Apparently 505 Games is publishing and they will be at E3 so we might see an announcement then.

 

If this is true then looks like we now know what the team has been up to. Can't say I'm surprised they are looking to expand the potential audience but I will be surprised if they are just porting Hawken over to consoles and not doing a new build. 

 

Be interesting to see how this plays out.

I mean, meh. If it expands the audience I'm all for it (except NOT YET. Finish the game first), but on the other hand that's probably where all the dev resources will be going.

This brings terrible flashbacks to a game called Blacklight Retribution.
Blacklight Retribution was originally on PC and then a PS4 counterpart was released. The PS4 build ended up getting ALL the new updates and content and maintained a respectable playerbase on there seeing as it was F2p and downloadable. The PC build was left in the dust and the playerbase slowly declined. Last year they updated the PC build all in one go, but it was a build that was optimised for PS4 and not PC. As a result, balance and performance was thrown off and the game can be considered a shell of its former self.

I am afraid that such a thing will happen with hawken: XBOX ver released, XBOX build gets more love, PC build left to die and forgotten, and if they decide to update the game after a long time of inactivity since the XBOX port, it will be a console port and will not be good.

I want to be wrong, though. I certainly hope this does not happen and that even reloaded have enough sense in their mind to prevent this. It is being published by another team so hopefully it will not. Hopefully.

Console ports usually don't share servers with PC players.

Maybe not, most games that are cross platform still segregate the users, so PC vs PC, Xbone vs Xbone, PS4 vs PS4.

I'll try to find some references, but I believe Microsoft wants PC/Xbox One cross platform titles, so this could be part of that push.  And if it is cross platform, it won't be "unfair" for keyboard/mouse to play against controller.  That should all be taken care of with MMR.  Players with controllers will just generally have lower MMRs than the PC population.  That still means the high MMR tiers could be underpopulated, but having the game under active (and public) development should provide enough of a boost there.

Demi, almost everyone has been around longer than you. Turd and I played on the same team in TPG season 2, as did Amid, Crafty, Silverfire, and Lunatic - 5 of the top 20 posters on this forum, and this isn't even the first iteration of the forums. Turd is Butt's shitty counterpart.

My apologies for not involving myself in most of the shitposting and non-information that goes on in these forums.  Thus, the 28 messages.  I really only like to chime in now and then I feel like there is something actually interesting to say.  I even debated whether i should respond here, but there you go.

Not to start a belittling back and forth, but you did start this by insinuating that due to Turd's low post count, whatever he says isn't valid - that's compounded by the fact that to the forums and community as a whole, you're still quite new.

 

I do mean that first clause though. This is a nice thread and I'd like to keep it that way.

Also you should go do some research on cross platform play, Microsoft and Sony are both quite interested and have recently made changes to their policies to allow this. Ever hear of Rocket League?

If this is true, and even 10% of the revenue they make as a result is appropriated to PC development, then we're still sitting waaaay better than we are now.

 

Not only that, but it stands to reason that there will be some population growth associated with PC-Hawken just due to the Hawken brand name getting out there. The population growth we experience may still be small, but fuzzy bunny, even getting 500 to 1000 more regular players would measurably change matchmaking for the better.

 

Could be cool.

Turd is legit and the hardest working member of the B-Team other than me, and a lot of my "work" was administrative crap. I won't let anyone gainsay his efforts and game knowledge. He came by it honestly.

 

By that initial logic since literally everyone else in this community has fewer posts than I do and that 95% of them cannot maintain a post-to-like ratio approaching mine, all their POVs are less legit than mine.

Unfortunately, that speaks more to Xployt's skill and dedication than to the viability of controller play vs keyboard & mouse. No one else, despite half a dozen attempts that I know offhand, manages that level of skill. When it comes to cross-platform, I find it very strange that Microsoft has forgotten their lessons from Halo 2. Then again, given that literally no one from that era remains with them, perhaps it's to be expected.

 

EDIT: GDI forgot my contribution to the initial discussion:

 

Whooooo, new players. Boooooo console. Hopefully they join the PC masterrace once Hawken gets its previously promised  64-bit upgrade. Ideally after some trickle of funds reach Reloaded they'll be able to get us new skins, maps, mechs... you know, those things we have been waiting with open wallets for.

Well, I think that if they release an Xbone version the PC side (if it was unchanged and not updated) would have a slight population boost based directly from exposure and advertisements.  There might be some Xbone players that might be inclined to also try it on PC too if they have access to a PC.  The question is will the account info be cross platform (meaning you keep all of your account stats and progress no matter whatever platform you are using) because if it isn't I don't see the normal player wasting time trying to level 2 different accounts on 2 different platforms for funzies.  

 

But really until theres something new for people to experience in Hawken, the PC side is just in wait and see mode.

 

I really hope they are able to update both platforms at the same time, meaning PC gets an update, and the Xbone side gets a port from that, and the two can operate and remain in sync in relation to future patches and content.  It really gets lame when a game has something brand new and it takes months for the Playstation, or Xbox side to get the update.

Still, of all FPSs, those using turn-speed caps are the most controller-friendly.

Us average keymouse-ers will wreck the average controller-er in Hawken, yeah; but the average CS:GO keymouse-er will......well I don't even want to mention what they would do to the average controller-user...*shudders*

Hell, if my computer let me us those xbox controllers at all you know I would be using it until I had it down. That's why I still play my G2s, they still provide a challenge for me. I've literally jumped through 20 hours worth of hoops spread over a year trying to get the drivers but none of the guides or support sites do it. Anyways.... I would be totally up for a console release so long as I can link my current account along with my probably nearing 50 some odd mechs by now. This would be the only incentive I will have ever had to buy an Xbox after being extremely disappointed with 90% of the games offered and the lack of social stimulation this ambiavert craves even when playing video games. Honestly, the only reason why I took to hawken so well looking back is Voip and making friends in the community. Back when I had my 360 live was too expensive for me but now I totally could afford it

Ever since I was introduced to Hawken, I found my biggest issues with competing(edit: as a controller user) was the framerate and the input lag. In my opinion, those main issues I faced would definitely be apparent for XB1 players if cross-play is involved. If I went back to 60 fps, I surmise I wouldn't break 2200mmr, much less reach it.

 

Uncapping the framerate reduced the input lag from 20ms to 6-8ms made quite the difference on my 550ti. Then, I upped the ante again by using a BenQ(in conjunction with upgrading to a 770 prior), utilizing the extra frames created by making more of them viewable, and reducing input lag even more. I remember a specific time before upgrading my monitor when I was trying so hard to finish off Xacius with the SS on Origin; as a Scout, he retreated off the top to get cover at one of the bottom ends, and no matter how hard I tried, I could not track his movement.

 

Upgrading to a Scuf controller allowed for better coordination over controls, which is a nice competitive touch towards playing against KB&M players. On a related note, it could be a great way for Microsoft to push their XB1 elite controllers.
