Since last week, my Logitech G400 occasionally produces strange dropouts for fractions of seconds while playing Hawken.

The 'USB device detached' and then the 'USB device attached' sound is played. Sometimes the mouse completely stops working and a reboot is needed.

I have Win8.1 Pro, the mouse driver is Logitech v8.57.0.0. I have 3 other mice listed in the device manager, 2x HID-compatible mice and 1x ThinkPad ultra nav pointing device.

The problem occurs regardless of which USB port I plug the mouse in. I have no expereince about how it works with other games, since I play only Hawken.

My rig is Lenovo T430 8Gb RAM with GeForce GTX480 external video card.

Any hints are welcome.

Known issue, the mouse wiring is crap. If you wiggle it near where it connects to the mouse you'll probably hear the hardware connection sound.

Thanks, Amid.

I try to locate the fault in the wire. I don't want to dispose this mouse of yet.

Same thing happened to my logitech G9.  Found a video walkthrough of the fix, alongside replacement parts:

Probably a similar thing for the G400.

*Edit: The short typically occurs where the cord connects to the mouse.

Thanks for the video, Nept. I'll give it a try as soon as I'll have time. In the meantime, I get a cheap stand by mouse. I may grab a Sharkoon M20 or a Gigabyte M6900 V2.

After having disassembled the mouse I discovered an utter horror inside. I bought the mouse as 'used but in perfect condition' but I just found out that it was repaired and in an awful way. After some resoldering it works. I cut from the cable and made it perfectly immobile inside the mouse. Testing will follow.
