Spectator mode caused us problems. I'd even go to that it cost us the first match. Neither I not Solo were able to join the match. Solo joined later after many many attempts.

I disagree and I reported this to Reloaded. Spectator has no impact on who can join a game. It was likely just coincidence that they could rejoin once Hyginos left.
Rob, Odin and Luna reported difficulty rejoining on TPG. Rejoining a game you just dropped out of has always given people problems. More likely, it is that the servers are in terrible condition and need to be normalized.

It's a known glitch with spectator, as Ash explained, and was the problem with why Solostarian couldn't rejoin until the moment spectator vacated the reservation.

Yes. It blocks rejoins regardless of slot size.
I was pro-spectate to the point where my vote was to treat the option to disallow it as if it were hltv in DoD, and this particular glitch as explained by Ashfire, forced me to change that stance in discussions on the matter.
