This is beautiful. You really have a gift for making these.
I love how this image gives a sense of scale and reminder how big even the smallest mechs of hawken actually are. I wish this sense of scale was better presented in the actual game as well.
These are really nice images.
Ah, I was gonna make a photoshop of my light mech crew, since I recently finished it.
I'm barely done though :S
You can see the first of my efforts in my Profile Icon, though
If you share a masked image, I'll make you something to be happy.
Oh, and I'm using GIMP :)

weekend work
I made my clan members digital signatures:
Csak a lehetetlent ri meg elrni, minden ms csak szrkesg.
Now this is not going to be anything fancy compared to the photoshop masters here but i wanted to give it a go, some really simple stuff here but i like the outcome:
I happen to use GIMP for my every image editing needs too.
I tried something -
It would probably look better if I chose a background that fits more with the quality of the mech cutout.
Is anybody willing to teach me in the ways of lighting effects?
Also, how would you be able to merge a mech into any special effects already present in the background photo?
(If I had placed the zerker further back and a little to the left I would have to deal with making it look like it was in the middle of or behind the fog/smoke, how would I achieve that effect like the one with the rocketeer engulfed in firework things?)
Lighting effect with the GIMP, you should speak about manual lighting because there is nothing to help you this way in the software (AFAIK).
But basically, when dealing with light, you have to pay attention to your source of light. In the background you've used, the sun seems to be behind the scene, on the right (red patches in clouds, reflection of light on metallic structures). It must be a sunset. Plus, there is an extra ambient light which keep the scene clear. So for me the direction of the shadow you've added is wrong, it would be really on the left (see the shadow of the plane at foreground left). Also, due to ambient light, the shadow should be lighter (then, more transparent). And since the mech is tall and the ambient light is due to multiple reflections, the border of your shadow should be blurred. I recommend you to use the aerograph tool to draw this shadow. The perspective shadow you've used is good to give you a guideline.
The lighting on the mech itself is important, and the model you used is lighted from different sources. I recommend also to shadow some parts that are unexposed, according to the scene's sources. You can do with the paint tool, with a blurred pen.
Also, colors should correspond between your mech and the background. It's sunset, then colors are more red. I would increase the blacks also. You can manage all of this with the curves tool (a bit complex at start, but very efficient when you know how it works).
Also, there is a problem of perspective with your mech. Look at the rust plane on the left, which is at the same hight as the top of your mech. It is aligned with the horizon line and you can't see neither its top, nor its bottom face. So, you shouldn't see the top of your mech. Yes, it's a difficult task to blend flawlessly objects in background because of perspective.
There is still the difference of style between the background which is painted and the mech which is 3D CG.With proper shadows and colors, this should help, I think. There are some tools in the GIMP to imitate painting (oil painting), but I'm not impressed at all... Other software do it better, but this is not the point. You could alternately repaint the mech above this one (on another layer, ofc), and then it will have the same style. But for that, a graphic tablet is mandatory.
For the mist/smoke effect, you have no choice but to add a smoke layer above the mech layer. I think you can use clouds picture as a basis, then turn the blue of the sky transparent through layer masks. You can try fractal noise also, but the GIMP's generator is not that convenient, I think. Then, use aerograph on the mask to make your smoke gradually disappear (do not stop it roughly, it's a smoke after all).
Hope all of this helps. Keep drawing/editing!
I found 2 minute editing, how much time I had it in the morning.

Thanks for the help, if I can somehow get a better angled shot of my mech I'll see if I can make a better version of it.
You did the job, Pocy, but you don't show the shadows =3 .
You can get a better angle of your mech in game, I think (win a fake match, by instance), or with the 3D models if you want to tweak a bit.

I used to eat at that cafe all the time. Its been a staple of the East Village. It never closed and was open everyday and night. After stmbling out of the night clubs I'd crawl there in the morning. Sadly its gone now :(
Very cool to find it here of all places lol

First and foremost, all this is by erathic and is available at http://www.erathic.com/hawken/He has made piles of Hawken content from wallpapers to maps to banners to logos. There are even some .gifs thrown in. It would take hours to look through all the totally awesome art.
I haven't seen erathic around recently but he deserves recognition for the HUGE amount of work he has put into fan art for Hawken. All of my electronic devices are Hawken themed courtesy of erathic. So without any further ado...
Where is Erathic? Anyone know?
