You are actually celebrating this "update" report... if I wrote up a progress report like this in my line of work I would probably get a written warning for wasting time on a load of nothing... this update has no substance, no "update", it is literally a bunch of words in a sequence that lead to nothing, no final point, no definitive date, no tangible information yet you lot are acting like they've just released a major patch... I've said it before and I'll say it again, they are going to keep stringing you along, feeding you just enough boolshat to keep you posting and slapping Internet peenz, but don't kid yourself into thinking this is an "update" this is tautology at its finest, their is a reason they don't post this kind of report every week because sooner or later even the dumbest of you will start to realise that thsee are just empty posts.

"Hey we don't have anything for you" is better than nothing. Am I pleased about that being the case? Obviously not, but it is good to have some communication from the devs.

And at the end of the day, I still believe that there are good things coming within the year. Given reloaded's incompetence at communication I can understand why many of you have lost faith, but I still believe that we need to hold on a bit longer. I'm all for giving them a hard time in order to keep them honest though.

It's good to see that the game is still getting attention.

To those of you that want to complain about the game getting attention; you should focus your pursuits on something a bit more constructive.

At this point most of us are just like crack addicts. Our fix has gone stale a long time ago and we're worshiping the pimp (he even has one of those fancy hats!) that subtly give us hints of a new fix. We just do our bidding and keep say it could be worse and we're actually quite happy here. Occasionally there a hawken-naive noob stumbles across the forums and tries to make an intervention, which always end up in blood after we lash out violently. And the pimp just keeps smiling.

 

Seriously, I'm really happy for the communication, keep it up! (sob sob...)

He's only leveled a few of his half dozen mechs.

Kid doesn't realize there's built in dev updates for him because he has barely played the game yet.

He should be excited for all that untapped new content he's sitting on.

On a slightly related note, another good free to play shooter is shutting down.

 

Nosgoth had a lot going for it. A good game (go ahead if you don't think it is, it held my interest for several months and a few hundred hours when Hawken got stagnant), with Psyonix and Square Enix behind them. The game had lots of communication from devs, new maps, new units, balance tweaks, updates, league play (ESL), a larger player base than Hawken, replay demo recording (same tech used later in rocket league), yeah a lot of f2p BS but the game balance was there a lot of the time and it wasn't p2w.

 

They still pulled the plug, it's done at the end of May.

 

I mention Nosgoth because after hearing that sad announcement I still can't believe Hawken is still going. I have no idea what their burn rate is or how the playerbase or other unknown investors could possibly support it. I mean Crafty has only so many accounts full of MC. We should all thank guys like him for helping to keep the lights on.

 

It's really amazing that this game is still going despite no changes since G2-Raider (aside -- perfect mech created = game finished), while other games with way more support die a painful death.

 

Sure I have hope that the backend improves to make the game more stable, and maybe some day we'll see some new things, but you gotta wonder how long we have. Might as well play while it's still going and stop waiting for fuzzy bunny to happen.

Nosgoth was a weird one. Something just very wrong with it's design. It looks good on paper but it's just too fast too messy and hard to enjoy from the start and playing hunter in l4d is still a better choise.

if you gave the g2 raider, like, an eoc-repeater, that'd be enough for me, and possibly even other lurking players, to resume playing the game.

Nobody wants to give one of the hardest-hitting mechs in the game even more burst, so yes.

I actually support your suggestion of making the best mech in the game even better, but the t-bolt meshes better with the heavier mech than it does with the raider. The EOC Repeater, while viable on the Raider, I don't think would work on a less mobile heavy mech. Just look at the EOC Rocketeer, it's one of, if not the least viable mech in the game, even though it can be a lot of fun.

I honestly believe the G2 mechs work best with the weapons they have. Sure, the T-32 Bolt has a few issues with spread but that's a problem with the weapon, not the mechs that use it. The G2 mechs are very niche mechs. The G2 Raider has amazing burst and the G2 Assault has a ton of sustained damage. Even though the EOCR and the Mini-flak would fall under the same role, they wouldn't work as well as they do now. The EOC Repeater is not designed to be a close range weapon. It deals too much self-damage for that. It can add significant mid-range burst to an already heavily close-range oriented mech. It would be too powerful, given the sheer damage of the KLA-XT. Also, you'd be absolutely doomed in a sustained fight, as the EOC has a terrible re-fire for a primary(like the breacher). Most weapons in the game, I believe, do not work as well as the T-32 for the G2 Raider. It has the perfect balance of sustained and burst damage to get those devastating bursts of damage while also holding off against weapons like the SMC. 

      The G2 Assault with dual Mini-Flaks would be a mixed bag. The dps of the mini-flak is fairly good, but without modification like the Vulcan XT, it would heat up insanely fast. As far as I'm sure, the Vulcan XT has decreased damage and heat generation compared with the normal Vulcan, so something like that would be needed to balance it out. Also, given the fact that the Mini-flak is a shotgun, you'd be missing a good chunk of your dps even a little ways away from your target. With the Vulcan, it's a lot easier to land your Vulcans and maximize the damage you can put out, even at longer range (but damage falloff and spread really start to be felt around there). However, dual Mini-flaks would most likely shred enemies at close range. 

 

Also, the G2 Raider isn't the best mech in the game, that's the Assault.

Both G2 really need some polish.

 

G2A needs a slight DPS increase at the cost of a HPS increase (while firing with both weapons) to be efficient but balanced.

 

G2R needs some luv' the ability should not make the mech appear on radar and beside that I find that allowing to boost while blitzwalking is kinda weird and lead the G2R to be hard at start without true purpose. In addition I think that it's boost speed should be increase or it's HP to be buffed or something.... or give the turkey a breacher

It's not as straightforward as releasing server files in order to allow the game to keep running. Nosgoth's online service is tightly interwoven into the game. Logging in, accessing your progress and unlocks(both in the menu and in-game), being able to matchmaking, creating parties/chat, anti-cheat etc etc etc, all require a number of online-services to be running. These services need to be maintained and kept up to date, which requires a development team constantly working on the game.

That would require a lot of work from what I understand. The Storm service basically handles all the myriad online services that Hawken relies on to run and simplifying all of that into a single client is probably even more work than porting the entire thing to UE4. You're not just porting a given set of code, you would have to write brand new modules to handle matchmaking, server finding, server hosting, friends lists, not to mention net code...

 

Given Reloaded's history, I don't think this kind of effort is something they would pursue. And even if they did, I think the cost would probably be closer to $50. And so long as we're wishlisting - to keep the community happy, making it an open IP, allowing for free development of new mechs, camos, parts, etc.

Not everyone enjoys all mechs. I can't stand C-class mechs or the tech. Also some people left not because of lack of content, but because of the high number of aimbots/speed hacks in an already tiny player base.

There's never been all that many hackers. There was the couple weeks when Runa was spamming alts, but other than that it really isn't all that prevalent. And bans have been handed out for hacks given proper evidence.

Whether it was one person on alts or a bunch isn't the point. My last Hawken login according to steam is 1/23/2016. I stopped playing because every game I would join a hacker would pop up and gloat while using speed hacks/aim bot. I very rarely had the luxury of selecting a room due to my mmr. So I would often be put into the hackers room.

 

Maybe you got lucky and didn't encounter any, but I sure did. I hope the hackers got banned, but if it was one person on alts I'm sure they have no problem making more alts. The game needs to be patched.
