Playing on basicly the same system since '07, getting avg fps 25-40 on medium settings. Though I did upgrade my gpu last year to a r2 290x...it's like having it in a straight jacket and Vista isn't any help either.

Gotta love that 775 socket & X48 Gigabyte board, both are like a Timex and built like a tank.....New system planned for FY '16.

After bouncing from 1770 to 1800 back and forth I am now making steady progression. When the first couple of replies came in I was at 1770. Today I'm a t 1840. Regarding the amount of time I spent playing I'm really happy.

Besides all the useful stuff other players told you, I recommend you to play some other Arena FPS from time to time. Quake Live and new Unreal Tournament, which is in pre-alpha state at present, are great examples of such games and they're completely free to play. Of course Hawken will be your main game to play and improve, but playing various shooters will help you to understand this genre better in general and improve your basic skills. I've noticed for myself that even playing against nightmare bots in QL helps me to play better in Hawken, so I can aim and react on various situations much better.

The first 30 days or so that I played, I was around 1800.  When I switched to my controller in my left hand and mouse in my right hand setup, I moved up to 2100.

I stayed at around 2100 for a very long time.  At a point about a year ago, even though I could feel my skills improving... my MMR kept going slowly down and then sat at 1950 until about 3 months ago, where it just started tanking and has remained at 1800.  My playing and connection were fine.  I could only attribute it to constantly being beaten by lower level players who had a lower MMR, and who's call-signs I did not recognize.

After playing way more consciously and using hawken.heroku.app a lot more I came to the conclusion the the way to a higher MMR, which is not directly my goal, is to forget about it and just focus on the skillimprovement, without looking at MMR.

99% of for me three star rated games consists of a few 2300+ and a whole lot of below 1500 rated players. The outcome of the match is rarely balanced.

Also as I recongnize more and more playernames I have witness major screw ups by the matchmaker. Two consecutive games in a row with almost no fluctuation went so horribly wrong and it was foreseeable just by looking at the playernames.

Either I'm gonna learn from the 2300+ players and slowly advance, or I will have the chance to improve when the playerbase broadens.

For now I don't really have the option to quit every bad match or stay out of 2 or 1 star rated game considering how much time I'm willing to spend in Hawken.

Nearly every match I play is horribly unbalanced, it's usually me on one team with everyone in the server who isn't so good while everyone decent is on the other team

I can only carry so much :c

What's the big fuzzy bunnyng deal? Lots of amazing people have committed suicide, and they turned out alright.

It'll wrap just fine in plastic wrap. Once you have it wrapped like a log twirl it a few times to tighten down, the puff pastry will mold together. Toss in freezer for 20 mins, brush with butter and you're off to the races.

My main problem is keeping my crosshairs on the opposing mech while dueling, but playing against higher MMR players certainly helps if you pay attention to how they move around in the air and on the ground, as well as how they play each mech and what weapon combos they use for each mech playstyle.  This way you can adapt accordingly and go for the kind of fight their mech isn't built for.

Did you go into the controller options and remap it specifically?

in hawken or windows?

in hawken it does not work. I can remap them and the settings accept the remap, ingame however the stick is dead.

I found a couple of complains that the left tumbstick on the xbox controller stopped working in hawken after the release on steam.

The more I understand the game and the more I use hawken.heroku.app the more I realize how broken the match making is.

All week long 3 star rated servers consisted of one or two 2300+ players stomping everyone and the rest below 1500.

I played quite a lot recently and I had about 5 or 6 decent games in the last week where the game was balanced and the majority of players where at my MMR.

There is no chance to improve when the few players tear everything apart and the rest is still figuring out how to dodge.

On top of that the hit reg on the amsterdam servers is plain fuzzy bunny, everybody complains about it and yet there are twice the number of amsterdam severs populated than frankfurt.

I'm really sick of it.

Hmmm, weird. I've been having a lot of fairly balanced matches last few days. Lots of DAKKADAKKADAKKA and fun to be had. Similar though where you know 2 guys are the high end of the mmr but for some reason matches been very close, especially in siege. Maybe I'm getting lucky.

Yeah, I've been stuck at ~2000-2050 for awhile now, personally. I wasn't stuck at ~1800 for too long (I broke 1900 and 2000 after I joined a clan, actually; it works!).

But I can't seem to figure out how to get to 2100, and beyond. :wallbash:

I feel you there. I'm in the exact same boat, though, I fully acknowledge the main reason for that is because I refuse to git gud with burst mechs.

I think its a thing thats mostly happening around 1800 MMR. Might be even something that's only happening on EU servers.

I will confirm this - at least from all of my experience.  It has always been this way, it's not just the recent change to matchmaking.

It has to do with being so 'average'.  1800-2000 is right in the middle of the "Skill-Gap".

What you can sit and witness happening is that you join a server which either has a few high MMR or, more often, a few lower MMR players.  Just by joining, you have now either raised or lowered the SRD so that it is within range of players on either side of the gap.  And when a lower or a higher player within that range joins... BAM, they just opened it up to the people above or below them.

So, what I think is really "broken" (I don't like that word, because that's not really accurate) is that the matchmaking and balancer do not work for the people in the middle.  It's all geared to cater to the people on the high end and the low end - so that they can more easily find matches.  But by ignoring the middle-of-the-road players... well, it's just messed up.

Generally speaking 1800 to 2000 is matchmaking hell, as mentioned by puppet, you get dumped in either a high or low server, and swing the average enough for the other side to get in, and that usually results in fuzzy bunny, i still think the match maker should take the range or mode of mmr into account, to prevent this a little more.

i also find that depending on a team can really change your mmr, a team with no backup can really tank your mmr, but help as a player to a degree, because you learn how to take unfavorable odds.

Or they thought that the issue could most efficiently, effectively, and economically dealt with by trying to increase Hawken's population through hiring people to create new content.

Which is what they're doing.
