Contrary to popular belief, or maybe it's worry, I'm still here.  We're all still here.  Hawken is still here.  And quite a bit of progress is still being made every day.

 

We just still can't talk about it :)

 

Is it cool, like a Fight Club kind of "don't talk about it"?  yup.

 

Now on to all the fun with all the datas!

 

In short, there was an unfortunate deployment about a month ago that threw a lot of thing out whack.  Some temporary data loss even crept in.  <Queue the scary music used for when the scary nocturnal Illal carnivores come around>  During the process of fixing all this, a separate issue jumped in and added a bit more complication.  Imagine when a stray TOW rocket happens across your mech in mid-repair.  It's not catastrophic, since most everything is in the process of being fixed, but it's certainly been anything but convenient.

 

The goal from here going forward is to first prop up the data layer with some extra love and attention.  Then we're going to continue turning toward more polish and performance.  Then we're going to start seeding the world with some good bits of new Hawken love - this is when things start to get happier.  Then we're going to head into what some in the industry have fondly described as "launch season", that wonderful time of year when a game gets to show off how much its been training in the off-season.

 

I will leave you to ponder the wonder that is Hawken, and of course to reply with pithy giphy posts, because if we're all honest, those have a high rate of enjoyment.

is there an estimated date of which this will all be done by? a specific month to look forward too maybe?  a small bit of honest info would be nice, some of us do advertise the game the best we can to gain some community but what can we tell them for those that join when we don't know anything ourselves.

Because you, a fairly unknown community presence, are so significant to think that the producer of the game decided to make a post in response to YOUR thread alone after it was deleted.  I wish I was that important too.

There's a difference between censoring someone's free speech and deleting a post that offered no value to the overall community, exposed no new or valid information, proposed silly unsubstantiated points,

and served to aggravate both the community and the developers, as evidenced by the responses I remember from that thread. Also, it was akin to a goodbye thread, which are not allowed on the forums, per forum rules, 1B.  Like if I were a dev with powers on the forums, I would delete this thread, for example, because it offers nothing to the community while masquerading as something important floating around in the general discussion forum section.

 

And how dare you say you were Hawken's biggest fan! That's MY title.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but it certainly WAS my thread that spurred the developers to update.
Sometimes you need to speak out if you want results. 500+ views regarding my thread, and the huge mass of replies all in one day cannot be ignored.

Calling it a "goodbye thread" is absolutely silly. It was nothing more than intense criticism for good reason. Don't forget that before my thread, we had months of silence, filled with doubt and turmoil.

I am one of those people who paid real money back in the day because I wanted to support the developers, so I had money at stake as well.
Not to say that is the reason for my vexatious tiff. I simply found their silence and ignorance of us, the fans, to be unbearable.

I want nothing more than to play fun games programmed by friendly developers that make me feel like I'm not just a customer that they want money from.

Anyways, my thread had a huge invitation for an apology, with the acceptance that if they did so, I would most certainly be pleased and once more become a fan of Hawken.
I'm not the sort to complain without having a section in my criticism to allow for forgiveness and further friendship and association.

Months of silence are honestly really hard to tolerate. Few months back, the devs were very communicative and I thought "hey, it's going the right direction" and decided to buy nemesis bundle, to show support. Suddenly, from that moment, it's been very quiet and now we are once more being fed with another "worth the wait", while the "technical debt" apparently began to surface.

 

Maybe I'll log in just to see if the EU servers are still crap.

You are deluded and suffering from confirmation bias over a coincidence. Your cry of lawyers doesn't even support your hypothesis - how long do you think it would have taken this shadowy team of legal ninjas to sign off on this post? Spoiler: about a week, if memory serves about those bureaucratc processes. 

 

harmless_kittens threads generate three times as much views, posts, content and actually useful discussion when he posts about his and his sons trials in Hawken.  But you wouldn't know that, because you are a crying no-name with delusions of grandeur. Seriously, I can assure you that despite the fact that I haven't read it, DemitronPrime's #imthirstybecausehawkenisdead thread is of more relevance to the community and developers than your joke because he made an effort to engage with us and made a poor if substantive efforts at contributing to the game and community before complaining. I don't like the dude, but he was on TeamSpeak just last night. Playing.

