This old mouse of mine that I've been using for years is finally starting to go out. What would you recommend as a solid, reliable mouse for around $20-$25?

$20-$25????

Nothing.

Be a man. Get a Logitech G600. It's seriously the best mouse on the market right now. Had mine for more than three years and no issues yet.

The G600 is $40 on amazon right now. Seems a bit high for a cheapskate like me, but maaaaybe I could do $40. Anything else for $40 or less? I don't really need all those programmable buttons.

I got the Roccat Kova +
Should be somewhere around $50.

I'm using it for almost 2 years now and never had a problem with it.
Before I used some really cheap ones (max. 10 bucks) and they broke quite quickly.

The Logitech G600 probably is a good choice, when you don't need that many buttons you can also get the G400s, I have got it for two years now, I never had any problem with it (except that the driver crashes rarely, but that's not a big problem to deal with). In general you cannot do that much wrong with Logitech.

G600 for MMO, G502 for everything else. G302, G402 and G500s are pretty decent as well if you prefer a cheaper option, I personally use a G500s (looking to get a G502 soon) and I've had no major complaints.

Get the TteSports Black Element. It's amazing. You're not really going to find a great mouse for $25.

I got the one with the awesome Thermaltake team Dragon that they don't make anymore.

This mouse is the gold standard of all time for
dependability. After wearing holes in the plastic below the
for and aft thumb buttons from nearly a decade of frantic
mayhem and what must have been thousands of hours and
kagillions of clicks, I retired it to storage. It remains a
sentimental object of nostalgia in perfect working order.
It's funny, they offer a 1 year parts and labor warranty; I
wonder if it's ever been used.

How desperate are you? If you're willing to wait, I can ship you my Hawken mouse from the Private Server dealy, whenever that gets here. It's a Logitech G400S I believe.

Monoprice makes a few good mice. This one is an updated version of the one I have, and I love it. http://www.monoprice...&seq=1&format=2

Don't let the low price fool you - it's a great mouse. Once I was running down the street and it flew out my backpack (don't ask), but it was fine, with only a single scratch on it. Very good weight and shape for someone with an average hand size.

I remember a bunch of nerds recommended me this mouse back when I used to play CS. It's too simple looking for my taste, I need flashing lights and cool symbols, but it's a great mouse nonetheless.

Gimme that. I can give you money.

On topic: I have this thing called The inferno by Cooler Master. i like it a lot and it has all the bells & whistles you can possibly think of, way more features than i could ever imagine needing. Only thing it lacks imo is a third thumb button but that i can live without.

The Razer Abyssus is cheap and actually pretty solid for a promlg360gamerz brand like Razer. There's only 2 buttons and a wheel, nothing too fancy, works well and is not huge.

edit: Oh and it has 3 dpi settings (hardware switch to change them) and some refresh rate settings.

I still use Microsoft Intellimouse for years but the sensor on it seems to be on its way out. Need a new mouse D: (unless I could fix it otherwise I'd be with this mouse to end days)

Oh and Amid I'd buy that mouse off of you.

Just to note, teams that have Razer sponsorships often replace the sensor and upload different firmware to their mice.

for 20-25 you might be able to snipe a refurb razer mouse off a site like woot. deathadder probably best for tracking at that range.

if you're willing to increase your budget, i'm very happy with my steelseries rival. good clicky mousewheel for mlg quickscopes, two side keys so you can alt map airburst for pred, and good shape for claw/fingertip.

Is it better than Sensei?

I actually bought the SS Rival a few weeks back and I'm loving the performance. I preferred it more than the Sensei simply because the Rival ergonomics is catered to right hand users whereas the Sensei is meant for all hand types, and thus, I feel as though it never had that perfect fit for me. The Rival also uses an optic sensor vs. the laser in the sensei, and from the research I've done and just from experience I tend to prefer the optic lasers.

You are talking about the super overpriced brand called Razer i suppose ? =)

Yeah haha my computer-savvy brother bought like all his peripheral stuff from that brand not that long ago and most of it broke/got dysfunctional very fast. It was extremely overpriced too and i think that brand is horrible. Like the Apple of gaming stuff.

