It seems things aren't as perky around here since over the Summer when there was a lot of buzz going around over the buyout. I'm curious what the devs are working on to try to get players back. I myself haven't played in a while.

Bad news. The devs have disappeared for almost the last week. Not a word in at least 5 days now to tickets or forums. :(

The devs have been completely silent as of late. They either have given up or are preparing for a big announcement (=unlikely). The game itself is in a horrible state, probably the worst it has ever been, with very few people playing and rampant hacking going on.

Can you update us on the proper time to wait before running around in circles?

 

Reloaded already made it clear they don't need our money to keep the servers running nor do we have the player base to keep the servers running financially anyway. The current player base is expendable.

I mean, yeah, but that has always been the case. It's a free to play game. Monetarily speaking if you're not a whale or a member of the high volume low impact disposable conveyor belt then you're just there to encourage the continued existence of the former groups.

By "a couple of weeks" you mean "a month and a half", right? They used to do these things called "weekly updates". While they haven't been weekly for ages, monthly is a little out of the ordinary. There's been multiple threads bringing up this topic with no response from the devs, so I think it's a natural response for the volume of dissent to increase until we get some context from them.

It's a bit different, when ADH was around they really couldn't afford to be silent or put off a patch for long periods of time because they had to rely on our money, it was only when they went bankrupt that they just said "**** it". Right now the player base has no bargaining chip because we can't even vote with our wallet (which only really amounts to whales but even during ADH times there was little incentive for whales to exist). Our amount of pull is basically the same as during the great silence, so wanting a little more communication isn't all that unreasonable during unpredictable times.

Of course there are not enough people playing to make Hawken profitable, thats not the point.  The more Hawken looks like a ghost town the more of a negative impact that has on Hawkens reputation for current and potential future players.  If casual players are under the impression the game is dead they are not going to invest in it, if veterans feel abandoned they will bail on the game.  And right now the only thing really engaging new players in the game is base community of veterans to help them along, if Hawken loses that it would be a pretty big blow.
 

Engaging on the forums with veterans and new fans alike is cheap maintenance for Hawkens reputation.  All they have to do is let us know what they are currently working on and drop us a juicy nugget of concept art or something (when they can of course).  Literately 5-20 mins out of someones work day 1-2 twice a week.

Month in gamedev is almost nothing. I suggest all the veteran pets to stop playing for a month or two and let that population grow a bit don't stomp it out everytime you don't get an answer from the devs :P

LOL, this is one of the longest running BETA games ever in existence. And Reloaded has been here a year now. They have money, lots of money to hire. (Actually they already have several dev teams. go google it) They are owned by a company that has crap loads of money. So development could have literally, easily and normally would have been implemented 10 or 11 months ago. And the ONLY thing that has been done is: change the virtual (As in not real, the game servers are actually a program on a computer that pretends to be a server. Each real computer runs about a dozen or more game servers, some put a lot more games on them.) servers from Amazon virtual servers to Cloud servers owned by the company that sort of owns them. Uh ok that is confusing, sorry.  They have increased the price of mechs and gear. Changed when you get some of the popular equipment till way later in XP unless you want to spend real cash. Added tons of stuff for sale. And now the servers lag like insanity, and hitscan is about as reliable as a heroin addict. And the servers do weird stuff, no need to list it all, many of you have been a victim of it. And the game still has zero anti-cheat, despite the fact they do NOT have to change the game code and there are many, many companies who ONLY make anti-cheat software. And I don't mean the old proprietary trash that screwed up your computer and didn't work. Real stuff that does. Stuff that catches the new (new as in the last 3 yrs or so.) directX overlays. (Which is what almost what all the ones used on Hawken are.) So other than that, yeah only a month sort of in development.

 

Notes of interest: Reloaded merged with K2Network. Reloaded buys up games going under and turns them to P2W games. ie: APB: Reloaded & Fallen Earth.

The company that owns them (OK owns is a VERY complex definition in this example) owns tons of "cloud servers" worldwide. FYI, Cloud Servers is a fancy name for virtual server, just LOTS of them. And it gets tricky to the ownership part. Reloaded is/was also K2 networks, and Skidrow is sort of part of Reloaded too. And then it really gets convoluted. Not even going any further, it would make your brain explode. So take care and have fun.