I'd be less worried if you guys had patched the client with a new cosmetic model (or even a holotaunt sprite) by now. Something "simple" just to get the ball rolling. Though I'll probably still be fretting up until we get a new map since that's what will bring back players.

 

Oh and dorobo, what movie is that from?

For real. Only the most sycophantic and naive still have any faith that the "devs"  are going to actually do anything. Probably the same type who believe in Santa until they are 12. Know what I think is going to happen? Second Dark Age, that's what.

 

How long has it been? 2 years? Not one new map, mech, nothing. No site update, no patch, the game still says "Adhesive" when you load it up. That's all you really need to know. The update could have just said "NOTHING NEW. KEEP WAITING, THANKS. OH YEAH, BUY MC." Dev Updates went from being weekly to monthly to...random.

 

Reloaded apologists and joshophiles please spare us the hurrs and durrs. Yeah we get it, we don't understand what it takes to run a game, or to code it, or to run a business, and producing nothing for years at a time is normal and to be expected. Companies that make promises for years on end deserve our undying support. Reloaded is doing everything perfectly and any criticism merely shows how impatient and ignorant its detractors are.

 

Again, the lack of any kind of tangible results over this long of a time-span should tell the dwindling playerbase all that it needs to know. Adhesive created the game in less time than it's taken Reloaded to produce...a bunch of backend stuff that we can't see, and which some would say does not improve the game. (WTB Hit Reg, anyone? Teleport much lately?) We keep hearing about data and coding disasters, server problems, and on and on. Do you have a time-frame for getting that together?

 

Look at the FB comments on the announcement. Everyone saying they would return if there was new content. What's Reloaded's answer? Uh we can't talk about it but it's gonna be cool, just wait, we're hard at work not releasing new maps or mechs, so just hang in there guise!

we've seen many more than 30+ replies and 500+ views in regards to this subject matter. we've seen more deleted threads in this vein than you have posts, and while on the subject of censorship, i would remind you that yours are likely being manually approved right now.

 

that is what you are lacking here: context. that is why you are receiving some modicum of backlash for your posts; it's not a matter of you having some kind of misplaced passion, it's a matter of you coming across as inconceivably self-important while not realizing that you are literally just another specimen on slide here.

I already know they can update the game items list server side. They only have a limited supply of unused assets though. Patching the client means they have an artist who can make new content.

Irregularity beside, not sure if their PR department is aware what their output reads like. I often have to report to customers about the status of current projects. If this was about a work-related project I'm involved in, I'd interpret it as follows:

They would be allowed to talk about "it" if "it" was a thing of certainty that would attract more players/spending and improve gross margins. This implies there's nothing positive or definite to talk about.

They're still working on transferring data between servers/databases, loadbalancing, latency, etc.? Many hosting platforms (Azure, AWS, etc. etc.) offer this as-a-service, why spend months of work on something that you could just license from a large variety of offerings and not instead work on the product you're actually trying to sell?

 

Then we're going to continue turning toward more polish and performance.  

 

They don't have the resources to work on the actual code right now.

 

Then we're going to start seeding the world with some good bits of new Hawken love [...]. Then we're going to head into [...] "launch season", [...] when a game gets to show off how much its been training in the off-season.

 

A client patch will be available at the earliest after several steps that don't have definite deadlines. Not only one step, several.

 

 

If I were to write such an announcement to my customers, I'd get my ass kicked by my boss, and rightfully so. I'm aware that this is only about a free-to-play vidyogaem, but for Reloaded it's supposedly an important product/service. I wouldn't care if HAWKEN wasn't such a great game, and I'm sad to see it wither away.

Even though it will never happen that way, I wish for Reloaded, when they finally decide that HAWKEN costs them more than it yields, to release the code as free-as-in-freedom-software for the community to pick up and develop further instead of letting it die permanently in proprietary lockdown.
