I made a smurf accout to see what all the hullabaloo was about. My first match i looked around and said to myself...

 

"These people are all NOOBS!"

 

I prefer the challange of playing with my peers or players who are better than me. The wise person learns more from failure than from sucess. I enjoy getting my butt kicked (sometimes). After that first match I abandoned the smurf account and never returned.

I party/join players of my regular mmr as a smurfing practice (a lot of practice).

I'm in it for the namechange/identity fun inherent in my typical online pc gaming experience.

I'm no bug squisher.

Other reasons include: anonymity, main account is just too fuzzy bunnyed up from so many drunken games, additional progression options, other stuff.

I've made smurfs because I used to not be able to join matches with my main for some time.  So there's one smurf.  

 

My 3 other smurfs, well one was to test the new player experience coming out of Ascension, haven't touched that smurf since. 2 other ones were for the IGN. They've risen to the 2k MMR range really fast so no worries? Maybe a half dozen unbalanced games, but that's in the past.  The other is for kicks and giggles for the name.  I blame Nept for me making my Not_Silverfire smurf.  I also enjoy the anonymity and trolling high MMR players.  Also to intentionally nerf myself against other players by having no internals and no items, sometimes I give myself a "no spacebar" rule, only primary weapon, only secondary weapon...etc.  Stuff that is just a pain in the ass to keep setting and rearranging on one account, thus my account(s) to set that stuff and not worry about it.

im not trashing on newbs. i was once a newb. newbs are an important part of a gaming community and i have much love and respect for them. all that being said, i don't want to PLAY with them. its no fun for me because it is too easy. it is no fun and probably a bit discouraging for them because i am too experienced for them. i was just kinda wondering if there was any other reason besides emotional vampirism that one would create a smurf account.