See, I hear a lot of crap about Razer. I have never heard anyone complain about Razer that ever complained to their customer service department about a valid peripheral issue who didn't get a new version of it for free.

[WALL OF TEXT WARNING, READ IF INTERESTED]

The problem i see with that is the fact that the majority of people who buy stuff from said brand (not just Razer, take any similar over-glorified mainstream brand for example, (Beats by dr. Dre, anyone ?)) Are not the smartest or most well-informed about these things and they don't care to be. These people are mostly rich and they pay for the expensive stuff because they believe it is expensive because it's top-notch quality-wise, which is not necessarily true at all. What they actually do is pay for the pretty logo and the brand-name on their product because everyone else does it. ''Unless you're poor, lol, but f*ck those people.'' And these brands still get succesful and are able to keep doing this just because the majority of people are stupid.

So yeah i can only guess here but i would dare to say that more often than not, when their pretty Razer-product breaks it's way easier to just pay for a new one than go through the effort of something as complicated as customer-support, because hey, money talks brahh.

For an extreme example of my point here, take Apple products. Absolute overpriced bulls*it but they got a worshipping, cult-like customer base of mindless drones who will pay anything to own the latest Apple-product.

I play pc shooters like it's a job, averaging 80 hour weeks over many years.

I've the better part of 3,000 hours in Competetive Day of Defeat, the same in minecraft, 1,500 in Hawken and pushing 600 in ranked cs:go.

Spoiler

Spoiler

I'm no casual and my mouse and key suffers years of what can reasonably be considered extreme wear and tear.

I've been doing it on a razer naga and a razer black widow ultimate for more than 5 years.

To be fair I have destroyed 2 razer lachesis mice (well after the 2 year warranty period expired), and I returned a razer lycosa keyboard after 2 weeks because I didn't like the feel of it.

I've also destroyed a rat 7 in a few days in a couple of ways

1. wore out a thumb button using ptt

2. simply crushed the adjustable thumbside extension (it's made for the weak hands of children, not for a grownass man)

I've also retired 3 logitech m510 mice and one logitech k350 keyboard after years of good and thorough use. I've destroyed 2 logitech wingman sticks.

Over these many years I have found that the quality, durability, and even parts sources of all of these products is comparable, in some cases interchangeable, and international standard conforming.

I'm no fanboy, but I'm also not about to put a calvinpissing sticker on the back of my pickup truck because I happen to drive a razer/logitech/whatever these last few years or so.

I could say the same thing for intel/amd, or nvidia/ati, ford/chevy/dodge, articcat/skidoo/polaris, harley/everyoneelse, whatever, etc.

I've been a rabid consumer of pc gaming peripherals for longer than many have been wiping their own rear end, and being branded by some corporation makes as little sense to me as irrational brand hate.

Perhaps I'm in the minority of typical  razer brand or logitech brand of peripheral users, with my years of actual experience.

But I find that sort of brandloyal/brandhate thing fickle and spurious.

It's nonsense.

The truth is, that in electronics;

They are all manufactured in the same 4 regions in china.

Sorry to cut you off so dramatically here, You make a ton of great points and this is what makes the difference as far as i'm concerned, you care for the brand because you have tested and been satisfied with it through your own experiences and using your own brain to make the decisions instead of some bandwagoner kinda thing who just gets whatever sucks up the most money to get.  :wallbash:

I don't hate the brand just because, i dislike it for the reasons that i stated because i believe they are true. I'm not saying this is the ultimate truth either.

I also apologize if i came off as too harsh or offending, not my real intention there it's just my personal opinion mixed with some pretty strong brainwashing i've been enjoying as long as computers have belonged in my life..

I've been heavily using the same Razer Deathadder (that even had two previous owners who had it for 2-3 years total) for like five years now, and all I've had to do is replace the mouse feet on a few occasions. It still works perfectly and suits my needs well, so I'm not planning on upgrading until it finally dies or starts to have tracking issues. You can probably pick one up for close to your budget on ebay, especially if you aren't opposed to buying refurbished or lightly used.

Aesthetics and build quality are perfectly valid things to take into consideration when you're buying products tho. There are a lot of different reasons people choose what they do, and with e.g. Beats, wanting them as a fashion accessory as well as headphones is understandable. Personally I don't like either brand, but unless someone is asking me for advice, what people buy doesn't concern me.

