Well it looks like it's going to be quite expensive to be a private server beta tester.
I had expected Re-loaded to make their money from content in the short term, and leave private servers alone until later.
But as that's not the case there are 2 important questions to ask.
Do we need a private server ? <<<< probably should read Do we want one, we don't need one to function.
And if we do, then how are we as a clan going to pay for it ?
The Pro's of a Private server are clear.......
control on map and game selection, (always extremely useful)
ability to quickly pick teams manually for better balance, (we haven't used this feature in KDR yet, but used it successfully in TAW)
and options for fun customisation EG: friendly fire and no radar.
Also option of 1on1 training in a locked server.
On that subject I am assuming that a "paid for" server will be password protected for clan use only.
Which brings us to the money, which could be is always a tricky one.
Here is my standpoint for whatever its worth.
I am more than happy to contribute to the upkeep of the Teamspeak channel. I use it relatively allot, for more than just Hawken.
I am not particularly happy to contribute to a Private server that I am unlikely to use outside of Sundays (and if we only have 1 then maybe not even then).
I am totally happy to contribute to a private server(s) as part of a clan funded subscription mechanic if that's what people want to do. I think everyone has bought MC at some point, this is no different really.
At that point mandatory subs would likely need to be a part of membership, voluntary donations never work. That is a major step-change though.
I am 100% against the idea of Pastorius funding this on his own. - If that's the situation then FuzzyBunny the private server. - DON'T do it Pasta please.
If you made it to the end of this usual Goat wall of text, then a big MMMEEEHHHHH !! to you.
These are my thoughts that I have posted to create discussion, they are certainly not KDR policy, Pastorius is in charge here those, and decisions are his to make.
