I'll be streaming Hawken tomorrow starting at my normal 2pm Eastern time.....with a special twist. I'll be starting a new account and playing for 4 hours straight. I'll be examining what new players feel about the game and the experience of a new player form an economic perspective. Additionally, I'll be talking (and fielding questions) about Reloaded and their actions regarding the in game and out of game economic future of Hawken, including the Hawken Coin and T-Shirt Contest. Finally, I will be using my experiences and the comments made in chat to form some questions for the next community Q&A.

 

Oh yeah, before yall freak out about "stomping with a smurf", I'll be giving myself various hilarious handicaps such as playing with 1 hand and playing in Europe in order to offset my mmr.

CHallenge 1: you can not use the mouse and the keyboard at the same time.

Challenge 2: turn your monitor upside down for extra challenge.

I fail to see how you can test economic progression, when your results will be tens of orders of magnitudes greater than the average player strictly because of your familiarity with the game scoring mechanics.  Also, what are you going to find out? that the games grindy as hell?? we already know that.

 

 

I honestly don't think you are capable of limiting yourself in such ways more than one or two games at most.  I think you'll start out fine and then once you feel how incredibly unsatisfying it is to play as an average player on the scoreboard, you'll result to your normal ways.  I hope that you prove me wrong, but I just don't see you being able to subdue your internal competitive drive for whatever reason.

 

Also, heres another few challenges:

 

Change all your keybindings. and disable things like boost and jump.

Use no internals and items on mechs.

Never self repair, disable C

Use your left hand to drive the mouse, and right hand for keyboard.  That one I'd really like to see you attempt, lol.

I believe there are a number of achievements that reward HC that are also performance based, so this may not be the case.

You actually will get hc faster because you will get achievements faster than a noob normally would. 

 

My suggestion to offset this is to subtract the hc you gain from achievements in your report. Then maybe analyze it in hindsight and figure out which achievements a noob is likely to get in 4 hours, and add that in.