The reason made that statement about Razer is that I came into some cash a few years back and paid out for a full set of Razer Products. I had the Megladon 7.1 headset, the Lycosa Keyboard, the Nostromo Game Pad and the Imperator mouse. I must have paid about 300+ in total.

The Megladon lasted about 12 months for it's 120 price tag and failed about a week out of warranty. Support just suggested updating the firmware but this did not solve the issue. It just intermittently flashed its pretty blue lights and died.

The Lycosa shift key began to fail after about 3 months. The shop refused to take it back as they said it was misuse. Razer offered to repair it but would not replace it and it would have t be away for up to three months.

The left mouse button on the Imperator was sticky and then failed completely. Again just a couple of weeks out of warranty. No come back at all on that one.

The Nostromo game pad began to, well, corrode and the thumb button began to stick too. The plastic keys became ruff and faded. The thing with this is that they were not made by Razer. They used to be made buy Belkin so the return policy on these was non existent as both parties refused to take them back.

So, yes, I would never buy another Razer product. I have no Brand Loyalty or Brand Hate but I must advise people not to buy Razer. Kids flock to them because they look so cool but underneath they are just not worth the price tag and if you are outside the USA then support is non existent.

I know own Logitech kit and in a year and a half I have had no issues whatever. Sure it's not as pretty but it works and keeps on working. I am 39 years old and have been gaming since about 1985. I am not a noob that's blindly following the crowd here. I speak from experience and my experience with buying and owning a full set of Razer products was poor at best.

My advice when it comes to headphones is buy them from a headphone company.

I've picked up razer headsets off the shelf and chuckled as I placed it back for someone else to buy.

I would not recommend the lycosa keyboard, it's simply an entry-tier rubber board that lights up.

I returned mine for refund when it became obvious to me what it was.

As for the imperator mouse, razer has had a 2 year warranty on all their mice for as long as I've been paying attention, even the cheaper-made ones like the imperator. But I also have had 2 lachesis mouse fail right after the 2 year mark, I know how that feels.

And as far as the nostromo gamepad goes, brother those things remind me of the nintendo power glove, but Tickle swears by his orbweaver.

Thumb button elitist.

Somewhere between gimmick and utility that thing exists and logitech offers something like it

And it's on them to make the best of every contact customers have with support.

When each of my lachesis' failed, I too contacted their support.

I too was given the firmware update/revert reacharound to no avail.

You fix one customer problem they tell a friend.

You piss off a customer with a problem they tell everyone they ever meet. That's the way of the world.

As a brand they definitely share the fashion/marketing angle that apple and beats also charge a premium for.
That's extra money for a commodity that has no practical substance.

I initially considered them because they were black and green, and suited my mood.

But if you're looking for a $25 mouse, you are in the market for a ms intellimouse explorer and it will last and last and last.

It will be worth every penny and then some.

Any love for the CM Storm Spawn? The grip and thumb buttons on this thing are perfect for me.

The G13 is my favorite. I have the joystick emulate XInput sometimes. If you find another pad that supports scripting and has an LCD, there might be some competition on my desk.

Pubstomping is a whole different strategic discussion, however, and usually just becomes an exploration of the ethics of dumpstering randos.

I have been using this for a long time now. For under 15 bucks is perfect and even performs better than other more expensive mice that can be found around here in SA.

I agree with a lot of what you say Crafty and yeh I am a little bitter on the whole Razer thing I guess. Justifiably so however. On the headphones thing, I am a musician so I can know good headphones for the studio but that's exactly where they stay. For PC gaming, I like a headset.

I have the G13 and I fuzzy love it. It's a lot more comfortable than the Nostromo was. I think it helps with immersion in HAWKEN too. I like a little space between my right and left hand like twin joysticks I guess? My other stuff is the G510s KB and the G500s mouse with the wireless G930 headset. I am a happier fuzzy bunny nowadays for sure.

MS Intellimouse Explorer master race. It'll survive a nuclear apocalypse and then still be useable for the next MLG player to rise from the ashes of radioactive rubble.
