay? It would be functionally identical to every other camo, so I'm not sure how it confers an advantage in any way. There are probably <5 players that could afford a cosmetic item for 500k and <50 that could afford one for 100-200k, and all of those people tend to already spend a good chunk of money on the game. I can't imagine the devs losing out on a significant amount of revenue by making a single camo purchasable for an obscene amount of HC.

not saying it would affect gameplay. what i'm saying is when something doesn't affect gameplay, make it purchasable with MC only and let the Devs get some revenue.

 

if you want recognition of game tenure then i'd be fine with awarding different avatar/icons as a time achievement. Camos/bling are worth money to the devs.

 

I'd love to see a way for users to submit custom camo and if you are chosen, you get it for free. others can then buy for MC.

Perhaps Devs can give you a few MC royalty on a custom camo that you can then spend on camos made by others.

That assumes that's how much the skin would actually be worth.

But creating a skin really wouldn't take that much time and effort. Especially if it was as simple as a gold skin. Given that they're rather easy to make, along with it being a rare opportunity, they can afford to have it grindable. It's not always a bad idea to make some cosmetics free.

And don't forget that long-term grind rewards keep people playing which increases the likelihood that they will purchase MC for some other reason.

Just look at warframe. They embraced The Grind. Grind is what people do in that game happily all the time.

 

The More people playing your game means more people spending real money. That is the main statistic. And Im not suggesting hawken should embrace grind here :] Does putting everything behind a paywall bring more players in or keep them in? These items at least would make veteran players to spend their hawken credits. They would have to earn more to buy holograms and so on..

Which I am sure , then what is the point of making this camo?
And do you really think its your uncle's game or something ??? Who the hell gives a fuzzy bunny to your hardwork ? All the devs give a fuzzy bunny to is the real money .
And like someone else said too that getting quarter million hc is impractical.
( unless if some idiots haven't spent any hc on loading up their mechs ) .

what about having a few cosmetics that already exist for >100k HC, with the available camos, taunts etc., switched out regularly changed up? or would that be a bad idea?
